Centrally located, clean, and comfortable

When we first arrived at this apartment, my husband and I were a little weary...the neighborhood looked a little gritty, and the door to the building looked kind of old and rundown. We braved the 3 story climb up a narrow, dimly-lit staircase, thinking maybe we had made the wrong choice. But as soon as the door opened, it was like stepping into an oasis! The apartment is very clean, and seems to have been recently renovated, with new, modern fixtures. The kitchen had everything we needed, including a kettle, a toaster, etc. The only thing it didn't have was a clothes washer, but I was able to wash a few things in the sink instead.
The location, although seemingly suspect at first, was actually ideal. It's a short walk to La Rambla and Barri Gotic, and the neighborhood where it's located (El Raval) has lots of interesting bars and restaurants in it's own right. You're also a short walk from the metro at either Universitat or Plaza Catalunya which will take you anywhere else you want to go in the city.
Judit, the woman who manages the apartment, was extremely nice and helpful, giving us great suggestions for places to eat and things to see.
The only thing that was possibly lacking was wi-fi. But, thankfully, there was an internet cafe not too far away that was really cheap (.50€/30 min), so when we needed to get on-line, we had that as an option.
We were extremely happy with our stay at this apartment, and would recommend it to friends as well.
