Winter Holiday

Janet and Alf Alnwick, Northumberland, UK
Review Submitted: March 10, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
We travelled to Navazza using our own car via ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam, Amsterdam to Strasbourg, Strasbourg to Navazza. A wonderful journey taking in two city breaks and highly recommended. This was our second visit to the Apartment in Navazza for a winter skiing holiday at Gromo Spiazzi. By taking our own car we were able to take skis, boots and all the other paraphenalia required for a winter sports holiday. The apartment was well appointed, clean, warm and cosy. We had a small problem with electrics but the owner's agent sorted it out the next day. We would recommend eating at the Sports Bar in Gromo. The owners are so friendly and obliging. Ask them to make you a Lasagne or a Macarone Cheese, absolutely delicious. We would definitely recommend this apartment and this part of Italy. The mountains are magnificent, the skiing excellent and the accommodation very welcoming especially when the log fire is lit. We also like the fact that there is a garage to house the skis and car at the end of the day.
Owner's Response: It is good to see return visitors. Italy is like a home away from home for me and I am so glad so our guests feel the same.

Winter wonderland in Italy

Tom and Barbara Helston, Cornwall. England
Review Submitted: March 5, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
Thankyou so very much for a wonderful experiance. In the 8 days we were there it snowed for 7 and was bright and sunny on the other. Truly magical surroundings with phenomenol views and very peaceful.

The property was very comfortable, clean and snug. The wood burner was extremly efficient at keeping us warm and it was lovely sitting on the veranda with glass of wine in hand watching the snow fall.

Thank you James for all your help and advise leading up to the vacation. The young Italian lady who met us was kind, polite and very helpful.

The ski resort area is across the valley so very handy. Ski equip at 15 euros a day and lift pass is 17 euros a day - very good value for money. They cater for downhill and cross country skiing at all levels.

Bergamo is one hour away and has the largest supermarket in Italy (Orio Centre) with superb fresh produce and local foods and the Old Town is worth a visit for the shops and restuarants.

I will be going back with my daughter next winter for skiing and have been recommending the apartment to my friends.
Owner's Response: Glad to see that you managed to get some shopping in as well. Not only is the area good for skiing in the winter but the local walks in the summer are amazing. There are plenty of shops in Bergamo itself as well!

Winter wonderland

Beaula UK
Review Submitted: December 3, 2008 Date of Stay: December 2007
I spent last New year (08) with my family in this beautiful apartment and cannot wait to go back again this year. I want to relive the magic of snuggling in bed with the glow from the huge woodburner, looking out through the french windows on to the snow capped mountains. We have toasted New Year on the balcony eating Panetonne and drinking champagne listening to an orchestra of church bells echonig through the valleys.
The apartment is charming, being comfotable, well equipped, cosy and very warm and built in typical challet style. .It appeared to be very clean and well maintained.
There is lots to do in the area.
Although we don't ski ourselves we did try out all the chair lifts up to the challet restaurants where we drank copious amounts of sublime hot chocolate. There was lots of snow and it was such fun to watch the snow boarders and skiers whizzing down the pistes below our chair lifts. We all had a go at toboggoning on the lower slopes.
The surrounding villages are typically quaint and pretty with some excellent shops selling authentic Italian food particularly delicious Parmesan and olive oil.--so make sure you have saved some baggage allowance to bring lots home.
In Navasso itself there is an excellent restaurant where we were given complimentary italian liqueurs at the end of the meal which were so strong that most of us choked and we couldn't stop laughing.
If you go in winter remember to take/hire snow chains for the car--you need them to drive down the mountain in snow! And don't forget to drive out to the surrounding area with the lakes. The scenery is beautiful.
