The new links between Knock and Girona (Barcelona), Hahn (Frankfurt), Bergamo (Milan) and Beauvais (Paris) will bring to 14 the number of Ryanair routes flying to and from Ireland West Airport.
Ryanair adding to their extensive services into Ireland from March 2012.
It will now be possible to fly from the above departure points directly in to Knock Airport. Knock is approx 60 mins drive to Cuach Cottage.
Interesting 'Cuach Cottage': Constructed from local stone using local skills and dry bedding technique. Some internal walls are 3 ft. wide whilst others are 2 ft.
It has a conventional pitched slated roof which is now highly insulated.
To the rear, their remains the shell of a stone constructed sheep's pen. Livestock would have been housed close to the dwelling in bygone days.
The fireplace is 'inglenook' type, however, this has been converted to suit a woodburning stove. In days gone by all family meals were cooked over this fireplace.
Local harvested turf was the only source of fuel . The turf fire would sit directly on the floor in traditional manner using all the skills necessary to maintain it lighting 24 hours per day. Most homesteads had their own plot of bogland. Plots till exist to this day.
We have installed a hand crafted entrance door, 1/2 by 1/2 last year made by a local craftsman, thanks Pat.
Interior fixtures, some from Count De Vesci's estate are present in 'Cuach Cottage'
- non smoking only

About Liam or Marian Young
Pic. taken March 2014 Gurteen Beach, near Roundstone. Liam & Marian from Dublin and now residing in Co. Wexford, on the East Coast of Ireland purchased this beautiful vernacular cottage in 2009. We have holidayed in Connemara since we were little children, many moons ago! Marian actually did the Donkey Derby, year on year in Roundstone, a nearby village of great natural beauty. This is our away from home piece of heaven, which we cherish and now love to share with visitors.
We operate a retail business in Gorey, Co. Wexford. See f. thestoreroomgorey. Visiting this site will reveal a lot about our ethos. Marian's eye for detail is everywhere to be seen. Enjoy !

Why Liam or Marian Young chose Connemara
'Les Lacs du Connemara' Michel Sardou !! Cuach cottage has loads of history and was originally thatched. It stands on 4 acres of Connemara terrain, has a beautiful fresh water river running alongside, which is full of trout / salmon in season. From our rustic garden seat you can view the Otter, Mink, Badger, Cuckoo, [ April - June ] and all the while the majestic 12 Ben Mountain Range forming the backdrop. We are in an idealic location, beside some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, yet right in the heart of Connemara.
If you want to get away from it all this is positively it !
Paul Henry and sister Grace Henry painted many of their most famous works literally from our front garden !!!
Its been our pleasure to hosted many dignitaries, Lords & Ladies, and family guests in recent years, literally travelling from all corners of the world, They have found 'Cuach Cottage' to be an absolute delight, simple yet all embracing !
What makes this cottage unique
We have our own fresh water well, essential in Connemara !! Our cottage stands on 4 acres of Connemara Terrain which has been designated an area of special beauty and is therefore protected and preserved under Irish Government Warrant IE SPA. The garden areas are fenced off into many paddocks. Connemara ponies and sheep graze closeby.
Turning left out of our cottage gate you will find some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Nothing but beautiful Connemara terrain for 13 Kilometers, just amazing mooreland and lake district and then Ballynahinch Castle for that must have luncheon !! Enjoy Liam & Marian.
We are away from everything yet close to the Capital Town of Clifden, 4 Kilometers to Supermarkets, Fine Dining, Theatre, indeed everything you could wish for.
Cuach Cottage is quiet and peaceful, yet if you need assistance it is within easy reach.
