Date of Stay: August 2008
My wife and I, together with our daughter, son in law and 2 year old grandson, stayed at this property at the end of August 2008. We had a very enjoyable stay and particularly loved the location, right in the down-a-long, olde worlde part of Antibes old town! Very French, very busy and full of character.
The house is located almost at the top of a fairly steep pedestrianised alleyway and it would probably be unsuitable for anyone who has difficulty walking. It does not have any facilities for car parking and there is also no garden, balcony or outside area to relax in. It is very much in an old 'hemmed in' part of the old 'town' .
The house is small, but is spread over three floors. There is a nice small double bedroom and en-suite on the first floor. It has a double bed and adequate drawers and wardrobe. There is a ceiling fan and a.c. which was much appreciated in the hot August nights.
The steep stairs leading upto this bedroom are not very suitable for young children, the elderly or infirm.
The lounge is small but adequate, with satellite TV and cd player, which is nice. There is a small kitchen area with a small round dining table at the front end of the lounge.
The downstairs 'Cave', (or old converted cellar) bedroom has no a.c., and gets too hot and airless in the summer heat. The stairs down are awkward and could be difficult for children or elderly.
The room is spacious however and it has a nice bathroom.
I don't think it would be suitable for fussy or elderly people however! Much better for teenagers!!
Antibes is great for restaurants, and tourist shopping. Juan Le Pins is just down the road and is worth a visit. Cannes is just up the road!!
The local beaches are very good...but very crowded in August!!
The buses are cheap and easy to use.
There is a great water park nearby also....about a 30 minute busride away.
We travelled down by rail and that was a great experience although it did take 11 hours from St. Pancras to Antibes!!
However, don't use the French trains if you are frightened of speed!!! Boy do they go fast!!
If you like St. Ives in Cornwall, you will love Antibes.
Summing up... would I stay there again?
Yes, definately!
(Even though it is quite expensive.)
I would definately recommend it for young adults, or a small family with older children.
But if you want 4/5 star luxury...go elsewhere!!
