Apartment Les Amethystes is part of a new chalet style development in an area of Les Houches called St Antoine.

Recently renovated this apartment has been furnished and equipped to a high standard. Its location is ideal for a family ski holiday on the slopes of Les Houches or a summer alpine retreat.

The first floor comprises an open-plan kitchen, dining area and lounge, a twin bedroom and a shower room. Two sets of French doors open on to the south facing balcony with beautiful mountain views. The second floor comprises a double bedroom with balcony, twin bedroom and bathroom.

It is situated just off the main street, Avenue des Alpages, close to the new Marche U Supermarket and the bars and restaurants of St Antoine. It is right by the Les Granges bus stop, giving easy and frequent access to all the pistes of the Chamonix Valley.

Chamonix: Chamonix has all the facilities of a town; with a great variety of shops, restaurants and bars, cinema, museums, sports centre, ice-skating, tennis, squash, swimming pools and a very good 18 hole golf course.

There are fabulous walking and running trails all over the valley, some are world famous and every year Chamonix hosts the ultimate 'Ultra Trail' covering over 154km in August. For hikers this trail is known as Le Tour du Mont Blanc (5+ day walking trip).

The climbing is spectacular with the highlight being the annual Climbing World Championships in July. Mountain biking is very popular for both cross-country and down-hilling trails and the golf course in Chamonix is of a very high standard with excellent facilities. During the summer the alpine rivers swell from the mountain snow and the white water activities really come into their own.

Summer in Chamonix: When the snow has melted, Chamonix still has plenty of activities to offer, from mountaineering to white water rafting as well as more general sports and leisure activities such as tennis and squash, horse riding, bowling, swimming and fitness. The car-free centre of town is full of atmosphere and very cosmopolitan, with cobbled streets and squares, beautiful old buildings built around a fast-running glacial river. The atmosphere is lively and bustling with a good variety of shops, bars, restaurants and cafes. For trekking and hiking, the Chamonix valley has the most comprehensive and clearly indicated network of mountain paths in the Haute-Savoie. There are over 350km of marked paths along the valley leading up to the glaciers. Chamonix has a wealth of mountain biking opportunities for all ages and abilities. All the cable car systems run in the summer, giving opportunities for down hilling as well as numerous cross-country trails up and down the valley.

Apres Ski: Chamonix's reputation as one of the liveliest after ski resorts in the Alps is justly deserved. With numerous bars, and even its own micro-brewery, you will find somewhere to cover every taste. Live music kicks off around 4pm in several venues, notably Chambre Neuf, MBC and South Bar, most days in the winter, but there are plenty of quiet and cosy meeting spots for a vin chaud and a chat. As the early evenings pass into night-time, you can carry on partying until 4am or later in several nightclubs around town. On several nights of the year, all night licences mean you are likely to still be out at sunrise, especially during the summer months.

Many bars offer great food menus, but there is a huge selection of excellent restaurants as well, up to the Michelin-starred Albert Premier. Whether traditional French, Savoyarde, Italian, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Korean or just modern cuisine, Chamonix has it all.

Car: recommended

Our recommendation is that you fly to Geneva airport it is only 50 miles to Chamonix and takes little more than an hour. You may choose to hire a car or we can arrange a transfer for you. You may choose to travel by train or public bus from the airport although the journey takes much longer.

The apartment is situated directly opposite the Bellevue cable car you could not be better placed for access to the mountains and where you can take free buses to other lift stations in Chamonix or Argentiere.

As you have underground car parking, it may be worth your while hiring a vehicle for your holiday, giving you freedom to go anywhere and be on the lifts within a matter of minutes after leaving the chalet.

The bus stops outside the Bellevue Cable Car station, just 150 metres away. The bus takes 15 minutes from Les Houches to Chamonix.

Golf: Golf Information:

The golf course in the Chamonix valley has a high standard with excellent facilities. It is situated next to the village of Les Praz. It was built in 1934, originally with 4 holes, it was officially opened on the 20 July 1935 with 9 holes completed. It was only in 1972 the council decided on a further 9 holes. So 10 years later, on the 26 September 1982 it was relaunched with 18 holes. A technical course designed by the prestigious architect Robert Trent Jones Senior, who knew how to make the most of the environment. The course is notable for the its numerous obstacles and raised greens. There is a driving range of 29 bays of which 14 are covered, 2 training greens and 2 bunkers. Ski: Les Houches sits at 1000m above sea level and is the first big alpine settlement you’ll come to in the valley. It is a great family resort offering a wide range of summer outdoor sports and is quickly becoming a haven for mountain bikers. In the winter it is the perfect choice for a family holiday with the ski resort geared towards beginner and intermediate skiing. Les Houches has its own lift system for skiing, hiking and mountain biking. The village is also the starting point for many attempts to climb Mont Blanc.

Les Houches has a different style of skiing to many of the other ski resorts of Chamonix. The wide pistes meander in and out of tree lined rolling hills that make it a perfect location for families or beginner to intermediate skiers and snowboarders. Les Houches’ slopes also provide great powder conditions and better visibility for the white-out days when the rest of Chamonix is in cloud.
