IDYLLIC COTTAGE WITH LOG FIRES AND PRIVATE RIVERSIDE TERRACE

Golant Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 bedroomed converted boathouse and lime kiln with magnificent views

The Boathouse is an idyllic cottage on the spectacular Fowey River Estuary, just two miles from Fowey and a step away from the water’s edge. A converted boathouse and lime kiln, the cottage is one of the oldest buildings in the picturesque village of Golant.

Comfortable and welcoming with magnificent views across the river, there is a log fire for cosy winter holidays and a private terrace ideal for spring and summer barbecues.

The accommodation is reversed so that the living area has the benefit of the wonderful views over the river. In this light and airy room, white walls and prints complement a mixture of antiques and quality furnishings, with the dining area looking out over the inner harbour.

Driving instructions: Driving along the A380 towards St Austell, take the B3269 left, which is signposted to Fowey (it also has a signpost to the Hidden Valley Gardens).

Continue along the B3269, after about 3 miles you'll come to some pale-green/white farm buildings followed shortly by a staggered crossroad, take the left turning signposted to Golant.

Keep following this road towards the river, at the waterfront it turns to the right, continue past the no through-fare sign, The Boathouse is less than a hundred yards on the right.

IDYLLIC COTTAGE

  • 5 of 5
We had a really wonderful holiday here with our 8 year old daughter. The cottage has a lovely outlook over the water and our daughter loved exploring the mud flats when the tide was out and crabbing when the tide was in. There is also a very good playground just up the road.
Judith has thought of everything and we loved the welcome scones waiting on our arrival. Golant is very near Fowey so is a great location with lots to do and see. Would definately recommend.

SITTING ON THE DOCK OF THE BAY, WATCHING THE TIDE

  • 5 of 5
You can watch the tide all the time from this wonderful property right on a side arm of the River Fowey. The website promises a lot - and you won't be disappointed. The well-equipped Boathouse provides comfort and some luxury. It is very clean, very tastefully furnished and to wake up to the sun in the double bedroom is pure bliss. Weather allowing, the terrace offers a grand view over Golant and the River Fowey. On cooler days, the stove in the living room makes for cozy evenings. The kitchen is spacious and has all the trappings you need for cooking and baking.
The icing on the cake is the way Judy (the owner) treats her guests. We were bowled over by the reception with cream tea, freshly cut flowers and fresh herbs. We're normally not too keen on owners living nearby from our holiday home, but we're glad we met Judy. She is a fabulous host and doesn't ever give the impression of intruding. Quite the contrary - we enjoyed our chats and hope to see her again.
Golant is a little village with mainly water sports activities (a lively rowing club starts its practice runs right in front of the Boathouse). We used it as a base for a lot of walking and some sightseeing (Landhydrock Estate impressed us). Be aware of narrow and steep roads on the way down to the village.
The weather wasn't always what we had hoped for during our stay, but the Boathouse was a place you enjoy staying at, when you don't want to go out.

OUR SUPER GOLANT HOLIDAY

  • 5 of 5
The Boathouse is an absolutely super cottage for a first class relaxing holiday. Everything about the cottage shouts 'quality' and the welcome afternoon tea of clotted cream, jam and scones set the standard for our week. No expense has been spared to make the cottage very homely with every amenity you could possibly need while on holiday and from the moment you walk in you feel 'at home' and relaxed.
It's spotlessly clean and obviously a labour of love, top marks to Judith! Quiz night with the locals at The Fishermans Arms was great fun, really nice to socialise with the village residents who made us very welcome. We will return.... Trevor & Sharon, Godalming, Surrey

A GLORIOUS WEEK AT THE BOATHOUSE!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at The Boathouse for our honeymoon, for a week at the beginning of December 2012. It was a glorious week!

Everything about The Boathouse has been carefully and lovingly thought out, from the stylish, yet cosy sitting room to the very comfortable beds and good quality soap in the bathroom! We loved waking up to the view of the estuary. Judith is an excellent and extremely generous host. The homemade bread and scones, lashings of clotted cream, very nice red wine, fresh fruit and flowers were an unexpected and lovely surprise on our arrival.

Golant is a very sweet village and perfect for our holiday away from the city. Fowey is beautiful too and has great shops and restaurants. The Bistro and Sam’s were particularly good, both with great food and lovely atmosphere. The family butcher-come-delicatessen is also worth a mention, particularly for their homemade and reared steak and kidney pie, amazing!

We can’t recommend The Boathouse enough.

THE BOATHOUSE IN GOLANT

  • 5 of 5
The Boathouse is a wonderful property in a great location even allowing for the narrow lanes that take you down to Golant. The views are lovely and especially so at high tide when local rowers take to the estuary. Everything about the property from it's location to it's decor and cleanliness is exactly as described on the website if not better.

Judith's attention to detail is second to none and her welcome pack is fast becoming legendary! We especially enjoyed the home made bread and scones.
We would have no hesitation in recommending the Boathouse to family, friend's and anyone looking for a quiet relaxing time.

We recommend Sam's restaurant in Fowey as a place not to miss and Pickwick's pub in St Issey near Padstow to anyone who finds themselves in the area. We were not too impressed with the Fisherman's Arms pub in Golant, OK for a drink but our meals were very average.

THE BOATHOUSE, GOLANT

  • 5 of 5
The Boathouse has the setting for a perfect holiday, also we couldn't have asked for a better host than Judith.
The welcome cream tea on our arrival and all the extra touches were wonderful, Thank you.
It was a joy to have a holiday in Cornwall, so many nice places to see but most of all was coming back to the Boathouse.
The views are ever changing with the tides, Boats, Wildlife and the local Fisherman Arms/ Cormorant Restaurant offer good food, and the coastal walk to Fowey is a must if you like walking.
The Boathouse was immaculately presented with everything you would need, supplied, including kitchen sundries..
It was a pleasure to meet you JUdith
Many thanks Ed and Alison, Dorchester

Restaurants, pubs and stunning scenery are within walking distance, while sandy beaches, historical sites such as Restormel Castle and Lanhydrock House, and the famous Eden Project are a short drive away.

In Summertime there’s a range of activities, and even in high summer the village of Golant remains one of Cornwall’s best-kept secrets as a peaceful waterside retreat. Autumn & Winter holidays are popular too, with the nearby oyster festival and Christmas & New Year celebrations.Golant is an ancient fishing village on the Fowey River Estuary, just two miles from Fowey. The area is steeped in fascinating history, with the last battle between Cromwell's army and the Royalists having taken place nearby in 1644, and many of Daphne du Maurier's novels set in the vicinity.

This stretch of the Fowey River is equally famous as the inspiration for Kenneth Graham's The Wind In The Willows.
