A True Delight...

  • 5 of 5

A truly beautiful setting just 10 minutes stroll to the delightful village of Inistioge.

(Please update your photos as they do not do justice to the cottage particularly the downstairs bedroom.)

Mark & Margaret were perfect hosts, we loved the chickens and cats coming to visit.

The house is clean and tidy but could do with more crockery items, pots and pans, cutlery, roasting tins etc. The sofa's need to be replaced as the leather one is uncomfortable as is the pew! The tennis court needs to be available to use anytime as is advertised.

Also freeview or Sky would be a good idea as only 3 channels on the TV although Mark did very kindly allow us to raid his vast DVD collection.

All in all a lovely place and I would highly recommend this cottage to everyone.

The 3 pubs are all very welcoming, take trips into nearby Thomastown, New Ross and Kilkenny and the walk to Woodstock in the village is an absolute must, you could really spend all day there.

Definitely a 5* rating with a few tweaks here and there

Owner's Response: Thank you for your positive review of our Coach House. We take note of your comments regarding the kitchen utensils and will reappraise the quantity required. We have already replaced the pew couch with a softer one but have retained the leather as some people prefer a firmer couch. As regards the grass/lawn tennis court it is really only available to be played on during the Summer ( i.e. May to September).Playing outside these times can cause damage to the new grass growth and the ground as it is neither firm nor dry enough. We do indeed need to update our photographs as every year we steadily improve both the property and the gardens. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your recommendations, and look forward to your return.

Irish Countryside At Its Best - Lovely Coach House

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking to experience a small village in the Irish countryside this is it. Nestled in the hillside with views of the River Nore and the quaint village of Inistioge is Mark and Margaret's restored Coach House. We loved everything about our stay here from building fires in the wood stove to feeding the chickens and duck to watching videos from Mark's extensive collection. (Don't be shy, Mark and Margaret are happy to accomodate). We enjoyed the historical walk through Inistioge (map in the Coach House) and walking up to Woodstock Gardens on Easter Sunday. The little market in town had all the supplies we needed. From tihe Coach House we were able to travel easily to Kilkenny Castle, Waterford and Cork..It is also an easy drive back to Dublin Airport about 1 hour 20 minutes.Stay here you won't regret it. You will create memories that will last a lifetime, like we did.

Felt right at home

  • 5 of 5

The description did not do this place justice; it was nicer than we could have imagined. The owners, Maggie and Mark were warm and welcoming and very helpful to us in planning our day trips. What a wonderful way to experience Ireland! The Coach House was quaint, very clean and very comfortable. When we left at the end of the week, we felt as if we were leaving home. If given the opportunity, would love to stay there again. Plenty to do in the nearby towns and villages, and easy driving to further distances. The cold and damp weather didn't dampen our experience at all. Marty Brennan, Dearborn, Michigan

Charming Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We (2 adults and a 4 year old) spent 2 wonderful nights here. Our host Mark and Margaret were wonderful. They were so welcoming. Our daughter had so much fun feeding the ducks and hens!

The cottage had all the facilities that we needed. The location was perfect to visit Kilkenny. Loved the fire place and we had excess to endless supply of wood. Mark even recommended and loaned us some amazing DVDs. What more could we ask for!

This is a cottage that we would love to visit again in the near future and we would recommend anyone visiting Kilkenny.

Thank you Mark and Margaret for your lovely hospitality and letting have a chance to stay in your charming and cozy cottage!

St Columb's Coach House: Our dream...

  • 5 of 5

Our family occupied the Coach House for 15 amazing nights from 3 to 18 October 2011. The house and the location could not have been more perfect (not to mention…the neighbors) for what we were after on this holiday. We wanted the coziness of a rustic cottage (with all of the basic amenities, of course) and the tranquility of a rural environment yet within a very reasonable driving distance to Kilkenny.

The house itself offered 2 huge bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (1 each per level). My wife and I found the bed’s to be extremely comfortable and slept oh so well. Was it the beds, or were we were just that relaxed? Who knows? It’s advertised as being capable of sleeping 5, but could easily sleep many more (I’m sure the owner’s (Margaret and Mark) daughters’ friends could vouch for that…hahaha). The wood stove was a fantastic feature with an endless supply of wood provided in a shed out back. The house was well equipped with all of the kitchen essentials (everything you need to cook up a full Irish breakfast, a big vat of lamb stew, or a shepherd’s pie….all of which we did). An endless supply of maps, books, and even toys for the wee ones were provided. Our daughter, 2 years old at the time, loved it! By the way, Mark….Margaret….I’m sorry to tell you, but I believe we (I won’t mention any names specifically) have smuggled a little toy dog of yours back to the states. Many o’ nights were enjoyed out front from a gazebo out in the garden. Neighboring that was a grass tennis court for those looking to work off a few pints or maybe just get a little exercise.

For those who enjoy a good run (especially on a brisk autumn morning), there is a wonderful 3-4 mile loop that finishes off descending into the nearby village of Inistioge. The view is absolutely breath taking, as is the preceding climb through some pasture lands. If you’re a photographer, you want to be there…trust me. The village itself is quite lovely. It has a small market (great for the staples), a few restaurants (which close early…so be thankful for the well equipped kitchen of the Coach House), and, of course, a selection of very hospitable pubs. On the walk from the village back to the Coach House (app. ½ mile), you will pass by a pitch where, if timed right, you may catch the local lads playing Gaelic football, or the Kilkenny favorite…hurling.

As there are not enough characters to praise this place, or our experience, I’ll end with this… the Belchers were fantastic hosts!!!!!
