Overview

Waterville Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedroom 3 Bathroom One En-suite Oil & Solid Fuel Heating Combined Sleeps 6

The Farmhouse has a modern spacious eat-in kitchen which boasts a typical Irish peat / log burning solid fuel stove which creates a tranquil cosy atmosphere and simultaneously heats the other rooms also. From the kitchen and bedrooms located on the upper floor you can enjoy breath taking views of Ballinskelligs Bay and on a clear day the 'Statue of Liberty' in New York might be possible if you could see far enough.

The heating system incorporates oil and solid fuel which is designed to work simultaneously or one system at a time.

There is a spacious hot press which can be used for airing / storing additional clothing. The benefits of a stone constructed house are that on a warm sunny summers day the house is cool while in winter the house is much warmer than a block built house.

The County Kerry region: The warm influence of the Gulf Stream which passes off the coast has a very positive and pleasant effect on our climate all year round and is home to a sub -tropical vegetation. We never get extremes in temperature either in winter or summer which makes it a very pleasant part of the country to live in.

There are numerous places of both historical and scenic locations to visit in the area.

Daniel O Connell's house in Derrynane, stone fort's, old castle's, Skellig's Rock, Killarney National Park & Muckross House, Arts Centre 'Cill Rialaig,' and Crag Cave Castleisland are just some of the big attractions in the area.

The biggest attraction of all being the breathtaking views from the famous 'Ring of Kerry' which is renowned for its beauty and rugged landscape. It is a natural wonderland of forest, blanket bog, river, lake, sandy beach and hill, including Ireland's highest peak, 'Corran Tuathail'.

The Dingle Peninsula is also renowned for it's rugged beauty and it was here that the film 'Ryans Daughter' starring Robert Mitchum was made. Slea Head which is located at the far end of the peninsula has some breathtaking scenery to offer.

So what's so special about Kerry? - What sets it apart from other holiday destinations? Well, for a start it has all the essential ingredients; great scenery, genuinely friendly people, lots to do and see, the highest standard of accommodation and numerous first class restaurants. However, it's the things that are unique to Kerry that make it such a popular visitor destination, such as its ancient history, its rich culture, the rare flora and fauna and a genuine pride of place by its people.

Fantastic

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic, exhilarating, and “over the top” are just words. Those could not adequately describe this bucolic location.

There is a kaleidoscope of clouds over the mountains and Ballinskelligs Bay which are mesmerizing. Rainbows are a frequent occurrence which just add to the magic.

An endless variety of activities are available and the local Loher Stone Fort is a short walk from the front door.

Our stay of six weeks was not long enough.

Irish Charm and Hospitality

  • 5 of 5

Imagine the perfect Irish setting: green hillside to your back, scenic 180 degree ocean view, cool Atlantic breezes, a beautifully renovated farmhouse with a cozy peat fire and the most gracious hosts attending to your every holiday need. Tom and Sheila O’Shea’s Ardkearaugh.

Each morning we were greeted with spectacular ocean views and the sounds of sheep in the meadows. The farmhouse is private and secluded, but still convenient to Waterville groceries, pubs and local artisan’s shops. We spent our days exploring the Ring of Kerry, Dingle Peninsula, Valentia Island and soaking up the Irish countryside charm. Tom and Sheila were great hosts giving us tips on sightseeing, shopping (don’t miss the Skelligs Chocolate Factory), and the local history and color. Our every need was attended to including even finding person to take my father birding for the day.

We could not imagine a more perfect setting for an Irish holiday—nor better hosts!

Quiet place with beautiful sea view

  • 4 of 5

Quiet place but not isolated with beautiful sea view. Pleasant walks from the house

The house is in a very good state and very functional. We had it very clean. Towels and linen were present in large numbers. The household electrical appliances are very recent and complete. It is an ideal holiday home for four adults or a family with children. The owners live in town. They were helpful and available during all our stay.

The house is situated on the ring of Kerry and within a radius of a few kilometers you access to nice places as Lough Currane, the very beautiful view from Coomakista pass as well as gardens around Derrynane House besides famous sites a little further like Valencia Island or Dingle bay.

Wonderful holiday cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week here in a very well equipped and maintained holiday cottage. The owners Tom and Sheila went out of their way to accommodate us at very short notice and made sure we had everything we needed. Everything is provided in the cottage and it is spacious and very comfortable. The turf stove heated all the hot water we needed and made the cottage very cosy in the evening.

The view from the cottage is lovely and as well as being able to walk to the nearby beach, we could also enjoy the view of the coastline from the garden and the porch/conservatory.

The surrounding area is stunning, lovely beaches and views of the Ring of Kerry and we also enjoyed visiting the Dingle peninsula.

Thank you Tom and Sheila for a relaxing holiday.

Cosy and comfortable cottage, great location!

  • 5 of 5

We spent the first two weeks of August 2013 in this cosy and comfortable cottage which we warmly recommend to everyone. First of all, many thanks to the owners Sheila and Tom O Shea for their warm and cordial welcome and their helpfulness! We really enjoyed our holidays and we would have liked to stay much longer than two weeks. The location is beautiful and ideal for walking-tours, sea-bathing, fishing, sightseeing, etc. . We loved the breathtaking seaview and the homely peat fire in the evening. Though the cottage is situated amidst a calm and rural landscape, Waterville with its shops and restaurants is close (and don’t miss spending at least one evening at ‘The Blind Piper’ in Caherdaniel!).

The description of the house is accurate; the house is comfortable, tidy and very well equipped. Everything was included - from dishwasher soap to laundry detergent, linen, towels, etc. which is very important if you travel by plane.

Thank you Tom for your recommendations, especially the chocolate factory (yummy!) and for your fishing instructions - our fishing trip is one of our favourite memories, and we had a lot of fun!

If we come back to Ireland in a couple of years (and we will, that’s for sure!), we hope it will be possible to spend another unforgettable holiday in this perfect holiday home.

Waterville is located on the south west coast of Ireland and offers a variety of interests for all ages. If travelling on the famous Ring of Kerry you will pass through Waterville. In the past it has been frequented by many dignitaries from all over the world. Charlie Chaplin, the silent -movie comic, spent many years holidaying in Waterville at the Butler Arms Hotel and there is a life - size bronze figure of the star on the main street. It has two world class golf courses and many of the top world golfers have played there over the years. The 'Kerry Way' walking route passes through the Village and this is a major attraction for walking groups. Fishing is also a major attraction both on the coast and on the famous 'Lough Currane' and Inny River. Lough Currane is one of the best sea-trout fisheries in Ireland. There are many sandy beaches to swim, sunbathe and relax and in summer time the water temperatures can be quite pleasant.

There are many restaurants and hotels to dine in also.

Other Activities: Equestrian Centre / Outdoor Pursuits / Trips to 'Skelligs Rock' / Kerry Way.

Golf: Waterville Golf Links

Over 100 years old, Waterville is rated among the top 5 courses in Ireland and the top 20 links courses in the world. Links golf combines sand dunes gorse and native grasses, firm fairways, sod faced bunkers and subtle putting surfaces all intertwined by the ever changing weather.

Links land is a geological rarity. Less than one percent of all the courses in Ireland and the British Isles are championship links. Waterville is one of these. It is no wonder that the world’s best players test their mettle here.

Skellig Bay Golf Course

Situated overlooking the majestic Ballinskelligs Bay and set among natural megalithic stonework and indigenous bog deal, there can be few more visually stunning locations for a golf course than Skellig Bay in Waterville. The course opened for play in Spring 2006 and has already been rated in Irelands “Top 50”.

Here the awesome beauty of the Bay hits you full in the face as you play through holes framed by over 8000 yards of ancient “famine” walls.
