Wonderful house - wonderful location.

  • 5 of 5
An extremely well appointed house with modern facilities yet retaining the olde worlde charm of country living.
Set in huge gardens, sitting on the patio with a glass or two of wine viewing the herons trying to poach fish from the well stocked huge pond at the foot of the rear garden is what life is for.
Very peaceful and with Inxent's highly recommended auberge restaurant a few minutes walk and the Beussent chocolate factory / shop five minutes drive away, there is little need to venture further.
But if you become restive, the valley in which Inxent sits is particularly pretty and a short drive through brings you to Montrueil with its abundance of restaurants and excellent market. A few miles further is the coast and Le Touquet may beckon.
However, our main enjoyment was in the garden and house, especially at night when in March, it can be chilly in the evening only to be warmed by a lovely log burning fire. And of course, a family Scrabble competition with, yes you've guessed it, another glass of wine.
A house and location that left nothing to be desired.

A great week for the family in Inxent

  • 5 of 5
We booked a holiday for the last week in August to celebrate my 40th birthday. With 7 adults and 3 children, this house was the perfect size, and not too far from the Channel ports. Michael met us when we arrived - instantly likeable, knowledgeable and helpful. Fortunately we didn't need to call on his help for the remainder of the week, but I'm sure he would have been there to assist if the need had arisen. The garden of this property was a great size for our children to play in. There is a large pond (with carp!) but our kids were always supervised so there were no great concerns. Even the plastic sheep is friendly! The house is very well-equipped. The new kitchen, proliferation of bathrooms and English TV were particularly appreciated. Everything was very clean and tidy, and there were plenty of books - particularly if you're into politics!
Inxent itself is very pretty. There are no shops, although the local garage was handy when the battery in our Peugeot died in Le Touquet! The nearest major supermarket seemed to be the Leclerc in Attin. Not too far away for our needs. We really enjoyed visiting Montreuil. The view from the ramparts was quite stunning. (Even for my brother when he dared to take his hands away from in front of his eyes). It's a very pretty town, and we can certainly recommend the chocolate shop! We also very much enjoyed Le Touquet. The beach there is fantastic and the thatched cottages in the woods give the town a very refined air. The centre of the town is pretty busy though. Our children loved the carousel! We can also recommend Berck. It's a smaller place than Le Touquet, but still a lovely beach, and I enjoyed a fine plate of Merguez on the sea front!
We were lucky to have pretty good weather for the last week of August, but on the one day that the rain came down, we enjoyed a day out at Nausicaa in Boulogne. It's a great aquarium, and had plenty for the adults and children to enjoy. Finally, as Inxent is so close to the ports, it was nice on the last day to be on the tunnel and back into England without having a huge drive to get there. Highly recommended!

This delightful family holiday home is in Inxent, probably the most attractive village along the river Course valley which runs some 25 kms between the market town of Desvres and the ancient fortified town of Montreuil sur mer. This beautiful rural retreat is within fast and easy reach to a number of beaches on the Côte d’Opale including Le Touquet, Merlimont, St Cècile and Hardelot. The property is on the outskirts of the village in a wonderfully secluded spot surrounded by rich green country side and a number of natural water features provided by the river itself. The village boasts a well established 18 century Auberge and a number of other historical buildings, along with a small equestrian centre and children’s farm.

Notes:
Many of our guests are delighted that there are bedrooms and bathrooms on both the ground and first floors, useful if you’re holidaying with someone who is not keen on stairs. It also means that two families sharing the holiday home can have their own space. This stunning rural location does have water features – pond and brook – that could be a potential hazard to those playing unsupervised in the gardens.
