GUESTHOUSE WITH OCEAN ACCESS, 3 KM-VILA FRANCA DO CAMPO

Quinta de Milhafres, titled by the present owners, was named after two couples of black kites (goshawks) that made the property their home. This 11000 m2 ocean front property has been the roots of a noble portuguese family back to the 18th century, and a chicory factory (a coffee substitute) in the mid 19th century.

In 1995, the property was rebuilt and designed as a residence by a German businessman with also the great efforts of his wife whom supposedly travelled the entire island in search of the carved stones that are evident throughout the property.

In 2006, after a period of economic difficulties and neglect, the present owners purchased the sadly abandoned property and rebuilt it to its present condition.

Quinta de Milhafres offers a peaceful country setting just outside Vial Franca do Campo, the first capital of Sao Miguel.

The 3 major beaches in the area offers good swimming and amature surfing conditions. Calhau d`Areia (500 m), Vinha d´Areia (3 km), and Agua d´Alto (5 km).

Viewed in the landscape from the property, a must see and experience is the Islet of Vila Franca do Campo classified as a natural reserve.

Lagoa do Congro (6.5 km) is a tiny lake green-colored by the reflection of the surrounded dense forest.

Lagoa das Nenufares (7 km) is a lake fully covered with water lilies.

Cerrado dos Bezerros (18 km) is a natural reserve with a wide range of flowers and plant species.
