This is a free-standing 2-story home perfectly situated to take in the beauty and recreational opportunities of Kauai's north shore. Living area and half bath are upstairs; bedrooms and 2 full baths downstairs. Master bedroom has connecting bathroom. Honeymooners love the place. Ideal for one couple or a family of four, it has all the amenities you need for an unforgettable vacation. This 2-story home has cathedral ceilings, 30 windows, 2 lanais, and a front porch. With an ocean view from the front door and mountain views from the rear, guests often rave about the villa's postcard setting.
Ease into each day with the songs of tropical birds while enjoying breakfast on a lanai with fabulous mountain views. Look out the front door for a spectacular view of the ocean. Walk 50 feet to the bluff overlook that is well-known for its sunset views--also a perfect vantage point for watching surfers, humpback whales (January-April), sea turtles and dolphins. The luxurious St. Regis Princeville Hotel, a 5-minute walk from the villa, features entertainment, shopping, and fine dining. Walk to 3 beaches or drive to the many gorgeous beaches on the island. The beach at the St. Regis, open to the public, is a short walk down a paved trail and offers excellent snorkeling, kayaking, people-watching and sun bathing. Enjoy sleeping to the sounds of gentle trade winds rustling through tropical palms; enjoy the splendor of glorious sunrises, sunsets, rainbows and waterfalls. Choose from several excellent nearby restaurants, or cook gourmet meals in the well-equipped kitchen. We hope you will be our guest!

Our permanent home is Washington DC but we love escaping to Kauai, especially in the winter. After visiting Kauai several times in the 1980's and falling in love with the north shore, we purchased our house in 1990, 2 years before hurricane Iniki destroyed many homes on Kauai, ours included. By 1995 it was rebuilt as a totally different (and oh so much better) house. It's worth the long trip from DC! We love to snorkel, bike, kayak, walk, and just enjoy a good book while sitting under a palm tree at the beach. You will too!
Kathy Chamberlain purchased this house in 1990
The north shore of Kauai is the most beautiful place in the world. We love Princeville because it is on a bluff overlooking the ocean-- flooding will never be a problem! The Hanalei Bay Villas are perfectly situated for the best ocean, bay and mountain views on the north shore. We bought Hanalei Bay Villa 25 for its views and easy access to beaches. We can kayak, snorkel, swim, bicycle, walk the beaches, or just read books and nap on the beach all very conveniently from our house.
Ours is a stand-alone house, so renters benefit from the privacy of having a house to themselves. It is close (but not TOO close) to the luxurious St Regis Princeville Hotel, just a 5-minute walk. Our house is not on poles like most Hanalei Bay Villas, which means we can walk out the lower lanai into the back yard for easy access to the herb garden and tropical fruit trees. There is whale-watching from the front door (Jan-April), frequent rainbows over the ocean, easy sunset watching from the bluff in front of the house. Guests often comment on how comfortable, well-equipped and nicely decorated our house is.
My boyfriend, parents, and I recently stayed here and it is a GLORIOUS spot. Look out the front door: whales in the ocean! Look out the kitchen window: waterfalls in the mountains! And the lanai has a perfect view of beautiful foliage as well--and if you're lucky, you'll meet Pesky the Cardinal (and his girlfriend, who's not quite as brave as this guy!)
Many details are attended to; the owners' love of this property is apparent. I especially liked the herb garden out back--the mint, chives, dill, and lettuce were put to good use!
Two things that people should know:
--NO air-conditioning. There are fans, but when it's muggy outside, fans blow muggy air around.
--The bedrooms share a wall, which isn't soundproof.
Overall, I loved it. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat!
This was by far the best vacation rental we've ever stayed in, and rental experience was among the easiest. I inquired about several properties in Princeville through vrbo, and received a response about this property within an hour. The price was more than fair, and the place seemed perfect for our needs, so we were off and running. I had looked at the photos and description on the vrbo page (owner's website is better), and it all seemed great, but none of the pictures do it justice. All the personal touches, and the care taken to equip the place perfectly for guests, make this place a great value, and a wonderful home base for exploring the beautiful island of Kauai. We loved that we had a whole house 2-story to ourselves. The washer/dryer, the kitchen equipment (even down to champagne gasses!) , the TV with so many channels, the library of movies, the lanai setup with a beautiful table and chairs, and ahhhh the sound of rain at night. (OK that last one is just part of being on Kauai.) They thought of everything, even including earplugs in case the early morning sounds of chickens crowing in the distance bothered us. They provided a list of their favorite beaches, farmers markets, restaurant and activities, which became our bible. But we also explored on our own of course, and we made use of the Kauai guidebooks at the villa, and guest books which contained recommendations from previous renters abut things to do on Kauai. What a vacation! I hope we can come back, and if we do, we'd love to stay at this house again.
We stayed at This Villa for 2 weeks in September 2014 and thoroughly enjoyed it, as always. This our 5th visit to Kauai, going back 10 years, and we always choose this villa because there is no place like it. The owners are meticulous about cleanliness, upkeep, and make sure guests have everything they need. On this visit we found that the villa had a new roof and exterior paint, plus a beautiful new lanai table and chairs. It was perfect weather for dining al fresco (on the new table), with the final glow of sunset behind the mountains and the string lights providing just the right glow for perfect ambiance. In the morning, a red cardinal would visit the lanai, hoping for a handout. He actually ate out of my hand! The ocean view out the front door is captivating, especially when a rainbow appears or a cruise ship passes in the far distance. The bluff across the street is great for watching sunsets and surfers seeking the perfect wave. We hardly ever ate at restaurants because we like to cook. Wonderful fresh ingredients are locally available, including from the backyard herb garden, and the kitchen is well-equipped for our creative efforts. Kauai farm-raised shrimp—the sweetest we ever tasted-- was our favorite meal, prepared in a variety of ways. We’re definitely coming back.
The house was great with all the essentials...beach equipment, kitchen essentials for cooking in, laundry, and during the storm there were plenty of movies to watch as well as a puzzle. The back patio had gorgeous views of the mountains and just across the street ocean views from the bluffs.
Our favorite beach for swimming was Anini. We felt safe and like we wouldn't be swept out to sea! Tunnels had great snorkeling but parking was difficult and surf a bit rough. Hideaways just below the house was gorgeous! Filled with sea turtles to snorkel with but again, rough waters that kept is from adventuring too far out.
We hiked Waimea cyn to some small falls and swam in a swimming hole, went to Queen's Bath, visited the lighthouse, had Sunday brunch at St. Regis, shopped in Old Koloa town and visited the blow holes in Poipu. A great rainy day activity that we did was the rum tasting at Koloa Rum.
We loved the fish at The Dolphin restaurant in Hanalei, the Mac-nut crusted chicken and mango vinaigrette at Hanalei Gourmet as well as their cocktails, and the coconut shrimp at Shrimp Station. We went twice! And of course the shave ice from multiple places, smoothies from Molo'oa juice bar and fresh fruit from the farmers mkt. We visited 2 farmers mkts and picked up local honey/coffee to bring home.
Thanks again for the great communication before, during and after the trip!
My husband and I stayed here for 6 nights and felt comfortable the minute we came in the door. The view from the kitchen window and the lanai was awesome. Kathy was very helpful with suggestions on things to see and do. This was a very nice home away from home!
We stayed two weeks at this property. This villa is well equipped with everything from snorkel gear to an herb garden. The kitchen had everything you need to cook a meal, save the left overs, chop your fresh fruit with nice knives and an out of this world Kitchen Aid blender for smoothies! Oh, and I left out a view that makes you want to do the dishes so you can look out the window. Bathroom towels, sheets for beds, paper towels, toilet paper, soap, shampoo were all available if you need them. Everything you need for the beach is available for your use. The list goes on and on what is available for your use at this villa.
On the rainy days and evenings we were very comfortable watching the DVDs of movies filmed in Kauai, cable TV, Internet and free phone to call family back home.
There is a binder in the villa with local tips from the owner's that we found extremely helpful. Like, where to buy shrimp!! We enjoyed watching birds in the trees out back, the sunsets just moments away and reading the guide books for snorkeling, bird watching, etc. We even met the author of the Birds of Kauai field guide while hiking the Alakai Swamp Trail. Wouldn't have known him if the field guide wasn't in the villa.
We really enjoyed our stay at this property. The villa exceeded our expectations and they were set pretty high by the website.
