Casa Cardinale, Montefalco boasts a unique location in an area rich in history, art, architecture, award-winning wines, sensational foods, and stunning landscapes across seasons. It is in the very heart of Italy and in a region that is relatively undiscovered.

Casa Cardinale is literally off the main piazza and offers flexible accommodation in two separate self-contained apartments which can be converted into one house. It is available for short and long stays.

Apartmento 'Lucrezia' on the first floor has a double bedroom, ensuite bathroom, living & dining, kitchen with stovetop, microwave oven & dishwasher, laundry, cable TV, DVD & CD player. The large bathroom has an Etruscan cinerary urn as a handbasin. All cookware and crockery is provided and the dining table seats six. 'Lucrezia' was modernised by an artist and previous owner, all the work including friezes being done laboriously by hand. It offers lush but rustic accommodation at a reasonable cost and fabulous location

This delightfully ancient and rustic building has been lovingly restored by artist Neil Moore to reflect its former glory as part of a cardinal’s home. Cosy furnishings, magnificent valley views, cobblestone lanes, proximity to cafes, restaurants, spa, shops and the frescoed church of San Francesco all add to a truly memorable experience of being transported back in time.

Visit the numerous nearby wineries and olive groves, hunt for truffles with local farmers, attend festivities in the piazza or simply unwind in a local spa and sauna. Alternatively, you might explore other historic towns such as Bevagna, Spoleto,

Spello, Perugia and Orvieto with major remnants of their Etruscan, Roman, Medieval and Renaissance past, visit Assisi and its surrounds notable for the life of Saint Francis, or Deruta for its ceramics. No matter how you spend your time, this magical place will undoubtedly entice you to return and discover more of its treasures.

Montefalco is fast becoming renowned as a wine growing district and in particular for its award-winning Sagrantino wines. Wine tastings, cooking classes, truffle hunts, guided tours, shopping expeditions, hiking and bicycle excursions as well as a dedicated driver can be organised by negotiation.

'Federico' on the ground level has its own charm with a large double bedroom with a decorative ancient fireplace and sofa, en suite bathroom, and living area with adjoining kitchenette. There is a cable TV & DVD player and large corner desk. The sofas in the living area can be converted to two beds if required. The kitchenette comprises a sink, small fridge, microwave oven, electric coffee maker, kettle, toaster, crockery & cutlery. It is a very cosy place to be and is decorated in warm colours with prints of the works of well-known medieval and Renaissance artists of Umbria. 'Federico' is ideal for shorter stays or can be rebted as part of the house with access to the kitchen, dining area and laundry upstairs in Apartamento 'Lucrezia'

  • Bookings: A 30% non-refundable deposit is required to secure a booking. The balance of 70% is required by sixty days prior to the start of the rental period.

    Transactions are completed by Paypal or direct credit into our Italian account. International funds transfers and Paypal incur an additional cost of 3% of rentals.

    Cancellation policy: cancellations made 60 or more days prior to arrival – 30% of rental forfeited; 21 to 60 days prior to arrival – 50% of rental forfeited; 0 to 21 days prior to arrival – 100% of rental forfeited. Should the owners be required to cancel a booking, full payment will be refunded.

    Arrival: 2 p.m. onwards. Please contact Cristina Tili (property manager) at least 2 days before your arrival to arrange access.

    Departure: by 10 a.m.
  • Prices include heating, water and electricity. Optional cleaning is available at an additional cost.

Casa Cardinale is tucked away just off the central piazza in the medieval hill town of Montefalco, and offers accommodation in two attractive en-suite apartments which have been beautifully and comfortably restored by past and present owners. Soft details and furnishings have been added in natural fabrics and colours. When you walk in there is a feeling of going back in time over original stone steps, with all the original little details spread throughout the apartments. There is also a large collection of books to go with this which adds to the richness of the experience.

Cobblestone alleys lead from the central piazza into all directions, and offer a multitude of cafes, restaurants, shops and galleries to explore. These lanes lead to beautiful views over the surrounding vineyards and hillsides -the panoramic sunsets are to die for.There are some original places of worship which offer cool tranquilty and a place to reflect.
Casa Cardinale goes a long way to give an experience of the original Italy!
