About Homewood Family

We had been holidaying here with our family since 2004 and decided to have our own villa built (which was completed in 2010), designing it just as we would want, making it a really comfortable spacious and relaxing 'home from home' (except with better weather and views!). We love the local area; there is so much to see and do, everyone is very friendly, making you feel 'at home' the minute you arrive. Even if it's just the two of us, we never feel we are 'rattling around' and love that moment when we return and first put the key back in the door!

Why Homewood Family chose Aldeia dos Pescadores

It is such a pretty area and remarkably still so rural and unspoilt. Even during high season, the beaches are relatively quiet and not at all crowded. Nearby, the old spa market town of Caldas da Rainha is not geared up to tourists and very much the typical local centre, although there are also supermarkets and all the activities at the beach, sailing club, bowling, cinema, karting, historic sites well within very easy reach. We love being able to look out over the valleys, the sea and the castle with hardly an interruption to the view, as well as just wandering about the orchards. It's a real tonic and leaves us all feeling totally relaxed and refreshed.

What makes this villa unique

The villa benefits from Geo-thermal heating and hot water so we have very low running costs all year round. This allows us to offer a very competitive rate for the winter season and offers guests underfloor heating as well as a cosy log fire and double glazing, keeping you comfortable whatever the weather!

15 minutes drive to wide, sandy, unspoilt beaches, Obidos and Foz do Arelho lagoons. Also surfing beaches of Peniche and Baleal, fishing villages of Sao Martinho and Nazare.

Travel:

50 minutes' drive from Lisbon airport, one hour by national express coach from Lisbon Campo Grande station, 2 hours' drive from Oporto airport, 8 hours' drive from Santander/Bilbao and Portsmouth/Plymouth overnight ferry, 7 hours from Poole/Gijon overnight ferry. Car hire essential.

Distances:

Walking distance to local restaurant and shop 'O Tracadinho'. 5 mins drive to Usseira with local shops, bank, churches, well-known restaurants. Obidos with its many restaurants, bars and festivals, Roman town ruins, nearest well-stocked supermarket 'Pingo Doce' (local equivalent of Waitrose!). 15 mins Caldas da Rainha, medieval spa town with traditional fruit, veg & fish markets, supermarkets, nearby karting, sailing school & golf, less than an hour to many historic towns, sites and vineyards.

Clear blue skies most of the year. Winters are mild with daytime temperatures averaging 63°F; 80F in summer, enjoying almost 275 sunshine days a year. Spring and autumn are peaceful; blossom in the spring, soft fruits in May & June with the apples ripening in the orchard in the autumn.

It is very well furnished with a lovely mix of locally produced modern furniture of the highest quality and some traditional. Log fire, double glazing and geo thermal underfloor heating make this cosy whatever the weather. The villa is spacious enough for 8 yet equally ideal for a smaller group who wouldn't be 'rattling around' in it! Cot and high chair available for a small charge on request. Please let us know if you would like a welcome pack on arrival, particularly useful if arriving late/travelling with children! Pack includes milk, bread, butter, water. If you bring a laptop/tablet, subject to change, you may be able to access BBC & ITV channels if you have an HDMI connection and register with www.filmon.com. Airport taxi transfers can be arranged, approx. €100 if you prefer to hire car locally.
