My little cottage is 200 years old and would have once been the gardeners cottage, although sadly no garden but there is a south facing sunny terrace in the front to sit out. It is therefore full of character but quite SMALL with low doors and oak beamed ceilings. It is one of the original '2 up, 2 downs' from around 1800 and in recent years was modernised and a small toilet/shower room added. It has been decorated and furnished in keeping with the period complete with some antique furniture so not really suitable for small children. You do actually sense the history in the ambiance. The kitchen is just big enough for 4 to eat round the table and the living room cosy, especially when the log fire is blazing away in the grate. Situated in a no-thru road, literally just off the main centre and market square of Bingham, it is quiet but with easy access to Nottingham. Fine for 4 people (max )if not to tall!
YOUNG CHILDREN: Children of a responsible age (over around 7 years) are welcome . The antique style of furnishing means low items like fire tongues, small pictures, decorative lights etc. could easily be damaged and at the same time be dangerous to a small child. Babies who are not yet mobile would of course be fine, although we do not have cot facilities, high chairs or any other baby bits and pieces.
MEDIUM TERM LETS: If you are in between houses or working for maybe just 2 or 3 months in the area, it may be that we can give you a slightly preferential rate for a 'medium term ' stay. I regret I cannot possibly match the monthly rates of a 6 month let but I am sure you dont not want the committment of a 6 month contract either. We could talk about it. These rates do not apply to Christmas/New Year.
FIBRE WIFI Super Fast : Available in the cottage!! , however Computers with internet can also be found free of charge just 5 minutes away in the local library on an hourly basis. Often you dont even need to book.
This is my English Home - I am retired and spend a lot of time in France. I come back often so I do hope you enjoy my little cottage as much as I do when I am back.
Where else can you find a delightful period property so close to all amenities and available for medium term lets under 6 months ?
It speaks for itself !!
Well Robin Hood country of course. Come and trace the history of Robin Hood - he robbed the rich to pay the poor (apparently!). The logs for the fireplace come from Nottingham Forest. There are many old villages and pubs all around the area .The evocative 11th century castle - erected by William the Conqueror and rebuilt by the Duke of Newcastle in the 18th century brings back the decades of history associated with Nottingham and surrounding lace market . Nottingham itself boasts the oldest inn in England. Modern Nottingham is thronging with nightlife and restaurants with some of the biggest national companies and Universities based there but there are also many outlying areas of natural beauty and protected bird life.
The great city of Nottingham should not be missed and offers a litany of enthralling museums. Its modern name derives from an Anglo-Saxon chieftain called Snot - hence Snotingham!
Ski: There is a fake Snow Dome in Nottingham where you can indeed ski.
There are trains to Nottingham less than 5 minutes walk from the cottage and similarly express buses about every 20 minutes which take about 30 -40 minutes to the centre.
