Pitlochry and Highland Perthshire Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrooms (double, twin), sleeps 4/5 plus cot

Welcome to Tulach, from the Gaelic meaning “hill”. Tulach is a detached cedar wood chalet-style cottage with two bedrooms - a double and a twin. A single fold-out bed is available, and a small double sofa bed can be made available. The cosy living room benefits from an open fire, double aspect picture windows, comfy sofa, wifi, TV with satellite channels, DVD - you will find a selection of DVDs and books with a Scottish theme. There is also a sun room in which to enjoy a cool drink and the kitchen includes a dishwasher, microwave and washing machine. Outside, there is a large garden with a table and chairs for al-fresco dining, including BBQs - a BBQ and picnic blankets are available. Children are very welcome, and hopefully they will spot some red squirrels in the garden! With our extensive local knowledge of the area, we can also offer suggestions and ideas to help you make the most of your stay. Visit Scotland 3 stars grading.

We are now in our fourth season and have really enjoyed welcoming guests to our cosy cottage, set in a truly fantastic location with glorious scenery and newly opened up lovely views to the west. We have tried to ensure that the cottage is well equipped and welcoming. Most of the furniture is new and we have tried to include some special touches, including plenty of tartan. You will even find a set of antlers in the living room! A welcome pack of essentials to get you going is provided, something we have always appreciated on our own travels. The wildlife in the garden can be quite exciting at times, but usually friendly - we have seen deer and red squirrels as well as many grouse and pheasants. Our guests have reported many sightings!

The immediate surroundings are gorgeous - try a quick walk up the road and revel in the views. There is a river close to the house (across the road and down a little) and you can walk around here too but please watch children carefully at all times as the water is fast flowing.

We are also very proud of our bespoke walking guide, prepared by my father who has scaled a very large number of the Munros in Scotland. To ensure a great day out, picnic blankets and picnic equipment are provided. We are now part of the Visit Scotland Walkers Welcome and Cyclists Welcome accreditation schemes.

Walking is not the only pursuit to enjoy here of course, and we will do our best to help you make the most of your stay. Or you may simply just want to relax in the house or garden. Don't forget to look up at the sky at night - you won't believe what you can see on a cloudless night from the garden!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Fabulous base, great weather and a breath-taking locale have left us all feeling decidedly Scottish! Many many thanks for everything, it was just what we needed and the photography and astronomy is to die for! Hopefully returning later in the year to this wee gem of a house. Many many thanks again.

Cosy cottage well situated for touring Central Scotland

  • 4 of 5
My wife and I stayed at Tulach for four days, and were pleased with the accommodations. Tulach is clean and tidy. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen has all the equipment you would need for a short stay. It is a great location to tour Central Scotland and there are decent places to eat close by. The only problem we encountered was the TV reception and WiFi connections were poor. If that gets corrected, we could recommend this place wholeheartedly.

Owner's Response: Thank you for this review and we are really glad you enjoyed your stay at Tulach. As explained to you on the phone during your stay, there was an issue with the local exchange affecting Wi-Fi connections for the entire Blair Atholl area - therefore affecting all properties in the area, not just Tulach. The telephone company has now addressed it and the Wi-Fi is working as normal again. We checked the TV and it is functioning as normal. Tulach’s rural location in the beautiful (and mountainous) Highlands of Scotland can affect television and radio reception from time to time and it seems this was the reason for the problem. At all events, we hope you found something enjoyable to watch from our Scottish-themed DVD collection. We are very sorry that you were unlucky during your stay and that these were matters beyond our control. Jennifer and Jonathan Watson

What a great break in breathtaking country

  • 4 of 5
We spent just a few days at Tulach in May but what a wonderful break. Gorgeous views and delightful cosy e spent We have just had a few days at Tulach in May but what a wonderful break. Gorgeous views and delightful cosy cottage. Thank you so much for the welcome goodies and essentials - just the ticket. And we loved the garden. So much to do in the area, lots of fantastic walks and Blair Castle is just down the road. We particularly enjoyed walking up the quiet Glen Fender road behind the cottage - just stunning up there. We will be back!

Lovely week away

  • 5 of 5
My partner and I spent four days in January at this cottage, on arrival we found a bottle of wine and two glasses set out which was really nice. There was also a welcome pack of tea, bread, milk sitting in the kitchen, it was great to have such a nice welcome. The cottage is well situated for exploring a lovely area of Scotland, far away enough from the main village to be quiet but close enough to walk down if you wanted. The cottage itself is very clean, well furnished and fully equipped with a nice fire in the living room for cold nights. The garden is large and we saw red squirrels on our first day there. We had no problems and everything in the cottage was great including the wi-fi connection. We would definitely visit again and recommend it as a nice base for exploring and walking around in Perthshire.

Etape Caledonia Weekend

  • 4 of 5
This accommodation was perfect for our group who took part in the Etape Caledonia but would equally be ideal for a walking holiday, Of special note was the welcoming bottle of wine, kindling and logs for the fire, a comfy and cosy living room with chairs/sofa with foot rests, great for relaxing after a long day cyclingwalking. There is a good selection of Scottish themed books including walking guides, a nice touch. I would stay here again. The nearby Athol Arms serves delicious food. Very helpful owner, clean and well maintained.

Tulach Review – 13th March, 2011

  • 5 of 5
Great little find! We have just spent a very enjoyable long weekend at Tulach. Pat and Eric, the owner’s parents, greeted us warmly and provided a tasty homemade quiche. That, plus the various items in the welcome pack (including beer), were extremely restorative after a long journey. Pat says that in the summer she hopes to provide fresh produce from her vegetable garden. Sounds wonderful! The house itself was tidy and clean, definitely cosy, and we really liked the tartan soft furnishings – it felt like a proper Highland cottage. At first glance, we were not sure if we were going to be warm enough as the wall heaters appeared to be limited and of a former era, but plenty of free standing heaters were provided and they quickly warmed the house up. The open fire in the living room also made a big difference - it was lovely and cosy in there. Although the kitchen is not fully fitted, it has new appliances and is well equipped.
The garden was especially lovely. In fact, we are planning to return in the summer so we can enjoy it fully. We spotted quite a few grouse and my son is convinced he saw a red squirrel. After admiring the views, we decided to head off on a short walk - fortunately, we had Eric’s walking guide to help us and we didn’t get lost for once!! There are various local excursions – ask the owners or Pat and Eric for ideas. One thing they suggested was driving north towards Aviemore - the A9 is not far so this is easy. The scenery is certainly spectacular on the drive north and we were able to spend a few interesting hours at the Kingussie Wildlife Park, getting to know some more extreme Highland wildlife. The kids had a ‘whale’ of a time.
We loved the location – seemingly remote but actually just a mile from Blair Atholl. It is really beautiful and tranquil up there. We will be back!

Tulach is in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Indoor and outdoor activities abound, including walking (see our personalised guide), golf, cycling, fishing, shooting, canoeing and more extreme sports such as white water rafting. Notes:
There is a good selection of books and DVDs in the living room (many with a Scottish theme). We provide a coal bucket and a basket of logs with kindling and fire lighters to get you going and enjoy a lovely open fire on arrival. We also leave a welcome pack of essentials (milk, butter, bread, tea, coffee, jam, biscuits) and a bottle of wine for our guests on arrival. We want you to settle in and relax quickly! Please do make use of our own bespoke walking guide and make use of the picnic blankets. A car is strongly recommended, because the last section of the road up from Blair Atholl is fairly steep - although fit and adventurous types will cope without. Please note that the access road from Blair Atholl is a single track (with passing places). The slope up to the front door of the house is a bit steep and in wet weather can be difficult for anyone who is infirm. There is no disabled access. However, for most people, access should not present any difficulties.
