The Old Ration Shop is a newly refurbished cottage for two. White and bright, stylish and contemporary with Farrow and Ball colours, designer fabrics and a good mix of old and modern complemented with original art, plus all the mod cons for a comfortable year round holiday. Views are of farmland, cliffs and sea glimpses beyond. The South West coastal path is nearby offering beautiful walks in both directions passing fabulous beaches and overlooking the bluest of seas. The Halzephron Inn (twice best in Cornwall 2001 & 2005) is a short stroll away with it's popular restaurant, as is the newly opened Barefoot Kitchen Cafe and shop situated at the top of the Halzephron Cliffs with panoramic views over Mounts Bay and Fishing Cove.

The Old Ration Shop is arranged over two floors and is attached on one side to the owners cottage. There is a private enclosed Mediterranean style garden.

Gunwalloe is a small former fishing village located on the Lizard Peninsular on the coast between Porthleven and Mullion. It's a haven for walkers, surfers, bird watchers and beachcombers. This area has much to offer. Beautiful beaches, picturesque fishing villages and spectacular scenery. Cornwall has many beautiful gardens notably Heligan and The Eden Project, both an hour away. Falmouth is our closest large town (20 minutes) with it's Maritime history and museum. St Ives, home of Tate Modern and numerous galleries and restaurants is 40 minutes away. The Old Ration Shop is well positioned to explore most of Cornwall.

    To book accommodation please telephone or email us. A 30% non refundable deposit will confirm your reservation. The balance of your reservation is payable six weeks before the arrival date. If booking is within the 6 week period the whole amount is payable. If you cancel your holiday after you have paid the full amount, we will only reimburse you if we are able to re-let the accommodation (less your deposit).
    We strongly advise you to take out holiday insurance in case of cancellation.
  • Depending on the booking for the previous week we can sometimes be flexible on changeover days, but it would normally be Friday or Saturday.

Immaculate and well equipped holiday cottage in a great location. Ideal for a peaceful relaxing break.
The coastal path is within a few minutes walk from the cottage and we took advantage of this to walk direct from the cottage to both Mullion & Porthleven.
Also right on the dooorstep for all the other walks, fantastic beaches and villages on the Lizard, particularly Kynance Cove & Coverack. Great seafood restaurant at The Lifeboat House, Coverack.
Amanda & Ian are lovely hosts. We loved the cream tea on arrival and the half dozen eggs with brilliant yellow yolks, made fantastic scrambled eggs.
Lovely cottage to come back to at the the end of a day in the fresh Cornish air.

Perfect hideaway in a peaceful location. Luxuriously decorated cottage that catered for our every need. The hosts provided everything for a comfortable stay, the outdoor space was more than adequate for enjoying a quiet well deserved glass of wine! We only wish we'd stayed long enough to meet the hens! A place to return to again and again.

Long Weekend in Gunwalloe

We stayed at The Old Ration Shop for a long weekend in February. The property was spotlessly clean and very well equipped and has a lovely "beach house" feel with painted wooden floors throughout. The bed was wonderfully comfortable and upstairs the sitting room was cosy. We had our own garden cleverly screened from the owners, with mature olive tree and table and chairs. A wonderful spot for a glass of wine on a summer evening - or even a February evening! Within a 10 minute walk is the local pub which is a great place to sit and watch the sunset, as well as serving good pub grub. Also within 10 minutes walk is the coastal path and a lovely long sandy beach(Fishing Cove) from where you can - as we did - walk to Porthleven for lunch. At the end of the road is Church Cove - another great beach - and a golf course. What more could you want, sun and sand for the girls and golf for the boys!

Amanda and Ian were very welcoming and knowledgable about the area and suggested many walks and places to visit. They were very discreet and most of the time we were never aware of them next door.

Such a shame we were only there for a short time. Will definitely be back for a longer stay in the summer.
