Why not visit some of the local fiestas, held in the many villages around the Axarquia region, there are plently of them happening around the summer months, from June right up until September, there is San Juan (the longest day), which takes place in June, thousand of people gather on the many beaches to give thanks and make wishes for the coming year, floating candles out on to the sea from the shore, dipping your feet in the sea and making a wish, or even having a late night swim in the warm evening air, there are fireworks, live bands and plenty of bars to visit to have a meal or tapa, there are stalls to visit, all selling a variety of goods from clothes to food, it's a wonderful sight and many people camp on the beach overnight, having picnics and barbecues, making the most of the longest day. You can find out more about the different areas, different fiestas and the significant meaning to them, by looking them up on the internet, go on to: andalucia.com website.
Although we are situated in the campo, there are many things to see and do in the Axarquia region, most of them are just a 30 minute drive, Velez-Malaga is just 20 mins drive where there are an abundance of shops, bars and restaurants, Caleta is also 20 mins drive, there you can walk along the sea front all the way to Torre del Mar if you wish, in Torre del Mar there are loads of shops, bars and restauruants, and in the evenings, little stalls open up, selling clothes, food, tapas, jewellery, all sorts of things. Also in Caleta is a pretty Marina, where you can hire a boat and enjoy a trip out on the med, food and drink supplied, you can have a swim in the sea and even go in search of dolphins, we can give you details or book a boat trip for you, just ask during your stay here!
Car hire is recommended as we are in the Campo (countryside) there is a local bar/restaurant which can be waled to, but there are no shops within walking distance but everything is a short car ride away. We can taxi you to the shops and bars if you choose not to hire a car, especially if you want a very relaxing holiday just chilling by the pool.
We have 4 dogs, 2 very old, Ali and Pez and 1 4 years old (Jess) and Rosa 2 year old, all very calm, they are all rescue dogs and were all very poorly when we got them, but all are fit and well now though, we love them to bits and hope you will too.

About Lorraine Pendry
We have been visiting this part of Spain for many years, we adore the Axarquia region, we never tire of the wonderful views and stunning scenery, we love telling our guests all about it and guiding them to places of natural beauty and interest, we would love you to join us here for your holiday and guide you the sights too!
Why Lorraine Pendry chose Comares
We were shown a few parcels of land, but none were what we wanted, but then one of our friends who was in property, told us of this plot of land in Las Cuevas, we though we should take a look, well, we fell in love with the lovely views and the size of the plot, we couldn't say no!! Within 6 months the house was built and here we are, 7 years later!!! Moving to Spain was the best thing we ever did, with our family and friends visiting us and we have made some wonderful friends, Spanish and English, what more could we want!
What makes this apartment unique
The wonderful climate, although we do have some really wet winters, overall the weather is wonderful, you know you can rely on the weather in the summer for a BBQ or a pool party! Even in the winter, during the day, if the sun is shining, it's warm, until the evening when the temperature drops, but never as cold as the UK, we love it!
