Set in its very own tidal creek on the banks of the River Fowey, The Old Sawmills is a haven of tranquility.

A converted water mill dating back to the 17th century

Nestled in acres of woodland, the location alone is stunningly beautiful.

Whilst staying at the Old Sawmills you have the feeling of being on your own island, as access to the Sawmills is by boat... yet you can walk out any time, along the scenic footpath of the Saints way.

The site has seen a wealth of history from medieval merchants to Wind in the Willows, wartime employment to world famous recording studio. Located between the charming village of Golant and the picturesque town of Fowey, it’s both an ideal base for visiting many of the sights of Cornwall and a perfect setting for simply relaxing and watching the tide lap in. Good fishing can be had from the outer quay and there are many walks that can be joined from the grounds

The Old Sawmills is a dog’s paradise too, and well behaved animals are welcome.

A charming newly restored two bed roomed wooden lodge, nestled on the edge of woodland and overlooking a beautiful private creek situated by the River Fowey. Access is by boat or footpath. With central heating and a wood stove, the lodge is a delightfully cosy hideaway any time of year. We include boat transfer from Golant and we can arrange boat hire should you wish to be able to travel by boat for the rest of your stay, alternatively a 10-15 minute walk with panoramic views of the River Fowey takes you from Sawmills into the village of Golant where our guests can park their cars.

Situated between the charming village of Golant and the historic port of Fowey, the Old Sawmills is within easy reach of many of Cornwall’s attractions. The Sawmills is an ideal base for walkers as there are several exceptional coast and country side walks that can be joined right from the doorstep of the Sawmills. Longer or short term boat hire is available in Fowey, making it quick and easy to nip in and out of the town from the Sawmills. River trips, cruises and fishing outings, can all be arranged from Fowey, as well as Canoe and Kayak expeditions. Fowey has a wealth of Restaurants, bistros, tearooms and pubs, all offering food. Superb beaches and coves in the vicinity. Plenty of Fascinating Historic country houses including the splendid Lanhydrock. Many gardens to visit, particularly the magnificent Lost Gardens of Heligan and the world famous Eden project, which also hosts The Eden Sessions, a series of one day music festivals. Bike hire, golf and surfing are all within easy reach.

Excellent stay.

My family had a fantastic holiday staying here at the Sawmills Lodge. We were given a very friendly welcome by the manager Ruth who then boated us and our luggage down the river Fowey. We went under the railway bridge and what a stunning hideaway and location. The Lodge itself has its own private garden and is very well equipped, like home from home. We couldn't resist lighting the log burning stove in the evenings. The children had tremendous fun on the canoes in the creek and most definitely did not want to leave. We had some lovely walks into the nearby town of Fowey, to get essentials and to wander the great shops and public houses. The nearby village of Golant has an excellent pub, the Fishermans Arms who were also very welcoming. The accommodation is brilliant and in a truly peaceful setting. Never a dull moment and so much to enjoy for all ages. If looking to holiday in Cornwall I couldn't think of anywhere better to recommend with the nearby beautiful beaches, walks and Eden Project, we will most definitely be returning this year.

Fantastic

We loved this place, a true getaway spot.
The location was beautiful, away from the beaten track, peaceful, on the waters edge which is tidal, there is wildlife only as neighbours.
You need to be reasonably fit to really enjoy the location and walk out to the local villages, views are fabulous.
The Lodge, clean, fully equipt, amazing bathroom, lovely. It was just the two of us and the dog, perfect size for easy maintainance whilst your there.
Ruth is lovely, friendly, welcoming and helpful.
We loved it so much that we are going back for our honeymoon.

It sells gorgeous food and cakes and is well worth a visit.
The lodge was clean, comfortable and had everything that we needed.
If you are looking to visit cornwall and want somewhere special to stay.....This is the place!
Ruth met us on arrival and was friendly and gave us some useful tips to enjoy our stay in Golant.

Secluded Bliss in Cornwall

I celebrated my 40th birthday in style at this amazing place. Ruth was so helpful when we booked and when we met her. We were picked up from Golant and boated to the Old Sawmills, a beautiful trip along the river until we got to the creek. The Sawmills is set back from the river and looks stunning nestled in the woodland - I was very excited, it looked so amazing and my guests were clearly impressed!

It didn't disappoint when we got inside. The dining area overlooks the creek and you just feel you are away from it all with just nature around you. It was very clean and the kitchen had everything you could want. We got the wood burner going straight away and cracked open the fizz - perfect.

There are lovely walks, we went to the Fishermans pub at Golant and into Fowey where there are great little shops and loads of pubs and grub to be had, loved White Doll Arts in particular.

The weather was so good when we were there we swam in the creek and we messed about in the rowing boat, sat outside on the deck and generally relaxed as hard as we could! The Sawmills has everything you need and whilst it is stylish inside you don't feel you are frightened of putting down a glass or dropping crumbs. On our final night we had a few drinks outside and when it was dark and our eyes adjusted we were able to see more stars than any of us had ever seen in our lives - it was truely amazing.

We all loved everything about this place, its quirkiness was so endearing and we were really sad to leave, highly recommend to everyone. Even though we didn't take our children on this occasion, that just gives me an excuse to go back because I know they would love it too!
