Cambria House Rental Photos and Description

House, 1 Bedroom, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 2)

A quaint, quintessentially California beach cottage, built by noted Cambria watercolor artist and printmaker, Jo Werts. Designed to take maximum advantage of light, it is replete with huge ocean view windows, and high, open-beam ceilings, giving it a light and airy feeling.

It is simply but comfortably furnished with a King Size bed. It is decorated with some of Ms. Werts' works, and a number of other original prints.

The house is located on a hill overlooking Cambria's Marine Terrace, and affords spectacular ocean views from nearly every room in the house. There is a deck off the master bedroom with beautiful, white-water ocean views, as well as a more private, protected deck and garden in the backyard area. A 2-3 minute walk to the ocean bluff hiking trails of the East-West Ranch Openspace, the Harvey St. Beach, Lampton State Park and Wedgewood Tidepools.

Retreat from the heat

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I spent 5 relaxing and peaceful days reconnecting enjoying wonderful meals in town and at the cottage. If you want to sleep in bring a sleeping mask, for walks bring suntan lotion, hat and binoculars or camera. Stop in Morrow Bay to grocery store for good prices and olliberry jam. For tickets for The Pewter Plough theater just leave the cottage number. Great little plays there! My daughter and I are searching for money and time to escape the heat of the San Joaquin Valley. We already refer to this place as "the cottage" like it's. A our vacation home!

Cute little getaway

  • 4 of 5
My husband, 4 month old baby and I spend 3 nights here. We really enjoyed our stay. I have to say, some of the features of this house weren't even shown in the pictures, but it was very nice! The entire house has HUGE windows, so it brightens up the place beautifully (shades for privacy don't worry!) The bed was very comfortable. I worried if I'd have to bring extra pillows or blankets in case there weren't enough, but they stock all different types of pillows, blankets, towels, wash cloths, soaps, etc. We slept like rocks each night..
The kitchen had everything possibly needed: pots, pans, cookie sheets, cups, plates, silverware, spatulas, cutting boards, and even some cooking oils and spices.
Almost all 4 days we saw deer-I saw the picture on this website, but I figured it was a once-in-a-while type of thing-but there were groups of 5 deer almost every day in the yard! One of the days we even saw a baby fawn resting out in the grass next too us.
From the upstairs balcony you are able to see and hear the waves crashing, and one of the days we heard seals barking out somewhere in the ocean.
The driveway is steep, but NOTHING to complain about. I expected it to be much worse, considering some of the earlier reviews on how steep it was, but it wasn't a bad driveway at all.
It's nice, also, that the neighbors all have nice houses as well, and keep their yards beautiful! We weren't bothered at all with neighbors, so it was a peaceful stay.
There were a couple downfalls to the house, though. I'd say the main thing that my husband and I didn't like was the outside balcony to the master bedroom. You can walk up to the house, and go up the stairs and look right into the bedroom. It was a little weird knowing that someone could just walk up to the windows and look in where you were sleeping. We assumed the balcony didn't have stairs, and if they did that they would only be accessible from the back yard, but it isn't, they go to the front. We just locked that door and closed the blinds, though it would have been nice feeling secure to let the shades open and listen to the wind while we slept.
Also, the bathroom was very spacious and nice! But, the shower was kind of a disappointment. I didn't find the temperature control to be so "user-friendly," and my husband had to duck to get his head wet because the water spout was so low. It surprised me that with such a nice place they wouldn't replace the shower-head.
Regardless of those things, we did enjoy it!!

Owner's Response: Dear Taylors,
Glad you had a good stay.
Thank you for your detailed comments. We want people to be very happy and your comments define some aspects of the Artist Cottage that people might not have noticed.
Artist Jo Wertz had her architect design a house that would have her studio on the ground floor and her living area on the top floor. In fact, her doorbell was on the top deck and the sliding door there was her front door. Because the house was designed with an interior spiral staircase (neighbors say Jo in her 90's was seen running up and down the spiral stairs), the outside stairs to the upper deck is the only way to bring large furniture into the bedroom loft area. Some people bring their suitcases up on outside instead of the spiral stairs. We put shades and coverings on all the windows and an additional lock on the sliding door for those people who wish to use for a more secure feeling.
Glad you also mentioned the bathroom. While it has been repainted and a Pergo floor installed, there are no plans to remodel the bathroom and remove the 1960 tile and tub and shower. We have retrofitted as per the water conservation efforts in effect in Cambria for low water flow.
Thanks,
Eileen and Dave

Quiet, homey cottage with great views

  • 5 of 5
Our family of three spent three nights at this cottage last month and just loved it. The owners are friendly and have stocked the cottage with numerous provisions. It is spacious, quiet and comfortable, with huge windows on three sides to let in ample light and impressive views of the ocean. Deer frequently wandered by as well, much to the delight of our 2-year old daughter. There is beach access and a scenic tide pool setting just 4 blocks walk away.

Cambria the town is warm and friendly, with many interesting restaurants. Within a short drive there is additional coastal and beach access, including wildlife to see. We witnessed sea otters one day and elephant seals the next. Of course, Hearst Castle and Sebastian's General Store in San Simeon were an additional nearby treat.

We highly recommend this cottage for a homey, relaxing getaway in a enjoyable central coast town.

Great girlfriend's getaway

Great girlfriend's getaway

This was an ideal location and was spotlessly clean. I woke up each morning and jogged at Fiscalini Ranch. We enjoyed the ocean---took many walks, watched the stars from the deck, enjoyed the ocean views, and RELAXED! No complaints whatsoever!

Most Relaxing

  • 5 of 5
Best vacation we have ever had. Quiet, relaxing, clean, comfortable. Kitchen was well equiped, love all of the out door seating areas. We would definitely stay here again. Only draw back was the very steep driveway/parking area. We managed, but it was alittle challenging. LOVED not having cell phone service. The home phone was more than we needed! Great hiking in Fiscalini Ranch, small town, easy to get around, plenty to do......or not.

A Special Place...

  • 5 of 5
Your cottage far exceeded our expectations. This is a HOME and we felt right at home staying in your wonderful property. It was the perfect place for us to relax, cook, walk, read, listen to music and find a sunny spot to sit. Cambria is a little piece of paradise and we enjoyed the walking in the immediate area and further afield. Cambria village is great and so nice to wander and enjoy the different stores - Brett White Photography and Cambria Coffee Roaster were two of our favourites!
This place touched us deeply and we will definitely be back...and for longer...thank you so much for making your home available. Diane and Tony
