LE CHATAIGNIER

Having stayed in several gites in various areas of France over the past few years, we would certainly recommend Les Grands Arbres as a lovely place to stay. Le Châtaignier was absolutely spotless inside ( and the 2 patios were immaculate too), very well equipped, and very cosy. Irene & Jim are the most welcoming, friendly couple, and even invite the guests into their home for a drink and to meet the other visitors, which is a very nice touch. The gardens & pool area are beautiful and very well maintained. Irene & Jim obviously work hard to keep up their high standards. The nearby town of St Jean D'Angely was lovely and we can recommend the restaurant Le Scorlion. We would certainly stay here again on our next visit to this area.

We had a fantastic 2 week holiday at Les Grandes during August 2011. The gite was perfect; spotlessly clean, well maintained and well equipped with everything you could need plus many extras such as laminated maps of the region and guides of all areas you could possibly want to visit. During our stay we visited many interesting areas such as La Rochelle, Rochefort, Cognac, Ile d' Oleron and of course St Jean d' Angely, all of which were easy to get to. We also made use of the lovely swimming pool on site.

Irene and Jim were excellent hosts. Their attention to detail is second to none and it is clear that they pride themselves in ensuring that Les Grandes Arbres is the perfect holiday location. Nothing was too much effort for them and they were most helpful.

We would have no hesitation in recommending Les Grandes Arbres to family and friends.

My wife, daughter and I stayed at Le ChataIgnier in August and had a wonderful time. The accommodation was excellent for us and very well thought out. Our daughter found the sofa-bed very comfotable and we enjoyed the luxury of two patios. The pool was a real winner and it was lovely to be able to dip in and out as we pleased. Jim and Irene were always so helpful and keen took sure that you enjoyed your holiday. The Sunday evening drink and snacks with the other guests was really good for getting to know the people staying in e other gites.

The area itself is very well places for a holiday. The trip to the coast was about an hour but you could choose to go anywhere from La Rochelle to south of Royan and we found a couple of beautiful beaches. We also enjoyed Jazz in the pouring rain in Cognac, Paleosite, boating in St Sauvinien and St Jean D'Angely itself - quite a sleepy town but with much history and charm.

We were delighted with our choice - Les Grands Arbres is a smashing holiday retreat and we thought wonderful value for money. We hope to return as there was quite a bit we did not have time to do first time round.
