Our house: This house is our home, the kitchen area and above going back to 1700s, and the front part dating from the 1920s.

We have carried out a considerable amount of work over the last 6 and a half years and the place is a now a comfortable spacious home.

There are many local activities and old towns with Museums etc, including restaurants and swimming poolsat for example, just 10 kms away at Lapalisse and Mayet de Montagne, and a modern swimming complex 15 kms at Bellerive nr Vichy. The old town of Moulins, Souvigny, ( 40 Kms) and the old artisan village of Chatel Montagne ( 8 kms ). The famous PAL complex is at Dompiere sur Besbre ( 30 Kms), The large forest of Troncais near Varrenes sur Allier ( off the N7, 25 Kms) and the famous Volcania with working 3D displays of inside volcanoes etc ( about 75 Kms or 1.2 hrs ) and the Route des Fromages ( Cheese route ) ! Also whilst writing, there are many good canoe areas including Vichy, Nr Moulins etc.

There is a horse trotting course at Vichy with meetings at various times. The nearby town of Cusset has a simming pool available and in Vichy there is a very modern swimming pool complex including a gymnasium and restaurant.

There are two large sailing areas, the Lac D'Allier in Vichy with a long and wide lake area which is part if the Allier river controlled with sluices. There is a lovely restaurant and bar area overlooking the river and the wide expanse of water. In the mountains is the Lake of St Clements where there are canoes, pedaloes etc to rent and sailing on the lake. Near the old market town of Mayet De Montagne.

We currently live in our Dutch Barge built in 1926, situated in Conyer Creek near Faversham in Kent. I was bought up in Yorkshire Northern England, and my wife Sally was bought up in Hertfordshire. We have 2 sons, one lives in Australia, and the other in Beckenham UK. We have 2 grandsons, aged 10 and 6.

We have worked on our barge and intend travelling the waterways of Europe. We have done a lot of work on the house, which was neglected and overgrown, and then we also bought the small cottage next door in 2007, which we are currently working on having had a new roof and timbers fitted, and stripped out the inside.

Michael Inman purchased this house in 2004

We wanted an south facing house with a secure and easy garden, with a workshop, and a south facing terrace. We also wanted to be on the edge of the village, with a tennis court, boule area, and outside table tennis all belonging to the village, next door to our garden. We wanted a village with a shop and restaurant both of which we have and close to the mountains. We also wanted to be near bigger villages or towns for such facilities as swimming pools and supermarkets etc, again we just 10 Km from 2 larger villages.

The property when we bought it had potential, but above all was private, and south facing to catch all the sun. it needed a lot of work, but it had good sized rooms and nice views out of the windows. 98% of the work has been done now and we intend finishing in the next few months, painting the front for example. We have garage for the car and storage and we have converted a large workshop area into a lovely light sitting room with wood burning stove..

We are situated on the edge of a South facing village 390 metres above sea level, in the Bourbonnaise Mountains. The area around us is rural with fields, woods, and streams and in the background the mountains rising to 450 m, with skying in the winter. To the west of us is the spa town of Vichy with its famous thermal spa, and also the old market town of Cusset with its theatre and restaurants. Approximately, 10 kms from us in the mountains is the pretty old village of Chatel Montagne with its famous Romanesque Church, and about the village are many craftsmen, including, potters, artists, a glass blower, basket weaver, to mention just a few. Mayet Montagne is also about 10 kms from us and is a market village with a market each Monday. There are lovely drives into the mountains, travelling east, dropping down into the Loire Valley, near Roanne. To the north is the old Chateau town of Lapalisse, again with an open air market every Thursday.Approximately 50 minutes from us to the South West is the volcanic area of several extinct volcanoes of Puy de Dome, Puy Sancy, etc worthwhile exploring.

Other Activities: Le PAL theme park. Volcanica Old city of Moulins, many restaurants inc a famous 3 star Michelin in Roanne ( where Master Chef went on TV.

Golf: many good Golf courses around Vichy ( 20 Kms )

Ski: Logis de Gare at 1287 metres altitude ( 25 Kms ) with several facilities including ski lifts etc

Also in the Volcanoe area nr Puy Sancy ( 75 Kms ) near Clermont Ferrand.
