Make Your Colorado Vacation a Memorable One!
We live in Mantiou Springs and work in education. Although we love Manitou, we also love being able to get away to Salida for nice relaxing weekends when we are able to.
Eileen or Wally purchased this house in 2004
As we said earlier, we wanted a place to get away to that was within a reasonable distance from our home in Manitou Springs. We fell in love with Salida and were fortunate enough to find one of the very few available homes on the river. We just couldn't pass it up!
The house and neighborhood are surprisingly quiet considering how close it is to downtown. All the traffic turns before they come down Sackett unless they live on that street, which is only 3 blocks long. We have the Arkansas River in our backyard, and all the downtown shops and restaurants are a short walk away (one block). We are 20 minutes from Monarch and less than a mile from the Salida Golf Course. There are no limits to the things you can do in and around Salida and we think that we were more than lucky to have found a house in this particular location. We love it there.
We use Rio Perdido as a home base for skiing Monarch (25 minute drive) and soaking in any of the magnificent hot springs just a short drive away. Downtown Salida and its excellent restaurants, shops and galleries is just a short walk away from this cozy two-bedroom home. In the summer, nothing beats enjoying your favorite beverage on the deck overlooking the Arkansas River. It's a comfortable home away from home in one of my favorite Colorado towns.
We stayed Rio Perdido over Thanksgiving weekend. It couldn't have been a lovelier weekend with family. Our favorite part was sitting on the deck that overlooks the river. The house is close to town, so we were able to walk to the small-town Christmas parade the day after Thanksgiving; it felt like we were a part of the community. The owners were always quick to respond to my questions about renting, and the house was very clean. Salida is one of our favorite places to hang out whenever possible.
We just stayed at Rio Perdido for a long weekend. The house was clean, cozy, and very comfortable. We had read all the other positive reviews, but it even exceeded our expectations. We hope to do some skiing at Monarch this winter and were surprised by the quick and easy drive up. Weather was nice so we enjoyed some time on the back porch and the deck overlooking the river. Most of all we loved being in the heart of downtown Salida and close to everything we needed.
We could walk everywhere we wanted to go in town and it awesome to watch the rafters in the river. The house is in need of some updates since it's been 10 years since last one. The washer/dryer combo is located in the bathroom we measured 15 inches between the washer and the bathroom sink, kept hitting the dryer when trying to use the hair dryer. The jetted tub was in need if a good scrubbing around the jets. There were several bikes but not in working condition. The old wood floor was nice but some of the boards were cracked and we had several splinters during the stay. The river deck was also nice but was loose and couldn't let grand kids near it. We had a bat come through the old duct taped chimney in the living room that was exciting. This house is a deal and close to town and river. It was quite and no traffic. The owners were always helpful with payments and questions.
Great place to stay! Lots of room for a family, or a few friends. Great location too...on the Arkansas River and a 1 minute walk to downtown Salida restaurants. The house was clean and has all the items indicated on the listing (free wifi, cable, tvs in every room, cookware, etc.).
I just returned from a 2-week stay at Rio Perdido. My family and I totally enjoyed our stay; our only regreat is that we booked for two weeks and not entire month. It's close proximity to the whitewater park, art galleries and restaurants, including Cafe Dawn, were a major plus. We were coming and going all day long. It's lower deck down by the river was a favorite family gatheriing place each evening. It was a great place to soak in a few mid-day rays as well. We're already looking forward to future stays at Rio Perdido.
