Villefranche-sur-Mer Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Sea view, short walk to beach and restaurants, 1 bedroom apartment in old town

'Le Phare' is a chic south facing apartment located in the heart of Villefranche Old Town overlooking the exquisite bay of Villefranche and fronts onto a peaceful and charming square. The apartment comprises 1 bedroom, bathroom, fully fitted open plan kitchen and lounge/dining room - all of which are decorated to an impeccably high standard with a classic/contemporary feel and where you can expect to find all of your home comforts. The apartment is situated steps away from an array of shops (bakery, butchers, greengrocers, tabac), restaurants, art galleries and a few minutes gentle stroll to the beautiful beach. The village benefits from a market selling fruit, veg, bread, oil, olives, cheese, herbs and flowers. The position of the apartment boasts vast amounts of natural sun light perpetuating stunning views over the terracotta roof tops stretching across the bay to the lighthouse on the headland of Cap Ferrat. It is a perfect location for those attending the Institut de Francais.

The apartment has a 'boutique/shabby chic' feel about the place, with its white washed walls, colourful soft furnishings, stylish french furniture collection and elegant finishing touches. It has all of the home comforts you would expect and truly feels like a home away from home.

The floors are tiled throughout with terracotta floor tiles apart from the bathroom which has slate tiled flooring. Down lights are fitted throughout and upvc windows provide good security and extra warmth when required.

Local artworks adorn the walls which add a touch of class, colour and ambience to the place.

The library collection is ever growing thanks to all our guests and provides a varied read of fiction, non fiction, travel writing and recipe books.

There is a comfy large white double seated sofa, 32 inch Samsung HD tv, white round dining table, four white very comfortable dining chairs, tall reading lamp, together with small lamps. Additional seating and storage is provided by a wooden chest which is strategically positioned by the window so you can enjoy a glass of wine whilst reading a book or simply enjoying the view over the rooftops to the glistening Mediterranean.

The contemporary style kitchen blends perfectly with the large wooden beams that straddle through the apartment and the rest of the home furnishings. The work surfaces are tiled and perfectly match the provencal theme. The appliances consist of an electric ceramic hobb, electric fan assisted oven and extractor fan. A stainless steel electric kettle and toaster are provided, for the coffee lover there is a cafetiere, expresso maker and an Nespresso coffee machine and for the cook there is an array of herbs and spices to choose from.

A washing machine is provided for all those laundry requirements.

Absolutely beautiful

  • 4 of 5
Le Phare is indeed a lovely property, dreamy almost in the beautiful way Louise has decorated it. For all our travels and many vacation rentals this one was perhaps the prettiest. Booking was easy, getting the key was easy and the propery is as lovely if not lovelier than the photos. The only comments I would share are more just observations rather than criticisms, the kitchen is well stocked with bits that everyone has left behind which was an absolute bonus, however you will need to bring a stock of the essentials such toilet tissue, paper towels, dish soap etc. not an issue but can be quite annoying to buy full supplies which you will never use in a town that is already quite expensive. There is no dishwasher or microwave. Be ready for stairs! Lots in this town including going up to the apartment! Meaning just getting luggage there is a bit of a hassle if you have a lot (we did as we here for three months). Although there's a picture of a little bistro table, it is not really a true outdoor space, just a table that can be placed on the street outside the apartment - although it overlooks a lovely square that is just as nice to sit in. And the previous reviews about the bells :) they were not exaggerating! The church is outside your door and I have never heard to many bells for so long starting at 7 am. If you're an early riser this will be more amusing than anything, fortunately for me, Louise has a huge supply of fluffy pillows to hide my head under! Villefranche is a lovely bustling town with easy access to Nice - we actually walked in a few times and then took the bus back! The beach is nice and Louise has thought of everything for you to pack up and spend a few hours enjoying watching the cruise ships come in or go for a swim. All in all we absolutely loved our stay and give Louise top marks for creating such an idyllic home. Like any vacation rental, if it is as it is represented, then you can feel comfortable in your choice to go there, this one certainly is! Thanks Louise, best regards, Debra and Noel

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review and your lovely comments about Le Phare. I would like to let any future renters know that basic essentials are provided including toilet paper and kitchen roll although if you do run out you will need to replenish them (which is no different to most apartments). With regard to the stairs there are only 12 steps (with handrail) up to the apartment once inside the building. They are not steep and are no different to stairs in most homes. There are many apartment buildings in the Old Town where there are considerably more steps which are much steeper. The church bells are a lovely feature of the village which date back centuries. They can be heard wherever you stay in the Old Town and can barely be heard at all if the double glazed windows are closed.

A perfect stay in every way!

  • 5 of 5
Le Phare is a beautifully equipped apartment in the historic heart of Villefranche. It overlooks a lovely square where the people of the village gather to read or converse. Because no cars are allowed in this part of the village, it is very quiet. The apartment is perfect for a couple, with plenty of closet space, a cozy kitchen and dining area, and a very comfortable bedroom.

And talk about no hassles...We flew into Nice from JFK, and were picked up by a driver who had been referred to us by the owner. From the moment we arrived, we never had to worry about anything. We did not need a rental car, as the apartment is within walking distance of everything - from beautiful beaches to fabulous restaurants. And the village is peaceful and reminiscent of the way the south of France used to be. We will be back!

Relaxing holiday in beautiful setting.

  • 5 of 5
This is a lovely apartment which I would highly recommend. As mentioned in previous reviews, beach towels, a beach mat, brolly and cool box were all available for our use. The apartment is located near restaurants, shops and the beach. There is no conditioning which probably isn’t a huge issue most of the year but we were there in the height of summer so it was very hot at night – the fans and ice packs wrapped in towels helped though!

Great Apartment In Villefranche

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I spent a week in this well equipped apartment. It has everything one needs. It is centrally located and easy to get to. Trains and buses are close by so excursions to other places such as Monaco or Eze-Le-Village are a snap. We even ventured into Italy to Ventimiglia to take in the Friday Market. There are many restaurants close by, a couple of boulangeries, fresh fruit and vegetable vendors, butcher and convenience stores close by. There are many interesting shops to explore. The beach was great, and only a short walk from the apartment. Too bad we only had a week!
The apartment is as described on the website.

Gorgeous apartment. Home away from Home!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I spent just one glorious week at "Le Phare" VSM. It really was a home away from home, and just as the website describes and shows. The apartment is excellent, very clean and has everything one could wish for. Louise and Daniel are very easy to contact in case of need and it was wonderful to have Laure meet us and show us to the apartment initially.
The apartment is very well located and is quiet. There are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance, and the trains and buses are also very easy to get to, so visiting nearby towns is very easy.
We would certainly stay here again.

Central beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5
Just returned from stay in '' Le Phare'' VSM.
The listing was exactly as described. The facilities were excellent and the apartment had many extra features that we had not expected. The accomodation was very central to shops, restaurants, beach, travel connections.
The property was very clean and well maintained. Both Louise and Laure looked after us from our first contact and were very prompt with all queries.
I would recommend this property to any one wishing to visit the area.
Hope to return in the future.

13th Century Villefranche Sur Mer is a picture perfect French fishing village lying east of Nice that has retained its historical charm, with its medieval cobbled streets filled with pots of beautiful plants, flowers, hidden passageways, colourful Italian architecture and leafy sun dappled squares. There are many steps in the Old Town so if you have difficulty walking you need to bear this in mind. Living among such surroundings within the heart of the Old Town makes it simple to sync into village life and feel like a local. The ancient Citadel St Elmo is renowned for its museums, manicured gardens and open air theatre. The Citadel holds a prominent position overlooking the main square of the Old Town where you will find an abundance of vibrant cosmopolitan cafes and restaurants - the perfect place for an aperitf at night or by day a browse around the flea/antiques market. La Rue Obscure is the oldest street in VSM and to this day you will still find a network of passageways with dimly lit arched ceilings and doorways. (U2 filmed a music video in the famous street a few years ago). The glorious beach (Plage des Marinieres) stretches for 1km and is renowned for being one of the best between Nice and Italy. The Rade de Villefranche is a huge, natural protected harbour which means its a great spot to swim, dive or snorkel. If you enjoy sunbathing or simply people watching you can enjoy the international scene on the beach or kick back and indulge with a chilled rose in one of the beach cafes. Public transport links to VSM are excellent, reliable and very reasonably priced, so trips to nearby attractions to the surrounding towns and villages of Beaulieu, St Jean, Eze, La Turbie, Monaco, Grasse, Cannes, Antibes and St Paul De Vence are easily accessible. Nice is only a 10 minute journey on the bus where you can stroll, roller skate, jog or cycle (bleu velo bike hire available) down the infamous Promenade des Anglais, visit the Cours Saleya or park Le Chateau. If you have the benefit of a car you can easily reach Gourdon, Roya Valley, Valbonne, Aix en Provence, Cassis, Calanaques, St Tropez or head to the Italian hot spots of Portafino, Cinque Terra , Pisa, Lucca, Florence and Sienna all of which are drivable within a few hours. The islands of Corsica and Sardinia can be reached via ferry from the Port of Nice or by air from Nice Airport.
