Eira is the most recent appartment (totally renovated in 2008). It is situated in the main house (ground floor) and comprises two bedrooms with two en-suite bathrooms. Living room with woodburning stove and TV (satellite). Modern and fully fitted kitchen. Outside, the traditional 'eira' (threshing-floor in granite) and the old 'espigueiro' (granary). Just beside the swimming pool.

Vinha is a very large and independent appartment in the main house (renovated in 2007), with three comfortable bedrooms and two bathrooms (one en-suite, one shared). Cosy living room with TV (satellite), balcony and woodburning stove and a very large dining room with fireplace and fully fitted kitchen. Central heating. Outside, a private area with private garden close to the swimming pool with the mountains in background. In Vinha you really feel the atmosphere of an old farmhouse with its thick granite walls and large areas.

Superb

We are a three family group who have been enjoying family holidays in rural France, Spain, Italy and Portugal for 15 years, and Cuqueira is the first place we have returned to having been there before in 2011, Cuqueira stood out from all others. The house (Eira) is a beautifully converted granary, a sensitive blend of the original rough granite with modern white walls and dark wood - spacious, well-equipped and spotless. The house has a large terrace just outside. The pool area is shared by the three houses (and one small apartment) and is exceptionally good - the pool is larger than usual and is set in an expanse of lawn. All three houses have their own outdoor space and garden area - the gardens are lovely and maintained very well. The villlage (Mosteiro) and the town (Vieira do Mino) are both an easy walk (with footpaths) with a range of cafes and restaurants (Pancada in Mosteiro does a great "no choice" feast and Sandrui Bar in Vieira has great pizza - great steak everywhere. Prices are very low). This is a very unspoilt part of Portugal but no shortage of things to do: plenty of historic towns to visit and fantastic hiking country. Nice swimming at Ermal dam, rock pools at Portela do Homem on the Spanish border and the Roman Bridge near Agra and water activities and swimming at Canicada dam, and a good water park at Amarante. The historic town of Braga & Guimares as well as Bom Jesus and other historic sites are also within 30 mins drive. The owners of Cuqueira are very helpful and completely unobtrusive. Top marks all round.
