Sundowner House sits with an unparalleled view of the beautiful light blue sea. You can watch fish swim past from the patio– ideally done at “sundowner” time! The house sits 35 ft. above the sea and 25 yd from it, with beach frontage and safe swimming. Hoopers Bay is one of the most beautiful on the island, and extremely quiet. The house is newly decorated and has three bedrooms, 2 doubles and one with twin beds. There is a mooring in front of the house. All living rooms have fans, air conditioning and a full unobstructed sea view.

Two paths lead from the house, which join up then take you to some steps onto the beautiful beach.

Exuma is one to the best bone fishing areas in the world, and it has some of the clearest and cleanest seas to swim, snorkel or dive in. Facilities are available in George Town to do all these things, and also hiring boats. Brochures have been placed in the house to help you in this matter.

About Jenny Kettel

British, and first bought land on Exuma in 1964. Retired over 25 years, formerly an RAF pilot and airline Captain. My first house on Exuma I had built on Tar Bay.

3 bedroom family beach front property midway between the airport and the capital George Town, a lovely quiet residence on Hoopers Bay with a commanding view due to the 35 ft elevation. Regarded as the best beach on the island with pristine white soft sand, Hoopers Bay is very safe for swimming and snorkeling. Groceries and drinks can be bought less than a mile away. George Town has boat rental and a ferry boat to Stocking Island, Also deep sea fishing and bone fishing can be arranged locally. Sandals Hotel has a golf course. Great Exuma is one of the best bone fishing areas in the world, trips can be organised locally. Our house has its own mooring right outside the property.

Notes

  • Whole property sleeps 6 which costs $1500 per week. If there are 8 of you, then the sofa bed in the lounge will have to be used, which will incur a surcharge of $250 per week or $50 per night.

    On arrival the agent will require a deposit of $250 per week for electricity. Provided you use 400 units or less per week, your deposit will be returned in full; any excess over that figure will be charged at 50 cents per unit and taken out of the deposit.

    Cleaner on departure included in the rates.

    Check in time 1600, check out by 1100 (to allow time for the cleaners before the next guests arrive). Baggage can be left outside these times to be collected later.

Notes: The garage has a washing machine and tumble dryer for use by all. Bedroom 3 has its own kitchenette, with electric 4 ring stove, grill and oven. It also has cutlery and all cooking extras, fridge with freezer, microwave, toaster, iron and ironing board. Also in the bed sit is a bar with 2 stools, and a 2 person love seat. On arrival, the house will have soap, toilet paper, garbage bags, dish washing liquid, detergent and kitchen roll. If you arrive on a Sunday, or after 5.30 pm, order groceries through our contact agent, who will need reimbursement. The main kitchen also has a bar and 2 stools. The main kitchen has a gas stove, the one in bedroom 3 is electric, so if either supply temporarily fails, you can still cook! A path leads down to the sandy beach, which does have steps at the bottom. This is a family home, so there are lots of basic facilities available. There are a some bits of snorkeling equipment and air beds available - but no guarantee it is still there.

We lived on Exuma as teacher and nurse for 7 years from 1980 to 1987, so know the island well. We can say that Sundowner House is on one of the best beaches on the island, and is certainly the best near Georgetown. It is a short trip to the Navy Base, where a variety of genuinely Bahamian food is available, both take out and eat in. We dined on the Sundowner patio, enjoying the stunning view. Cold Kaliks added to the mood.
Ray and Nan were most solicitous of our comfort. The bedsitter was comfortable, well equipped, with that beautiful view. A car rental from Keith Thompson is recommended, as the island deserves a tour, if just to sample the food. Thank you, Ray and Nan.

I loved my stay

I absolutely loved my stay at the sundowner house. My wife and I stayed here for a month with my wife's brother, his wife, and their little girl. We had a blast. We were able to do everything we wanted. The most amazing thing about the sundowner home is the beautiful view of the beach right outside the back porch. I saw the view in the pictures before we arrived and thought they were really pretty but I'll tell you those pictures don't quite capture how majestic the view really is. We spent a lot of our time here snorkeling and enjoying the perfect weather on the beach. The beach feels like it's your own personal beach. It seems like the only footprints I ever saw were my own or my families. It was amazing. We found some really awesome snorkeling spots too. We were fortunate enough to meet the owners of the sundowner home, Ray and Nan. I instantly felt like they were my grandpartents because they were so nice to us. Ray made four trips to the airport for us to pick up and drop off diffent friends and family. We also went baracuda fishing with Ray and caught 11 baracuda. Also there are so many venues close to the home. Downtown georgetown is only a couple miles away. The market to buy food is only a half mile away. If I had it all to do over again I wouldn't hesitate to choose the sundowner house to stay in. During our month here at the sundowner house we saw a mother and baby dolphin swimming in hoopers bay,(that's the bay that the sundowner is on) we went to the chat'n'chill and saw/fed 4 stingrays, snorkeled what seemed like endless reefs, saw a couple sharks, turtles, all kinds off fish, blue holes, caves, and the absolute most amazing ocean water you could ever imagine. I would recommend staying at the sundowner home to anyone inquiring. I loved it.

Sundowner is a 2 bed/2 bath with an attached condo with another bed/bath and kitchen (3 bed/3bath/2kitchen total). They can be separate or open by an interior door. We stayed for a month. Ideal location. It sits on a beautiful bay on one of the nicest beaches on the island. We kept our boat in front on the mooring ball with no trouble. The house is very well cared for by the owners. It is not overly fancy, it's clean and comfortable. All rooms have an ocean view and open onto a deck that looks onto the bay. A car or boat is nice to have while here- but a grocery store is a 10 min walk (half a mile) down the road as well as a hardware store. The house is elevated above the beach which makes for great views but a declined paved walk to the beach. The house is well stocked with things you may need (tools, pots, pans, air mattress...) There is also an outside shower that is a must have after the beach. Overall we are more than pleased with the house. We have seen others on the island we saw online prior to coming and have been very glad we picked sundowner!
