Carrigacat is a welcoming, comfortable, warm 3 bedroom renovated farmhouse & a games room in the barn. Ideal for a holiday with friends or family. Children welcome and suitable for seniors. It looks out towards Barleycove, a fabulous sandy beach & the Atlantic Ocean, which surrounds us on three sides.Mizen Head, Ireland’s most south westerly point, has a beautiful rugged landscape of accessible mountains, cliffs, sandy beaches, small rocky fields & friendly villages. The house is surrounded by rocky fields with abundant wild flowers and almost an acre of lawn edged with escallonia and fuchsia giving plenty of space for children to play. Although it is only 4 km from Goleen village, it seems to be in a world of its own. Carrigacat is a traditional West Cork farmhouse with 2’ stone walls; restored, retaining much of its original character; it is simply furnished with all mod cons, a fitted kitchen in house. 1 bathroom with shower and extra WC downstairs in house, 1 shower and WC in adjacent cottage, 1 WC in barn, orthopaedic beds, dining room, spacious lounge with open fire, Freeview TV. FreeWifi available in Goleen at The Heron's Cove.
Carricagat is ideal for families, extended families and groups of friends. There is a great feeling of space - very different from houses and apartments in the city. You can be yourself and not have to care what the neighbours think! Any amount of partying or children's play will be absorbed by the countryside. In the summer the terrace is ideal for barbeques or a party while the garden is a large expanse of mown grass edged by fuchsia, escallonia, brambles, heather and furze ideal for games and hide and seek. Although Carrigacat seems in a world of its own a five minute trip in the car takes you down to the stunning Barleycove Beach, Stony Beach, Cockle Strand and Chimney Strand. Another 5 minutes takes you to the cosmopolitan village, Crookhaven or the village caught in time, Goleen. The Mizen peninsula has world class scenery with cliffs, sandy beaches and small villages. None more spectacular than Mizen Head with the outstanding visitor attraction, Mizen Head Signal Station.
Welcome to Carrigacat (It is pronounced Carrigahat from Carraig na Ghat 'the rock of the cat', probably a polecat in olden times.) We hope you enjoy your stay. If you need assistance, I am in The Heron’s Cove B&B and Restaurant in the harbour in Goleen. We have free wifi there for you.
Sue Hill purchased this farmhouse in 1969
This property is a traditional West Cork farmhouse and outhouses. It has been renovated by local tradesmen several times over the last 44 years, but it retains many of the old features. We have had so many happy times in Carrigacat. It is ideal for a family holiday. My own family love to bring their friends and their children there for an annual get together. What a party!
Wonderful clear views of the night sky, without any light pollution. The garden/field is ideal for football and games that need plenty of space. The barn with its table tennis table makes rainy days fun. You can make much noise as you like - there's no one close enough to mind. A south facing house it is rarely necessary to close the front door in any weather. It's an ideal house for a party.
