About anthony kelly

Hello, my name is Anthony. I was looking to purchase a real retreat from Dublin about two years ago during 2010. I was initially looking in the west of Ireland but fell in love with the cottage the first time I saw it! A lot of hard work went into the restoration but it was absolutely worth it in the end. Its country semi-rural location really appealed to me and its proximity to Waterford City with its great selection of fine eateries, shops and bars was a real bonus. Living in Dublin its great to be able to jump in the car and be out of the city and at the cottage relaxing in just an hour and a half. I find the cottage a great base a to explore the southern coastline with its beautiful old fishing villages and fine sandy beaches and am still doing so every trip down!

Why anthony kelly chose County Waterford

It was the real character of the property that appealed to me. In particular the 'inglenook' fireplace in the kitchen was a real selling point. Living in Dublin you get a real sense of 'stepping back in time' when you walk into the cottage. The views from the rear on its elevated site are amazing. You can see right across the rolling hills and fields to Co.Wexford on clear and not so clear days! I was buying into a real piece of history with the cottage being built in between 1790 and 1810. The cottage was owned by the neighbouring Walsh family for as far back as Dick can remember. It was I'm sure with regret they had to sell in 2010, but they really loved the transformation the cottage went through and often popped across to check on progress!

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage offers the chance to stay in a real piece of history. You really feel like your getting away from it all. I love that on a night I might fancy a nice meal and a few beers I have the option to just leave the car behind call a taxi and be in Waterford City in 10 minutes or so! Owning a thatched cottage comes with a lot of responsibilities but it really was all worth it in the end. My family and friends love their occassional weekends so the cottage is really never left unused for any lenght of time! I have to 'book in' myself sometimes!

Guestbook comments from the owner

"So many times Mark and I have said we would love to be sitting out in Anthonys garden. You really have chosen well. Dick, your neighbour, across the way is such a nice man. On our last evening he came over and we had a lovely long chat and he gave me a stone (similar to what you used to keep a door open). He said he made it for me! Very nice man indeed. And thank you for the very lovely welcome you gave us. We absolutely loved the area too. I felt so at home there. If you see your neighbour Dick please convey our best wishes to him, his wife and family. Many thanks again" Veronica and Mark - England.

"Thanks for the lovely stay at your cottage. We had a very relaxing time there, and it was much need at the end of our month of travel"

Alethea and Lucy - Canada.

"Thanks very much for a lovely stay in your beautiful cottage, we had a great time" Vicky and Mark - England.
