Loved it!!

We had an amazing week at the cottage- the weather was cooler in the beginning of the week- there were waves on the lake and the dock was a bit rocky, and then by the end it was perfect (hot in town, but nice at the property). The kids (ages 6 and 3) loved the house, the lake, the little bridge, the swing. The house is not huge- but great for us. There are a lot of huge houses on the lake that I am sure have gourmet kitchens and hot tubs- but we liked the rustic-ness of this house. In the mornings- my husband and I took turns going for a 2 mile run (down the street, past the little beach area, down the road to the other end and back) every morning. Then we would jump in the lake with the kids. In the evenings we took the canoe out and explored the area.
The kitchen is small, but adequate and well equiped. We brought some of our favorite pans and kitchen tools though. The porch was so nice- we spent a lot of time there, playing games (they have games under the tv that we didn't notice until later in the week). There was wifi! which was great because the AT&T service was terrible/non-existent. There was a washer and dryer (very helpful). The house was clean and well maintained.
As far as nearby activities- we went to Jays in Alton (cute mini-golf, terrible soft serve ice cream); Bailey's Bubble in Wolfboro (awesome ice cream- highly recommend!), Kellerhaus in Weirs Beach (eh. The make your own sundaes weren't that great- was expecting tons of toppings- not so much- and Weirs beach was full of tacky arcades). Can you tell we like ice cream??
We also went and climbed Mt. Major which is across the lake, past Alton. It took us 3 hours- we underestimated the hike with 2 little ones, but they were able to do it. And I had cell reception up there!
Overall, we had a great experience and have already reserved our spot for next summer. It was a very relaxing and low key vacation- which is exactly what I wanted. The kids cannot wait to go back and we were all so sad to leave.
