La Grande Besage is a stone built pigeonnier tower dating back to the 14th Century. It is located deep within the vineyards of Bergerac and once beyond the iron gates offers total privacy, peace and tranquility. La Grande Besage offers a great escape whilst having all village facilities in Sigoules 4 km away. There is a beautiful private swimming pool 27ft long 12ft wide by with a large patio for al fresco dining. The property comes fully equipped and offers a high standard of furnishing. There is golf and wine tasting on your doorstep during the stay with a 36' wide screen TV and DVD to chill out to in the evening. La Grande Besage offers real comfort and a touch of luxury.

La Grande Besage is 20km south of Bergerac set amongst local vineyards. Bergerac offers low cost flights by either Flybe or Ryanair from Liverpool, Leeds Bradford, Exeter, Birmingham, Stansted, Gatwick, Southampton and Manchester. Bordeaux airport is 1 hour away. A car is essential in this rural area. Bergerac and Ste Foy La Grande are the 2 main market towns. The pretty bastide town of Eymet is also nearby.

General Information: The summer season in the Dordogne offers hundreds of different events from town to town. Bergerac alone has 10 different events ranging from fireworks on the 14 July to long weekends of wine and food festivals. The local restaurants range from 4 course set lunches with wine at 10 Euros to gourmet restaurants situated in Bergerac. Visit the nearby fairytale Chateau de Montbazillac famous for its sweet desert wine or wander around neighbouring Sarlat, one of the largest Medieval towns in the world.

Wine: La Grande Besage is at the heart of the wine growing region. Bordeaux and St Emilion to the west and Bergerac to the north. There are hundreds of wine producing chateaux in the area, many of whom offer free tasting. Wine school is also available in Bergerac; Viticulture - A walk through the vineyards when an explanation of the life of a vine will be given. Vinification - How is wine produced? How is juice extracted from the grapes? How does wine get its colour? How does wine mature? And finally wine tasting To appreciate wine, you must know how to taste correctly.

Golf: Golf information: Chateau les Vigiers is a golf and leisure complex which is only 9km from La Grande Besage. It offers a 18 hole golf course and driving range. The chateau also offers 2 restaurants and a beauty salon. Enjoy lunch at the Brasserie at les Vigiers and a round of golf. This includes a 2 course 'Golfer's Menu' (salad + main course of the day + a drink) Tee off time after 2pm for 70 Euros.

A perfect french retreat

Having probably rented a dozen french homes over the years , this has been our favourite. It is well tucked away, you do need a car, but equally only 20 minutes away from Bergerac airport which is so easy to reach. The house is a delight and while most facilities are on the ground floor , the stairs are steep and twisty up to a fantastic entertainment room and a fully self contained rooftop bedroom and bathroom.
The pool is great, big enough and well maintained as is the other outdoor space. Lots of facilities...can't think of anything that was not there!
All the fixtures and fittings are of a high quality, we could not fault it and the price is good too!!

Get away from it all in a lovely property

Stylishly furnished, well equipped property in beautiful, quiet area overlooking vineyards. Lovely terrace overlooking pool. This place was all we'd hoped for and more! Lots to do and see in the area. Bergerac a must as are the many lovely bastide towns - Issigeac stunning and market at Eymet gives a great taste of local life. We will be back!
