Photos and Description of the Eastham vacation house rental
3 bedrooms, 2 baths showers only

The house sits on a slight knoll with a large front yard dominated by shrubbery. The rear of the property is your usual sandy mixture Cape lawn - ideal for playing or simply lying out in the shade of the many locust trees, which also appear to be a sanctuary for birds and other wildlife.

We are within easy reach of Fort Hill, a popular spot for an ocean sunrise and Rock Harbour for its famous sunsets. The bike trail, which meanders through much of the Cape, can be accessed 1,5 km from the house and it will take you right through to Coast Guard Beach and all the way to Marconi Beach or, in the opposite direction, to Orleans, Brewster and Dennis - a pleasurable and safe way of travel.

The house is situated so that alternate roads can be used to avoid the highly traveled Route 6

rental period: The calendar may read otherwise but the rental periods are normally Saturday to Saturday unless other arrangements have been made. It will be priced accordingly. Check-out time is 10am and arrival time is 2pm..

I'm sorry to say pets will have to have other arrangements made for them .There are various kennels that can make your animals comfortable and within reach. Other guests must and should be considered. I wish it weren't

' this way but it is.and we must work together to bring about something that we can all live with.We all love our fury friend and will do everything to make them feel as comfortablle as possible.

The Cape can be even more charming in late Summer and early Fall, for most of the tourists have left. This is an ideal time to experience the true wonders of it all at your leisure.

For those few who want to take the time to drive down and view the house, We encourage you to do so. Arrangements can be made for you ..Just let me know. It's always good to actually see first hand the house you're going to rent.So many people dont' bother to look at from the get go and regret it afterwards.

If you don't want to be May bait don't wait until May to choose a house that no one else wanted .

Lock in that house early and you'll have the one you will be the most happy with.

Choosing a holiday house doesn't have to be a hassle.Just look for good value. It pays off in spades.

About Jay&Helga Mahoney

Growing up spending the summer vacations on the Cape made it so natural to purchase the house there. We look forward to opening the house in May and of course the sad task of shutting it in October. We find it surprising that so many families opt for the high season in the Summer. The off season gives people a chance to enjoy the tranquility and solitude of a uninterrupted beach stroll and to enjoy the non crowds.

I grew up near Boston, went to college there and upon earning my degree found myself reporting to the Boston army base for induction..Yes, America used to draft - not a pleasant time to come of age. Fortuneately, an angel was sitting on my shoulder and I got orders for Germany. Little did I know that it would change my life forever. Having been taken in by the country I found myself being drawn back a few years later. It was in Heidelberg, the city of the student prince,is where I met my wife. The memories of our first few years play out like a fairy tale. A more romantic setting could not be imagined. It would be difficult not to be taken in by its old world charm. Even today many years later we still think fondly of those earlier times. When asked by other Americans ' when are you going home'? I'd answer, 'Well, I already am': A decision never regretted .

Not wanting to sever our ties with Boston we bought Brenda Lane for it was practical at the time and the perfect house for us Our plan was to change just about everything over the next fifteen years and we're right on schedule. The only things remaining from the early days are a classic cape couch from the forties and a dining room set that fits in beautifully. We're presently renewing the upstairs bathroom to make it safer and more spacious. The bathtub is gone to make room for a large walk-in shower. As it turned out it was the right house then and even a better house now.

We hope the families driving a 150 miles to get there enjoy our house as much as we do traveling 3300 miles

Jay&Helga Mahoney purchased this house in 1998
Why Jay&Helga Mahoney chose Eastham

This was the third house we looked at and we knew from the get go it was the one. Sitting up on the knoll with a huge expanse of land twice as much as any other house on the street (only eight),

the cathedral ceiling opening up the whole downstairs - it just seemed right, like meeting the love of your life. You just know they're the one.

We love working in the garden no matter which house we're at, at the time.

Helga has been at the house a total of 6 months in the last fifeen years. She'll be able to spend more time there starting June 2014. Not that we would ever come in the high season. We'll leave that to families who who cannot come at any other time and who can brave the crowds and still have a great time.

What makes this house unique

There is much to be said of the Lower Cape.To experience it. It will forever draw you back. It's almost like having all of the wonders of nature to yourself no matter how many others you're sharing it with.

.As far as the house goes there is nothing special or unique about it. It's like thousands of other Cape houses built in the late Eighties except this one belongs to us. The house and what's in it reflect our taste and our life style and we hope that our visitors will feel as comfortable there as we do.

It's too bad famiies today can't or won't find the time to have the experience of that special day hunting for their Summer house. Back when, house hunting day at the Mahoneys' was a specially designated day. It was like Christmas, no it was better.! ..

To my parents who made those summers just perfect.and the memories that went along with them..I applaud them and am thankful for the gift that they gave me--Cape Cod

The town of Eastham is perfectly located on the Lower Cape for you to enjoy both the bayside and National Seashore beaches. Cape Cod is attractive throughout the year because of its uniqueness. However, if you are in search of tranquillity and solitude September and October are ideal months to visit. Whether it 's the cosmopolitan atmosphere of Provincetown, the raw beauty of Truro, the art galleries of Wellfleet, the beach walks of Orleans and Eastham or the exquisite charm of Chatham the Lower Cape is something to be experienced more than once in your lifetime.

Other Activities: bird watching, beach combing

Golf: The area is rich with golfing opportunities and, with the exception of weekends, Tee-Times are easily available. For a unique golf experience we recommend the links course in Truro, the oldest of its kind in the USA.

Enquirers, please let me know when it's a good time to call . We're six hours ahead. Why the phone call? Wouldn't you like to talk to the people who were renting your house?
  • I'll let other home owners who are better qualified to extol the wonders and beauty of the Lower Cape do that since I could never match their eloquence.
However, for those of you who are not familiar with the Lower Cape an adventure awaits you.
Most vistors tend to vacation on the Cape during the high season due to school age children . For those, who look forward to walks on the beaches, the peace and quiet that the Oceanside offers, and have the luxury of a Fall visit the Lower Cape will not disappoint you. You'll see it through a different set of eyes. You'll even find parking spaces everywhere, even at the beach (for free). If that doesn't get you going nothing will !
I close the house the end of Oct. and ask myself, where are the people? I keep asking myself that on the way to Logan. It's really too bad the people don't come in the Fall, but then again if they did maybe I wouldn't. I certainly would miss the Cape in the fall. I guess to each his own.
  • Beach passes can be obtained beforehand by calling Eastham Parks and Recreation
It's comforting to have your beach pass sorted out prior to arrival.(there is no e-mail address)

We seem to be one of the few homes that is not 'near the ocean'. It's hard to believe so many are! From the house you need a car to get there, which you would need anyway to carry all the gear. There's certainly one advantage to not being on the coast and it's called C-h-e-a-p-e-r-. Anywhere in Eastham you're relatively close to the ocean. No house is further than 3 km from the water. So before booking that Cape house 500 feet from the ocean, think again! Is it really worth the price? You still need to transport all the beach stuff. So after weighing your choices hopefully you'll decide on a house with good value. That way you can spend your savings on fried clams and mini golf at Arnolds' or whale watching and dinner in P-town. Maybe, even crossing the bridge on the homeward journey wearing a smile.

Simple Pleasures

4 of 5
Submitted: January 2, 2013 Stayed: August 2012
As 2012 draws to a close, the hills of western Massachusetts are covered with snow-- the time of year we begin to turn our thoughts to the other end of the calendar and the other side of the state with its sand covered beaches. Last summer our family of five rented Jay and Helga Mahoney’s cottage because it had the basic amenities we wanted, at a reasonable price, in the general area of Eastham we like. For anyone who doesn’t know, Eastham is home to many of the best ocean side and bayside beaches, including our new favorite bay beach, First Encounter Beach. We ate many meals in and so appreciated the well-supplied kitchen. Not many places have nice paring knives or that small bottle of olive oil you forgot to bring along. The master bedroom was newly and nicely redone with plenty of floor space for a morning stretch before a jog or pedal on the nearby bike path. If you can’t bring your own bike, there are two very nice ones in the basement waiting to be used. After a day of enjoying the simple pleasures of sand, surf, and sun, the cottage, with simple comforts of its own, was easy to come home to—not the least being the outdoor shower with its oversized head—a revelation unto itself.

Jay and Helga are very welcoming and attentive hosts, even from far off Germany. I have rented several different houses on the Cape, but have never before had an introductory phone call from the owners. This personal touch, along with the welcome gift that awaited us when we arrived at Brenda Lane made us feel at home right away.

Very nice house and secluded yard

5 of 5
Submitted: November 28, 2012 Stayed: August 2012
My husband and I wanted a house in a quiet location in Eastham with a secluded yard, a deck, and an outdoor shower. This house fit the bill perfectly! We were able to ride our bikes to the bay side beaches and ponds. (We particularly like taking an evening swim in Herring Pond and walking on Campground Beach at sunset.)

The layout of the house is convenient. We liked the high ceilings in the living room and the loft-like master bedroom and bath on the second floor. The house was well-stocked with dishes, pans, paper products and other amenities.

The owner was in regular contact with us and made sure any problems were resolved quickly. (There was a mixup about the departure of the previous people, which meant the cleaning service couldn't get in before we got there.)

We liked the house and location a lot and would definitely rent this house again.

Our thirty-ninth year on the cape, but our first year in your delightful home! We thank you for sharing it with us. We enjoyed the quiet and the privacy as well as the house and the yard. The birds kept us company, which was especially nice, since we are birdwatchers at home too. the most special "treat",however, was the N.Z.images and print: N Z.is our second most favorite place( the cape is the first). we were fortunate enough to spend three weeks there in 1987!It was the trip of our lifetime which will never be forgotten.
Here we had some great family time which is hard to come by in these busy times,so we thank you again, for sharing your warm and wonderful home with us home
We hope you enjoy the rest of the year.
