Delightful fully renovated apartment 500 meters from the Coliseum

Overall it was a great location and we had a wonderful trip. The apartment would have been a 5 star but there were a few drawbacks.

THE GOOD:
10 minute walk to the Colosseum and the metro
7 Minute walk to the main grocery store
There is a small store a block away for a small selection of basic food, fresh fruit, and vegetables
There is a small but pleasant playground for kids about 7 minutes away

The place was clean and the pictures on the website are accurate. We were a family of 4 and there was extra room. Our contact person via email was not the person that met us at the apartment. He was on time and pleasant, but we had to ask specific questions to find out any information about the area (grocery store, metro, restaurants). He was more helpful then most HomeAway owners we have had in the past, but we didn't find him as helpful as other reviews mentioned.
We did a lot of cooking and the kitchen was adequate.
The two bedrooms are at opposite ends of the apartment. This would be great for friends who want privacy. We could stay up late without waking our kids but they were initially scared to sleep so far from us.

THE NO SO GOOD:
The apartment is on what appears to be a quiet street, but the windows are so old you hear everything that happens outside. The first bedroom and the living room (pull out couch) are on the street side and second bedroom on the inner courtyard. The inner bedroom doesn't get direct sunlight but it is silent. We never heard any other tenants in the building.
There were friends saying goodbye on the sidewalk one night but I thought they were in our bedroom. We bought earplugs and things were much better. We still heard a few of the loud sounds. Parking is a big problem on the street, so there were cars double parked. On Sunday morning at 7:30am someone honked the horn on and off for 10 minutes until the car that was blocking him in moved. The glass recycling is picked up twice a week in the middle of the night. Earplugs didn't help those situations.
We were there in the winter and it was a little cold with the tile floors and the heat went off for a few hours each night. In the summer it would probably be great to be in a cool apartment.
There is an elevator in the building but the entrance is halfway up the first flight of stairs. That would be a problem for some elderly, wheelchairs or strollers. The apartment is up one flight of stairs which was no problem for us.
