ESCAPE TO SPACIOUS 3-BEDROOM CAPE ON QUIET CUL DE SAC

Eastham House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 2 baths showers only

The house sits on a slight knoll with a large front yard dominated by shrubbery. The rear of the property is your usual sandy mixture Cape lawn - ideal for playing or simply lying out in the shade of the many locust trees, which also appear to be a sanctuary for birds and other wildlife.

We are within easy reach of Fort Hill, a popular spot for an ocean sunrise and Rock Harbour for its famous sunsets. The bike trail, which meanders through much of the Cape, can be accessed 1,5 km from the house and it will take you right through to Coast Guard Beach and all the way to Marconi Beach or, in the opposite direction, to Orleans, Brewster and Dennis - a pleasurable and safe way of travel.

The house is situated so that alternate roads can be used to avoid the highly traveled Route 6.

rental period: The calendar may read otherwise but the rental periods are normally Saturday to Saturday unless other arrangements have been made. It will be priced accordingly. Check-out time is between 11:00 and 11:30 check in time is 3pm.The check out time is crucial. It's so hard to find reliable people who maintain the highest standards. I'm sorry to say pets will have to have other arrangements made for them .There are various kennels that can make your animals comfortable and are within easy reach. Other guests must and should be considered. .We all love our furry friends and will do everything to make them feel as comfortable as possible.

There is an ash tray on the deck railing for your use outside. I apologize for relegating you to the deck but that's the way it is today. Being an ex-smoker I sympathize with you..

The Cape can be even more charming in late summer and early fall, as most of the tourists have left. This is an ideal time to experience the true wonders of it at your leisure.

For those few who want to take the time to drive down and view the house, we encourage you to do so. Arrangements can be made for you .Just let me know. It s always good to actually see first hand the house you're going to rent.So many people dont'

Growing up,and spending Summer vacations on the Cape made it so natural to purchase the house there. We look forward to opening the house in May and regret the task of closing it in October. We find it surprising that so many families opt for the high season in the summer. The off season gives people a chance to enjoy the tranquility and solitude of an uninterrupted beach stroll and the other autumn.

I grew up near Boston, went to college there, and upon earning my degree I found myself reporting to the Boston Army Base for induction.Yes, America used to draft - not a pleasant time to come of age. Luckily I got orders for Germany when the majority weren't nearly so fortunate .

Little did I know how it would change my life forever. Having been taken in by the country I found myself being drawn back two years later. It was in Heidelberg, the medeival home of Germany's oldest university and the setting for the Student Prince, where I met my wife. The memories of our first few years play out like a fairy tale. A more romantic setting could not be imagined. It would be hard not to be taken in by its old world charm. Even today, many years later, we still think fondly of our earlier days there. When asked by Americans then,' When are you going home?` I'd answer,` Well, I already am` A decision never regretted.

Wanting to keep our ties with Boston we bought Brenda Lane, for it was practical at the time and the perfect house for us. Our plan was to change just about everything over the next fifteen years and we're right on schedule. The only things remaining from the early days are a classic Cape couch from the forties and a dining room set that fits in beautifully. We've presently renewed the upstairs bathroom to make it safer and more spacious. .As it turned out it was the right house then and is even a better house now.

We hope the families driving a 150 miles enjoy our house as much as we do traveling 3500 miles.

Jay&Helga Mahoney purchased this house in 1998

Since it's the dream of every kid from Boston to one day own a home on Cape Cod this came naturally to seek out one there.

This was the third house we looked at and we knew from the get- go it was the one. Sitting up on the knoll with a huge expanse of land twice as much as any other house on the street (only eight), the cathedral ceiling opening up the whole downstairs - it just seemed right.

We love working in the garden in the spring ,whipping everything into shape. It seems with each passing year it takes longer and longer .What used to take three days now takes six, but it still fun.

Helga has been at the house a total of 6 months in the last fifteen years. She'll be able to spend more time there starting June 2014. Not that we would ever come in the high season, We'll leave that to families who cannot come at any other time and who can brave the crowds and everything that goes with it. My only regret about the house is that We didn't buy it fifteen years earlier.

There is much to be said of the Lower Cape.To experience it, it will forever draw you back. It's almost like having all of the wonders of nature to yourself no matter how many others you're sharing it with.

.As far as the house goes there is nothing special or unique about it. It's like thousands of other Cape houses built in the late Eighties, except this one belongs to us. The house and what's in it reflect our taste and our lifestyle and we hope that our visitors will feel as comfortable there as we do.

It's too bad famiies today can't find the time to have the experience of that special day of hunting for their perfect summer house. If I had to choose my favorite childhood memories those would top the list, and I thank my parents who made those summers possible.

Beautiful house, great for families

  • 5 of 5
This is a great place, we have rented many times on the Cape and this is our favorite by far. The location is perfect, you can use back roads to stay off Rte 6 and avoid traffic, very close to the bike path. We biked to Wellfleet, bay side and ocean side beaches, Great Pond and down to Orleans center. We brought our own bikes, but the 2 bikes in the cellar are in great condition and they even thought to leave a lock for you to borrow. (Bring your own helmet.)
The house is perfect for families, there is a shady quiet back yard with a nice deck and outdoor shower. Grandparents who have trouble with stairs appreciated the first floor bedroom and bathroom. Kitchen has everything you need to make meals. The house was spotless and clearly very well cared for. It is priced fairly without extra hidden charges and Jay was very helpful and easy to work with around payments and check-in policy, etc. (If this is your first vacation on the Cape and you are looking at other places be careful, we have had unpleasant experiences in other properties where they hide a lot of extra booking and cleaning fees that you don't know about in the price. Jay just includes everything and returned our security deposit promptly, he was great to work with, he really wants you to have a great vacation without extra hassle.) We will certainly come back! Can't wait for next summer!

Fantastic Choice for a Cape Holiday

  • 5 of 5
This property is completely 5*, the moment we arrived I knew we'd made the right choice. It was very difficult booking a holiday home when we live in Ireland but Jay made it easy from the start, he is the perfect owner. Brenda Lane is so quiet and peaceful and sitting on the deck in the huge back garden was like sitting in our own private Nickerson State Park. The birds singing, bunnies hopping and butterflies made it a tranquil haven.
The house is so well stocked and equipped it puts my own house to shame. I've never had china teapots before in USA so this was a lovely touch. There are five in our family, all six footers (except me) and there was more than enough room around the property, never once did we feel cramped.
The location is so close to the bicycle trail and Orleans that a cycle or walk to the local cafes is a lovely evening pastime. We will be telling all our friends in Ireland about this house and hopefully when we save up our airfare again we'll be back to Brenda Lane.
A perfect holiday in a dream home, you'll not be disappointed if you holiday here.

The ideal place for a family vacation!

  • 5 of 5
Our family of three rented this lovely house for the week of July 4th. My only hesitation in writing this review is that I haven't yet booked for next year (I plan to soon!), and I'd hate to miss out on the same experience in 2015. We had the perfect family vacation. Jay and Helga's home was so warm, welcoming and comfortable - the ideal spot for a relaxing week on the outer cape. The house had everything we needed and more. The availability of two very nice bicycles was a wonderful feature, allowing daily rides to Coastguard Beach for sunsets and a dinner at Arnold's (we needed the bike ride afterwards!). The outdoor shower, well appointed kitchen and grill, spacious deck, and large, private yard provided almost all we needed for a great vacation right at home. The master bedroom and en suite bath were very comfortable. The two bedrooms downstairs were nicely sized and would provide plenty of space for another five or six people, if needed. We had a few chilly nights and the wood burning fireplace left us longing to come back in the fall. Although the house is not right near any one beach, it is an easy bicycle ride to the Cape Cod Rail Trail and the distance to the beaches was perfectly manageable. We purchased a parking pass for the National Seashore beaches and found that option easy and convenient. We had several nice meals out in Orleans and Wellfleet - both of which were easily accessible from the house. The Fort Hill walking trail just up the road was beautiful and provided breathtaking views of the marshland in the area. Jay was the perfect host - even from Germany. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know him from afar, and his care and attention made our stay all the more special. We will certainly return to Brenda Lane. I am already planning our itinerary for next year!

Great location, friendly owner and ample amenities

  • 5 of 5
We made a great choice in staying at this home for our first family trip to Cape Cod. The house, which is well-located in Eastham just over the Orleans line, is on a quiet cul-de-sac. Chances are the only noise you'll here will be what you make yourself.
The furnishings were comfortable--homey without being stuffy. You're staying in someone's home, but at the same time you don't have to feel like you're walking on eggshells. The master bedroom on the top floor was more than adequate for our needs and the updated bathroom got the job done.
Jay and Helga, who I spoke with on the phone and via email are welcoming hosts who take justifiable pride in their home. I appreciated their attention to detail and for offering their home at a fair price without tacking on fees for cleaning, etc.
Bottom line: I'd happily go back and hope to do just that one day in the near future.

Brenda!

Jay and Helga were great. Very welcoming and attentive. House was just as advertised. Conveniently located. Near beaches (on both Ocean and bay sides), Orleans, and the bike path. The owners clearly love their house and help take care of both the residence and the folks who stay in it.

Simple Pleasures

  • 4 of 5
As 2012 draws to a close, the hills of western Massachusetts are covered with snow-- the time of year we begin to turn our thoughts to the other end of the calendar and the other side of the state with its sand covered beaches. Last summer our family of five rented Jay and Helga Mahoney’s cottage because it had the basic amenities we wanted, at a reasonable price, in the general area of Eastham we like. For anyone who doesn’t know, Eastham is home to many of the best ocean side and bayside beaches, including our new favorite bay beach, First Encounter Beach. We ate many meals in and so appreciated the well-supplied kitchen. Not many places have nice paring knives or that small bottle of olive oil you forgot to bring along. The master bedroom was newly and nicely redone with plenty of floor space for a morning stretch before a jog or pedal on the nearby bike path. If you can’t bring your own bike, there are two very nice ones in the basement waiting to be used. After a day of enjoying the simple pleasures of sand, surf, and sun, the cottage, with simple comforts of its own, was easy to come home to—not the least being the outdoor shower with its oversized head—a revelation unto itself.

Jay and Helga are very welcoming and attentive hosts, even from far off Germany. I have rented several different houses on the Cape, but have never before had an introductory phone call from the owners. This personal touch, along with the welcome gift that awaited us when we arrived at Brenda Lane made us feel at home right away.

The town of Eastham is perfectly located on the Lower Cape for you to enjoy both the bayside and National Seashore beaches. Cape Cod is attractive throughout the year because of its uniqueness. However, if you are in search of tranquillity and solitude September and October are ideal months to visit. Whether it 's the cosmopolitan atmosphere of Provincetown, the raw beauty of Truro, the art galleries of Wellfleet, the beach walks of Orleans and Eastham or the exquisite charm of Chatham the Lower Cape is something to be experienced more than once in your lifetime.

Other Activities: bird watching, beach combing

Golf: The area is rich with golfing opportunities and, with the exception of weekends, Tee-Times are easily available. For a unique golf experience we recommend the links course in Truro, the oldest of its kind in the USA.

Those who wish to obtain an Eastham beach pass can save money. Normally, day parking is $15.00. A weekly pass is $60.00. Two weeks is about $90.00. You can check with the Town Hall (508-240 5974). It's certainly worth a call. They send the pass out to you. It can all be done online. As far as the National Seashore goes I think they also start charging on June 28th through Labor Day. That you're going to have to look into. The Eastham beach passes only apply to the bayside beaches.

Those interested enquiries will be asked when would be a good time for me to telephone. This serves a dual purpose : one,it gives you a chance to asked any questions you may have beyond the website. Secondly, it gives us the opportunity to get to know one another on a more personal basis. Everything said, wouldn't you want to know the people renting your house?

We're not one of the many houses that are close to the ocean. However, there are a few advantages: The children have time to get to fever pitch during the ten minute ride, and it's good value. That in itself can buy a lot of fried clams at Arnolds', whale watching in P- Town and rounds of golf and the possiblity of crossing the Sagamore Bridge with a smile on your face.
