MAISON MIREILLE

St Pompont Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

Private and tranquil with lovely views across a wooded valley

These most delightful of gites are reached along a country lane, winding through cow pastures and flower meadows to where they nestles in the hills overlooking a wooded valley.

For many this blissfully quiet location will be an opportunity to do nothing but relax and recharge the batteries. For others it will be the perfect opportunity for walking, cycling or horse riding and enjoy the rich and varied wildlife - deer, red squirrels, kites, golden oriole, nightingales'nightjars, hoopoe,a miriad of butterflies and abundant wild flowers.

The pretty village of St.Pompon is 10mins. walk away and has all the basic shops, two bars and an excellant restaurant. It is worth taking time to sit in the square and do some serious people watching or saunter through the back lanes and soak up the ambiance. The village celebrates those long Saturday summer evenings with street parties - trestles and benches are set out, local food and wine sold at stalls, music played and dancing in the street - great fun.

Surrounding Area

The picturesqe village of Daglan is five minutes away. Here you will find the Petit Paris one of the finest gourmet restaurants in the area.Eat outside in the square - very French

The romantic cliff side villages of Beynac and La Roque Gageac are within a few minutes drive as is the bastide town of Domme with its wonderful views over the Dordogne.

The historic town of Sarlat with countless restaurants and colourful street markets is just a ride away and the Sunday street market et St,Cyprien takes some beating for atmosphere

A visit to this region would not be complete without time on a river. This might be paddling in the shallows, swimming to an island, picnicing on the banks, perhaps a boat trip from La Roque Gageac or better still floating down the river in a canoe. - its glorious Garden lovers are spoilt for choice, with the fantastic topiary gardens at du Manoir d'Eyrignac,at one end of the scale,to the lovely natural Jardins de l'Albrede at the other. The garden at Marqueyssac with its breathtaking views of the river and neighbouring chateaux is candlelit on Thursday evenings - Magical.

French Dream Vacation

  • 5 of 5
We rented the Maison Mireille for 2 weeks in April of 2011 - we are a family with one small child. The house is gorgeous, the pictures just do not do it justice. It's a very old house that is a part of a larger estate just outside the St. Pompont village. The house was beautifully and meticulously reconstructed by the owners themselves. Everything exudes quality - from the floors, furniture, baths and towels - all was brand new and sparkingly clean. Great heating, kitched fitted with everything you would need to cook a great meal with what you'd bought from wonderful markets in Sarlat or St. Cyprien. When you arrive - you will have a welcome pack of some bread, eggs tomatoes et c. to get you going. The outside garden is great for reading in the sun and quiet.David and Linda are extremely nice and will help you with advice, but are very inobtrusive. The St. Pompont village has a small weekly market, cafe, a restaurant and a farmacy. Don't miss the Petit Paris restaurant in Daglan and the little patisserie in Castlenaud. In short - a perfect vacation in a great picturesque and extremely quiet gourmet area of France. And - it's a terrific value. Maison Mireille is the larger house that is great for a family and there's a second smaller rental on the estate good for a couple or a small family. We loved the place so much that we rented it for next year's vacation before we left - and trust us, after you stay there - you will too :-)

Home Away from Home....Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5
A big thank you to Linda and David for sharing their little piece of paradise with us for seven days in May 2011. This charming Gite is well located on a beautiful country meadow overlooking the lush countryside. The cows, chickens and horse all added to the character of this country property. A truly special house, which definitely reflects Linda and David's attention to detail as well as their love and care. Their place is so cozy and relaxing with all the amenities such as a gas barbeque, washing machine, dishwasher, outdoor furniture with a sun umbrella, as well as comfortable furnishings and added touches that made this cottage a home away from home. It was like staying at a friend's house instead of a rental property. We especially enjoyed the sunroom. Perfect place to linger over dinner or cuddle up on the couch with a good book. Linda and David were so welcoming. A tasty bottle of french wine was presented to us on our arrival. A most appreciated gesture after our long drive. Linda and David were both extremely helpful in recommending driving tours so we could experience this gorgeous region of Dordogne. The quaint village of St Pompon is only a short stroll down the country road - a perfect spot to enjoy a cold beer at an outside table or take in the farm market. We were extremely lucky to find Maison Mireille and would highly recommend this special place to anyone who really wants to experience Southern France. We absolutely loved it.

Magnificent Maison Mireille

  • 5 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our one week stay in this beautiful gite. It is situated on a hill overlooking a green valley with a handsome horse in one field and fat healthy cows in another. Fresh flowers, bottle of wine, bread, cheese & assorted goodies awaited us on our arrival. Many evenings we sat relaxing in our private yard at the patio table drinking our wine and our bbq'd dinner with the birds singing including the cuckoo. The gite itself is perfect for two couples. It is both cozy and spacious, immaculately clean with every convenience of home, including plenty of surfaces to put your toiletries as well as wall hooks for hanging. So tastefully & artistically decorated. Both Linda and David graciously were quick to recommend places to eat as well as sites to see. The surrounding villages and rivers were breathtaking in their beauty. St Pompon was just a stroll over the hill to go for lunch, Daglan a short drive away for pizza. The villagers are friendly and welcoming. We hiked in the area as well as canoed down the Dordogne river. The only complaint is our visit was too short to the Dordogne but we will be back! I highly recommend this accommodation for couples, singles, families both young & old.

A great choice for holiday accommodation

  • 5 of 5
Maison Mireille has been lovingly restored by David and Linda to create a brilliant blend of modern design and comfort in an interesting historic setting. They provided everything to make our stay enjoyable and are kind and charming hosts. The location is so peaceful and beautiful and very convenient for the many attractions of the Dordogne and surrounding areas. The nearby medieval villages of St Pompon and Daglan are quiet and charming. We can’t imagine a better choice of accommodation.

DAVE AND SUE WARD

We had a wonderful time with David and Linda the perfect hosts, the Gite was exactly as described in the details spotlessly clean and every amenity. David and Linda went out of there way to make our holiday complete in every way.The setting of this property above St Pom Pont in the hills is idyllic looking out over the valley below with wonderful views. There are plenty of restaurants within a few miles radius and the village held a street party every Saturday.
If you want to escape the hum drum life go visit, we will again!
Good luck to David and Linda see you soon.
