St. Paul Villa Rental Photos and Description

Airy 2 storey villa, spacious 3 double bedrooms all en suite sleeps 6 + cot

Zandoli is a spacious, three bedroom two-storey wooden house on Pigeon Beach Road. Set on a gently sloping hillside within the National Parkland area of Historic English Harbour and Nelson's Dockyard, the lovely sandy Beach at Pigeon Point voted one of the ten best beaches in the Caribbean is just 3 minutes walk away. Beautifully designed and built in traditional Caribbean style, it has painted Jalousie wooden shuttered doors and windows to catch the breeze, ceiling fans and large shady verandas with south westerly sunset views across Falmouth Harbour towards Rendezvous Bay. Comfortably appointed with Balinese teak furniture all the bedrooms have Four poster queen sized beds and all have en suite shower/ bath rooms. The house has a well equipped open-plan kitchen upstairs and two separate lounge areas upstairs and down with a lovely view across Falmouth bay. The house is in a quiet location, yet within easy walking distance of all the facilities at Antigua Yacht Club and Marina and the restaurants, bars, cafes and shops of both Falmouth & English Harbour.

Entering from the gated car parking area, through the 'Bali Gate' ensures privacy and security around the house. Landscaped gardens around the house are planted with a large variety of colourful tropical plants and trees including cactus, palms, banana trees, frangipani and bougainvillea all tended to by Gilberto the gardener twice a week.

Approach the front entrance porch and just prior to entering the house there is a Balinese stone carved warm shower set amongst the palms to wash sand away when returning from a day at the beach.

Step into the cool interior with wooden polished floors throughout and large shady verandas on both levels.

There is a comfortable lounge area on both levels within the main house and the open plan kitchen upstairs leads out onto the dining area on the upper veranda. With its large round table, seating for up to ten people and sunset views overlooking Falmouth Harbour Bay, it's the ideal setting for relaxed family holiday meals and entertaining, especially cocktails at sundown!

Our housekeeper Fiona prepares the house and welcomes clients on arrival. She shows all the facilitiesof the house and demonstrates the security alarm system.

There is maid-service twice a week: coming to clean and tidy the house, change bedding and towels and do the house laundry. Any personal laundry is done by separate arrangement with Fiona.

Any other special requirements made by prior arangement with Fiona, such as babysitting, for which payment is made directly to her.

The location of the house is within easy reach of all the shops and cafes, restaurants and bars of both English and Falmouth Harbour.

A car is not essential but we do recommend renting a vehicle for exploring further afield and enjoying the island to the full. There are several taxi and rental firms close by and they will do an airport collection and return service. We recommend several companies to clients and send out lots of information about the house and the island once a booking is confirmed.

There is ample info in a pack at the house with other activities, eating and shopping recommendations well as important information to do with the house facilities.

Guestbook comments from the owner

“I came again to Zandoli…..” - It sounds as if it could be an introduction to a Daphne du Maurier novel ,and in so many ways it is evocative of a place where erstwhile memories can be conjured again and again. For upon reacquaintance one is instantly reminded of the previous visit, to an idyllic location and a marvellous house in which to luxuriate at ease in an atmosphere of calm and natural beauty.

The owners have created Zandoli in the essence of a Thai dwelling with strong Balinese influence in design and décor, yet with all conveniences and appurtenances of the 21st Century subtly disguised within a setting which is timeless. It is thus that upon finding the inviting warmth within this environment, one feels completely relaxed and ready to enjoy a vacation of a lifetime in such ambient surroundings. “The Help” (pardon current parlance) Fiona, is effusively welcoming, and any request how big or small is no problem for her.

The proximity of one of the finest amongst its 365-boasted beaches, which Antigua offers (one for every day of the year) is paramount, for within a mere 200 metres is the most wonderful Pigeon Bay beach, which the house overlooks from its well-chosen position, affording an ever-changing view of the bay, which is actively enchanting from dawn until night. One can sit on the balcony all day and watch the ships and boats which ply in and out of English Harbour: the myriad colour changes of the sky and sea during the hours of daylight, and the most fantastic skyscapes of the most vibrant colours of the spectrum, as the sun goes down over the silhouette of the hill on the opposite side of the bay - such unforgettable and mesmerising sunsets to be found anywhere in the world.

Also within easy reach nearby is Nelson’s Dockyard , without doubt one of the best attractions; unmolested for nearly 300 years, still utilising all the original sympathetically restored buildings, transports the visitor back to the period of the late 18th century. It is especially evocative with all the traditional tall ships and sailing boats moored by the quays, or in the tranquil blue waters of this amazing natural harbour.

Without wishing to provide a travelogue of the island, there is so much to enjoy with excellent restaurants and exciting haunts to be savoured, all within a stone’s throw from the house called “Zandoli”. Once experienced you too will be totally and forever smitten with its charms and the call of the Caribbean.

The property was excellently appointed and resourced. It was very secure and clean. It was attended to by the maid who visited three times over the week to make the beds and change the sheets. There were three double rooms, each equipped with comfortable double beds, mosquito nets over the beds (essential) and ample wardrobe space. The bathrooms were clean. Sometimes the toilets took a long time to fill up and the upstairs one didn't flush occasionally, (maybe local water pressure issue - I'm not a plumber!). Plenty of towels for use in the property and to take to the beach. You do need to read the material the owners supply on the hot water situation as you might get a cold shower in the mornings if you don't pop the switch on. Solar power gave us great showers in the evening. There was ample outdoor space for rest and relaxation. A HUGE garden which the kids just marveled at in our easter egg hunt! There is a laundry for use (although the written guide doesn't specify this is for use by visitors). There is a washing line. The tumble drier is clearly for the maid only as there is a cover over it. Walking distance to town (5 mins) and the beach (5 mins). The kitchen has a great oven and microwave and everything you need for the week including kitchen roll, cling film, foil etc. Crockery and cutlery is plentiful and good quality. Secure all food away as teeny ants are around. Loads of parking at the property and behind gates. Nice guide on restaurants to eat at and we took advantage of 'roti sue' who delivered food to us one evening.

Owner's Response: We are delighted that your family particularly enjoyed the gardens at Zandoli for your Easter egg hunt and that you found everything you needed supplied for your vacation in the house. We did communicate with you prior to your visit that the island was suffering a drought and apologised in advance if there were issues with the gov water supply, the pressure being part of the problem; this was duly being fixed and quickly became fully functional again. It has also rained since your visit so our huge rainwater catchment is filling up again too. We are glad that nothing seems to have spoilt your vacation and we look forward to welcoming you back to Antigua and Villa Zandoli one day.

Just wonderful!

I don't think we have ever had such a relaxing holiday, and staying at Zandoli was certainly a large part of the experience. The house is beautifully appointed, with everything you could possibly want, and a great deal of thought has gone into making this easy living. Although there is no air conditioning, the airy nature of the villa means we never felt too hot and although you do need lots of insect repellent, there are nets on all the beds and good screens on the windows throughout. The villa is set in lush gardens with a large parking area and it all feels very safe.

Just 5 minutes down the road is delightful Pigeon Beach and the equally delightful Bumpkins beach bar, where we seemed to spend quite a lot of time - I can recommend the Pina Coladas. It's only a short walk to both Nelson's Dockyard and English Harbour where there are loads of great restaurants and bars, and right opposite the house is a lovely hiking trail over the headland. At the marina by English Harbour there is a well equipped little supermarket - there are no large UK-style supermarkets in this part of the island but lots of general stores which need a bit of negotiating but have everything you would need (although we generally ate out and just had breakfast in the house). Worth knowing is that the only ATM we found locally was within the entrance to Nelson's Dockyard.

Pippy was very helpful with all our arrangements and Fiona, the housekeeper is a treasure. We will definitely aim to return in the future.

Owner's Response: So glad you had a wonderful relaxing time at Zandoli and enjoyed the English Harbour area with its numerous restaurants, cafe's and bars; we are fortunate to have quite a few of the best restaurants in Antigua just a stroll away from the house; plus we have a number of local places to buy in superb home cooked food to take away! We look forward to asking our much treasured Fiona to prepare the house for your return visit sometime too. Thank you for your great review :)

A true home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Zandoli was a true island getaway without sacrificing the comforts of home. It's lovely and spacious with all of the amenities you need to have a relaxed vacation. It's located near restaurants, groceries and shops, and most importantly a quick walk to the beach! We were a bit concerned about there not being air conditioning but it was never a problem. The house was breezy and cool.

The owners are extremely pleasant, responsive and accommodating. Before our holiday was over we were talking about coming back!

This is probably the nicest house that we've ever stayed in. Very comfortable layout, really nice living space. We were 5 people (3 adults and 2 kids - aged 8 and 6). The kids loved running around the lawn. Only a 5 minute walk down to the beach and also a 5 minute walk to a really nice hike. As if that weren't enough, also a 5 minute walk to a number of excellent restaurants (the best selection of restaurants in one place that we've seen among the islands). Thanks Pippy!

Stunning villa in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We came to Zandoli on a friend's recommendation as the perfect venue to celebrate a special birthday - and it lived up to all our expectations.

From the time we arrived Fiona, the housekeeper, made us feel very welcome and showed us round the property and she continued to look after us during the rest of the week.

The house is very comfortable, well furnished and equipped, and the views from the main veranda are stunning, even in the rain. There is plenty of information on the various attractions and restaurants around the island and the provision of a phone for making local calls made making reservations easy.

Pigeon Beach, less than 5 minutes walk from the house, is very attractive with plenty of shade, not to mention 2 restaurants, if you need to escape the sun.

A short walk in the other direction takes you to the bars and restaurants of English Harbour, together with the historic site of Nelson's Dockyard - all throughly recommended.

The week we were there co-incided with the charter boat show and so the area was very lively for the week.

We had hired a car and found that useful for exploring the rest of the island, although that is not essential.

In summary, we couldn't have asked for a better location and we look forward to returning one day.

Balinese dream in the tropics

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 6 was in Antigua for the Classics Yatch Regatta and chose this beautiful home as our home base. This is an ideal location for a group... the house is luxurious yet comfortable. The views of the harbor are fabulous and everything you could possibly need is in the house. This is a quick walk to the marina and the buzz of "downtown".

Pippy was wonderful to deal with as was Fiona, her lovely house-keeper. Couldn't recommend this place more!!

This lovely wooden two storey Caribbean house is set in the picturesque National Parkland of English Harbour on the road leading down to one of the loveliest sandy beaches on the island at Pigeon Point. A well maintained family beach, with safe swimming, shade, a kids recreation area and a beach bar. English Harbour is the most Historic region in Antigua with abundant evidence of it's Naval past about 10 mins walking distance of the house. The most important being the C18th Nelsons Dockyard 'the only surviving Georgian dockyard in the world' yet still an area of yachting activity. A living museum with old colonial buildings housing associated businesses as well as a museum, hotels and restaurants. A gentle walk from the dockyard takes one to Fort Berkely at the neck of English Harbour, a more active hike over the top of the Hill crosses Middle Ground, with historic remains of several Forts and amazing viewswhich ends back down at Pigeon Beach for a swim and refreshments at Bumpkins Cafe or delicious lunch at the new chic Catherines Cafe Plage. There are plenty of other great Bars, Restaurants, Cafes and Shops at both English Harbour and at Falmouth harbour by The Antigua Yacht Club.
