This apartment has been designed to offer flexibility of accommodation, the focus of which is a large private balcony with splendid mountain views. A delightful place to enjoy a BBQ. Bedrooms: one, two or three double bedrooms available all with large fitted wardrobes, ceiling fans, air-conditioning, central heating and luxury bed linen. Each has a TV aerial point.* Bathrooms: one or two available, each beautifully finished with luxury showers, central heating and heated towel rails. Sitting Room: comfortably furnished including TV, video/DVD player, ceiling fans, air-conditioning, central heating. French windows onto large balcony area, with distant views over the small pueblo of Los Tablones and the Contraviesa mountain range. Kitchen: Fully fitted and very well equipped (partly open plan) with large fridge/freezer, dish washer, use of washing machine, electric cooker, hob and microwave.

Nigel and I (Zoe) met in 1998 and realised that we both had a desire to live in the sun. We started looking for our dream place in the year 2000. The minute we discovered this beautiful area of Spain, we knew that this is where we wanted to be. We bought the property in 2003 and spent the next 3 years renovating it to bring it up to date. We wanted to make sure that it was updated to a high level of comfort. We have been pleased with the comments people have given us about how much they have enjoyed the property.

The location and views were what attracted us to the property! We knew that we would be renovating any property that we bought, so our main concern was the views and the location. Just two and a half kilometres from the market town of Origva and with spectacular views of the mountains, we find that everyone who stays here loves it. Some of the best walking areas of Europe are all around. It is so easy to access so many places from here - the beach 30 mins drive and the ski resort of the Sierra Nevada just over an hours drive away. It is so easy to access motorways to visit Granada, the coast, Cordoba and Sevilla. The mountain villages are within easy reach - the property ideally located for most things.

The house is surrounded by olive groves, orange and lemon trees, avacado and pomigranate trees. The water system that the Moors introduced still runs down from the Sierra Nevada mountains to this day, which means the area is unusually green for Spain. We had a blank canvass when we bought this house so after visiting Granada and Morocco many times, we gave it the style that is so right for this area - the last place the Moors lived before returning back to Morocco. You will see some of the features that we have put in, on the website, but you will see many more when you visit the house. We brought many pieces of furniture from Morocco including a fountain which is in the small courtyard.

HEAVEN ON EARTH

What a fabulous place this is, close enough to Orgiva to be conveniant, but far enough away to be quiet and peaceful. A warm welcome from Nigel and Zoe and immaculate accommodation. When we were there in September the swimming pool was a great benefit and clean and warm. There are some delightful 'eateries' close by and some stunning walks. Everything was catered for and we had a fabulous relax in luxurious accommodation offered by a very friendly and warm welcome from the owners. We would definately return as often as we can!!

AN OASIS IN THE DESERT. GRANADA , BEACHES NEAR BY.

After nearly 2 weeks of traveling by car, the arrival at Cortijo El Castano was a very welcome arrival. We were greeted by Zoe who after one look at me offered us a cold drink which I immediately accepted.(Thank you Zoe ! ). The grounds around the buildings are both interesting and beautiful. The orange trees were full ripe and yielded the sweetest navel type fruit I have ever tasted. The yards are prolific in flowering shrubs & vines and palm trees. Our ten year old just loved the pool. From this location it's a relatively short drive to Grenada and the Alhambra. It's also not far from the Mediterranean and the beaches. The apartment was clean and neat and well equipped for those who wish to prepare their own meals. We couldn't have ask for more congenial hosts than Zoe and Nigel. They settled us in and just let us enjoy their precious surroundings.

FANTASTIC RURAL SPANISH RETREAT

What a wonderful haven, nestling in the valley with views of the Sierra Nevada and laden orange lemon and olive trees everywhere. For a real getaway this is just perfect.
Accommodation and gardens perfect and Zoe and Nigel so welcoming.
The apartment opened onto a terrace with unrivalled views and unwinding came easily.
A car is important though the nearest village is walkable with lovely restaurants and cafes. A big thank you and I will be recommending you to my friends.!!!

MEDICINE FOR THE SOUL!

Our 15 year old son said -Thank you Nigel and Zoe for a
fantastically beautiful week here! Your brilliant hospitability and all
the little tips for the best places to go, has made our stay lovely.
From the trip to the Alhambra Palace to our lovely lunch at Ayo's on the
beach -twice! (brilliant paella by the way!). Granada and the Alhambra were
absolutely beautiful and we had a fantastic day there! We were all sad
to leave your villa in paradise and we shall miss this gorgeous area!
Thanks again for making this part of our holiday amazing!

Our 13 year old daughter said - We also saw lots of wildlife which
was fantastic like lizards, butterflies and interesting bugs. The
scenery is fantastic and beautiful. It was a pleasure coming here. xx

Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, a peaceful paradise before hitting the
bustle of the coast. Recommend Almazara for pizza, rabbit paella and
the Churro place across from the bakery for breakfast. So much easier
in some ways to stay at home to eat- Nigel and Zoe attentive to any want, so
generous sharing herbs and garlic it made for fabulous squid on BBQ as
well as seafood paella and Spanish pork. Pool beautifully maintained
thanks to Nigel, and to Zoe for helping us get to Alhambra - felt like
warriors ourselves in the 35 degree heat!! Thank you!

Thank you Nigel and Zoe for a really relaxing holiday with our son ,daughter in law and two small grandsons. The accommodation , care and attention to detail perfect. Also help with the children's routine really made us relax and enjoy the beautiful weather. I will never forget swimming in your pool with the sunlight shining on the lemons in the trees overhead and the happy sounds from the children playing - perfect!.

A VERY SPECIAL PLACE

I highly recommend this property - it was everything it promised to be! The apartment afforded peace and privacy, was beautifully decorated and furnished to a very high standard. A lot of thought has gone into the comfort of guests and their needs.

Cleanliness is obviously of paramount importance to the hosts and the beautiful, almost tropical style gardens, were all kept immaculately. I had not expected quite such lovely views and the garden has very comfy loungers - some in the shade and some in the sun.

The hosts were so helpful and went the extra mile to make our stay what we wanted it to be. We loved exploring the local mountain villages with their interesting shops and heritage and there are plenty of coastal towns not far away.

There is a particularly good bakery in Orgiva amongst a wealth of other shops. There is a very special restaurant too (hosts could advise the name) with the most beautifully presented food in Spain (I am certain!) and plenty of other bars, cafes and restaurants to choose from. That said, the cooking facilities were great, so no need to eat out if you feel like a quiet night in.

A very special place indeed.

Whilst not being a large town Orgiva, capital of the Alpujarras holds a weekly market in the town. There are many tapas bars, restaurants and small supermarkets. There are also 2 health food shops and a herbalist pharmacy. Enjoying many fiestas throughout the year, this is very much a Spanish town.

Lanjaron is a spa town, where the Spanish have enjoyed spa treatments for over 100 years. The minerals found in the different waters are said to be an aid for any number of ailments. Visit the fascinating city of Granada with its spectacular Alhambra Palace, and the old Moorish quarters of the Albaicin. Shop in the town centre or just enjoy the hustle and bustle of the street restaurants and cafés in this ancient student city.

Just 35 mins away are the relaxing beaches of the Costa Tropical. The white villages built by the Moors have a charm and style unique to this area. Spend the day visiting different villages and discovering some of the local crafts, still practiced in the region.
