A stay in any of our three traditional Mani homes offers our guests a unique experience in holiday home rental. As a result of our own extensive travel experiences we have made every effort to furnish our houses as if they were homes, rather than a rental facility.

Villa Sofia is a spacious house located in the middle of the village only 100m from Stoupa's main beach. The house is situated in a 1900 sq m garden. Designed in 1973 by an award winning architect, it is built of stone, bricks, tile and wood. The living and dining area spans the entire width of the house. It is furnished with a blend of modern and antique furnishings, creating a homey atmosphere. The fully equipped kitchen opens toward both the living area and a large covered veranda offering beautiful sea views and al fresco dining.

The veranda offers access to the two bedrooms through french doors. The large entrance area has an office area with wireless internet and large windows overlooking a garden.

Stoupa Village: The three beaches of Stoupa are all very close to Villa Sofia. Two of the beaches have very fine sand. The third beach, Halikoura, has small pebbles and is an ideal place for snorkeling. All three are child friendly because of the shallow waters near the shore. Umbrellas and sunbeds are available for rental at daily or weekly rates. There are some cafes just off the beaches that offer cold drinks and light meals for lunch. Kayaks and pedaloes can be rented from either Stoupa or Kalogria beach. Small motor boats are also available for rental on Stoupa beach. Because Stoupa is a small village, everything is within an easy walk. In addition to the cafes, you will find numerous restaurants, fine gift shops, a rental shop where you can rent anything from fans to bicycles, and a pharmacy. For more adventurous souls, cars, motor scooters, and bicycles can also be rented in town.

Excursions: Stoupa is in the middle of a very beautiful area. Along the coast, there are several other charming villages to visit, (Kardamili, Agios Nikolaos, Agios Dimitrios, and Trachila). Each is unique and all are well worth a visit. There is a paved path along the coastline between Stoupa and Agios Nikolaos. It is specifically for either pedestrian or bicycle use, and is about 2 km in length. It offers wonderful sea views with a mountain background.

In a distance of 4-18 km. from Stoupa, there are lovely mountain villages to explore that take you back in time to 50 years ago. Most of them have a small taverna or two where you can stop and enjoy dishes prepared with local products. There are two separate loops that can be driven. Each of them passes through several villages and you can take anywhere from one hour to all day to complete your journey.

Stoupa is a coastal village in the unspoiled Mani region. The village is built around three bays, two of which have sand beaches that are among the most beautiful on the Mani Peninsula. They are well suited for families because of the shallow waters near the shore. The third bay has a pebble beach, and is ideal for snorkeling. Paddle boats, kayaks, and small motor boats are available for rental. Motorcycles, bicycles and cars are also available for rental in the village. The village is set amongst olive groves with the Taygetos Mountains rising to the east. The climate is mild in winter, possibly the warmest in continental Europe. Stoupa is within easy reach of a 24 hour medical centre (2 km), and one hour from the major city of Kalamata.

Lovely time in Stoupa at Villa Sofia

We had a very positive experience at Villa Sofia. From the moment we contacted the owners ( Tracy and Takis), they were extremely friendly and helpful with all the information we needed.
The house is very charming and well looked after. It catered perfectly for our needs. It is not just a holiday rental home but where people live and that made a huge difference in terms of the comfort, household equipment and feeling at ease. We stayed there for 3 weeks with our children aged 8-12 who could just walk on their own to the beach without having to cross any roads or having to walk more than 200 metres. There are several beeches within very easy walking distance; some a bit busy during the period we were there, but we found one behind some rocks that was lovely, quite private but close to restaurant/bar (with a very friendly waitress who would bring us drinks and food at lunch time).
The area around Stoupa is beautiful. There is a very dramatic combination of mountains and see right next to each other. The sea was exactly what you see in tourist brochures of Greece with blue and turquoise water. There are several small villages to visit in the area with little tavernas serving good food. Altogether, we had a lovely time and would recommend this house to other people wishing to have a quiet relaxed time with their children or on their own.
