Overview

Gubbio Villa Rental Photos and Description

4 beds, 3 en suite, sitting room and eat in kitchen, pool and barbecue area

8 K from the beautiful Medieval town Of Gubbio and perched 2000ft up a hill looking towards the Appenine mountains and Mt Accuto, lies Poderetto, a 17th century restored stone farmhouse. The height of the house above sea level means that the summer temperature is less fierce and the nights are pleasantly cool. The extensive, artist and architect owned and designed, conversion of the building and surrounding land has just been completed affording a very comfortable home with 12x6m swimming pool and barbecue area. The house has 4 bedrooms, 3 en suite, all having large bathtubs, showers, bidets, toilets and 2 wash hand basins; The master bedroom also, as well as a bath, has a separate shower and basin. There is a large well equipped eat -in kitchen with gas CH. and hob, electric oven, fridge freezer, washer/drier and dishwasher. On the first floor is a large double height sitting room with two contemporary sofas, TV and video and traditional open fireplace. All the rooms are spacious.

Gubbio: This ancient Umbrian stronghold and renowned ceramics center is like the last outpost of civilization before the wilderness of the high Apennines. The central piazza cantilevers over the lower town like a huge terrace. The square is bounded on one end by a mighty palace, all sharp stone lines and squared-off battlements. Inside is a cluttered archaeological museum and the same echoey medieval atmosphere that pervades the entire town. Gubbio is unique among hill towns -- an antique center unto itself, to which surprisingly few visitors venture.

Nearby is Monte Cucco Natural Park:

This is a predominantly mountainous park, featuring at the higher altitudes, beechwoods and pasture land, with rocky cliffs and picturesque gorges. Monte Cucco (1566 metres above sea level) is known also for one of the most important karstic cave systems in Italy, partly open to visits. It is ideal for sports, such as: canyoning, trekking by horse, bike and by foot, paragliding and caving.

Short drives away are the beautiful frescoes by Giotto in Assisi,The magnificent Piero della Francescas in Arezzo, Monterchi and San Sepolcro. The hill towns of Perugia, the city of infinite views according to Henry James, Spello, Orvieto, Todi, Montefalco Spoleto and Urbino the birthplace of Raphael. These are just a few of the the easy excursions you can make, if you can drag yourself away from the house and the swimming pool!

A gem!

  • 5 of 5

The Poderetto property is a unique blend of a comfortable, modern and stylish interior, housed in a postcard-perfect centuries old farm house surrounded by ample grounds and a pool. Its location is, at once, remote (set in a valley of working farms and wooded hills), while not being too distant from Gubbio, Perugia and other cultural/architectural gems. Our two week stay consisted of morning hikes in the various nearby mountain nature reserves, lunching in Gubbio (with Bosone Gardens as the favorite) and spending afternoons around the pool. As other guests have discovered, the restaurant at the bottom of the hill makes excellent and affordable pizzas. Local manager Colin and his charming wife could not have been more helpful. An ideal spot for a 'family and friends' vacation!

An amazing house with stunning wiews

  • 5 of 5

We spent almost two fantastic weeks in Villa Poderetto. Wonderful house and the surroundings where breathtaking. It was the perfect place for us (four adults and two children), with a superb pool and close to some of the most interesting cities and sites of the region. The house was a true match to its description, perfectly situated in the heart of Umbria.

The house was spacious, , with plenty of rooms to get some privacy

The bedrooms were large and had attached shower / toilet. Nice spacious kitchen.

Jack was extremely helpfull, he quickly replied to all the questions. Colin, the house caretaker is a English gentleman who gave us information and helped us during our stay.

An example of how we spent a wonderful day at and around Villa Poderetto.

Breakfast and lunch at the pool with stunning views. The pictures don´t really describe how beautiful it is, and the environment is very qiuet

A trip to Fano with swimming in the sea and then eat dinner at one of many excellent fish restaurants

...or a trip to Arezzo with wonderful frescoes of Piero della Francesca, inside San Francesco Church

...or a trip to Asissi if you want to see the amazing frescoes by Giotto

All this can be reached with less than one hour's drive.

Gubbio:

Cable car Funivia is a must!

Restaurant Picchio Verde – one of our favorites. The food is amazing, the staff exceptionally friendly and the atmosphere varm and welcomig.

Restaurant Ulisse e Letizia - another favorite, nice, friendly and of very high class

A gnocchi formaggio, which one could die for.

Even the restaurant below the hill is well worth a visit, where many of the local people go to eat, which is very nice

Pam Supermarket, only 10 minutes drive.

The house was a true gem and the location was perfect. We can highly recommend Villa Poderetto for those looking for peace and quiet, yet close to a lot of attractions.

Thanks Jack and Colin, for a very nice accommodating

Owner's Response: Thank you families Nilsson, Lindman and Andersson for your very comprehensive and positive review. As owners and creators of the house it's always nice to know that guests have had an enjoyable and relaxing holiday. That is what we work towards and it gives us, as well, great pleasure and satisfaction that people enjoy the house and it's surroundings as much as we do. You are right AnnaMaria that the photos don't really describe how beautiful the place is and that is something I must try and put right, although while photos can give you a one dimensional view of a place, they can never replace the actual ever changing scene, the sense of scale, the freshness of the air and that spirit of place. Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review. The landscape is indeed amazing, home to deer, wild boar, and many species of birds, including falcons, nesting in the walls of the house, eagles and many other birds, too many to mention.

Beautiful holiday home

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay here. The house is beautiful, comfortable and very well-equipped. We stayed for a fortnight and spent much of our time relaxing by the pool, enjoying the fantastic views. We enjoyed visiting Gubbio - especially the cage funicular - and also Urbino and Perugia. Several good restaurants in Gubbio but we would also recommend the pizza at the restaurant at the bottom of the hill.

As well as ‘the most beautiful Medieval town in Europe’ Gubbio, with it’s bars and restaurants and shops selling the traditional local crafts of pottery and ironwork and the very colourful Corse dei Ceri which takes place every year on the 15th May, there are many of Italy’s historic towns, churches and sites of artistic interest within short drives. It is 25mls from Perugia, 35 miles from the birthplace of Raphael, Urbino, 100 miles from Rome (2 ½ h by car ) 18 miles to Assisi, and many other important sites, such as Arezzo, Monterchi and San Sepulchro with their wonderful Piero dela Francesco paintings. There is an abundance of animal and bird life to be seen around the house, with eagles and buzzards soaring overhead and in the Spring and early summer, a family of falcons nesting above the front door. The coast at Fano is a short drive away(about 45 min.) with many delightful beaches nearby.

There are daily flights to Ancona 50 min and Perugiia, 30 min drive away.
