Drimnatorran Farm is a listed building that has recently undergone complete renovation and is set just outside the village centre. As part of the renovation work, Drimnatorran Lodge was built as an extension to the listed main farmhouse building and includes a wood burning stove, with free wood supplied. The village centre, with the shop, hotel bars and restaurants is about 3 /4 mile away on the edge of Loch Sunart. The road from Fort William (25 miles)comes via the local Corran Ferry which has continuous daytime sailings.

About melvyn & sally shaw

We retired from running a business in 2010 and soon decided that we needed the next adventure. Our love of animals and the outdoors has given us a great deal of pleasure and we are developing the farm by introducing more animals. We are keen gardeners and have begun to develop the farm grounds. We particularly enjoy the wildlife that surrounds us here, buzzards nesting and flying over our fields, golden eagles, deer, woodpeckers, pine martens, heron and otters are regular visitors to us.

We have found that Strontian is an ideal location for activity sports in Fort William and Glencoe, Glenfinnan for Harry Potter enthusiasts and close to Acharacle and the beautiful stillness of Loch Shiel.

Strontian is located on the shores of Loch Sunart in the Scottish Highlands, amongst the stunningly beautiful scenery of the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, the most western part of mainland UK.

The Corran Ferry, (12 miles south of Fort William), makes the short trip across Loch Linnhe to the peninsula and the 12 mile journey to Strontian takes you through remote and magnificent Highland scenery to reach Loch Sunart.

We came on holiday to the peninsular in 2010 and enjoyed the breathtaking scenery, fabulous walks and the friendliness of people we met. In 2011, we bought Drimnatorran Farm (run-down listed building and Steading) and have spent the last 2 years renovating the farmhouse and creating a new self-contained extension.

What makes this house unique

Drimnatorran Lodge was built as an extension to the farmhouse and benefits from 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms with large kitchen/dining area and spacious open-plan lounge with wood-burning stove. Guests have an unlimited supply of free wood for the stove. There is full central heating and free WiFi. A stream provides natural water for us. The farm is isolated but within walking distance of the village of Strontian, less than a mile away, with local store, post office/shop, cafe and 3 pub/restaurants.Our farmhouse is set amongst 47 acres and our fields give access to local walks and trails. We are surrounded by fields and trees, close to the River Strontian, with magnificent views to the distant hills and mountains. Our free-range hens and pigs can provide you with fabulous eggs and bacon.

Stayed here for four nights, Amazing place to stay. Luxurious accomodation in an idyllic setting. House has everything you need, except a washing machine. If staying for the week or with young children who possibly bed wet, a washing machine would be ideal. beds are so comfy, The lodge was spotlessly clean. Woodburning fire was fab at night lying curled up with my partner..

Scenery was amazing, as there is a fully equipped kitchen, cooking is not an issue. We ate out most nights and i can highly recommend the food at the Strontian hotel. Food was amazing, portions huge and the staff were very friendly. Village has all you need, hotel, pub, cafe shop. Hope to come back soon and have already passed details on to several friends.

A washing machine and sauna facility for visitors, is planned to be installed when outbuilding renovation is completed later this year. If a family has an urgent need for washing, we have always been willing to help them with a family wash using our facilities at the farmhouse. A great cottage!

We absolutely loved this newly refurbished cottage and its owners. Although the location is a bit remote and the ferry is very expensive (?7.3 per car per trip!), the scenery is beautiful around the area! The rooms are very spacious. The decoration is very tasteful and I just love every aspect of this cottage (except for no washing machine but Sally happily took our washing and even dried them for us!). Very nice and warm. We've already booked a week returning next April!

Sally did mention that they might install a washing machine, which I would look forward to when we return but wouldn't spoil our holiday!

Due to this being our first family visit to the highlands, i didnt know what id expect. It took us 7 hours to reach da farm and we felt in love with the owners and da house. Very clean and spacious even for our group of 8.

Da kids loved our stay der albeit main shopping had to be done in fort william.

There is a gravelled seating area with table for guests to use. A barbecue is available. The rear farm garden is currently being developed but visitors have access to this as well as the extensive grounds that Drimnatorran Farm Lodge is surrounded by. Care must be taken if exploring the grounds near a ruined Listed Steading. Our free-range hens are available to be fed at most times during the day. Utility Room: iron and ironing board, dyson hoover, Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Fresh towels and linen are provided on changeover days. Hair Dryer provided.
