LISTED COTTAGE IN THE HEART OF SHAFTESBURY'S CONSERVATION AREA

Shaftesbury Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Wonderful for families, friends or couples with a host of original features

Our popular cottage provides a comfortable base to explore the local area. Shaftesbury is renowned for its stunning location. Barbers Cottage provides a central location to stay at. Internal exposed stonework and beams couple with a newly refurbished home.

A large living space has two sofas, TV, DVD, iPod dock, CD player and a gas wood burning stove - cool in the summer and cosy warm in winter months. A large 6-seater dining room with limed, solid oak furniture is adjacent to a fully-equipped kitchen and both lead onto a terrace with garden tables and chairs. Through the gate, steps lead you to the lawn and mature garden.

Upstairs the large master bedroom has a king size bed and ceiling beams (an extra person can be accommodated here). The twin bedroom leads from a large landing - the bathroom is separate from the toilet.

The furniture has been chosen to be as sustainable as possible - FSC wood or vintage. Organic bamboo sheets and towels add to a luxurious stay

What you could do in a week.....: - browse the boutiques, cafes, antique and craft shops

- buy fresh bread and cakes at Indulgence

- have a lunch at the Grosvenor's Greenhouse restaurant, run by a Michelin Star Chef

- walk on the downs and admire the magnificent views

- have a swim

- pick up some delicious goodies at Turnbulls delis

- watch the sun set from the Mitre pub back deck

- walk down (rather than up) Gold Hill, from the Hovis Ads

or visit castles, safaris parks, English houses and gardens, the jurrassic coast, stonehenge, farms or go for a swim

or just relax in our comfortable cottage drinking tea and eating gorgeous cake that can we can have waiting for you by request.

and we have WIFI!

Worth a trip: Shaftesbury boasts lots of independent shops from delis to cake shops to cafes. Try the chutneys at Turrnbulls or the morning croissants at Indulgence the Bakers. The Mitre pub in town has a back deck with views down the Blackmore Vale, a great early evening spot in the summer. There are many walks straight from town which can take you to the heart of the countryside and the Cambourne Chase.

Tea on Arrival?

Let us know in advance and we can have tea and cakes ready for you on arrival. Or the local deli can provide a hamper of food for you (please contact us in advance for details).

Our House / Young Kids?: The garden was created by a keen gardener and there is a top lawn which in spring and summer is bursting in colour and plants. The terrace which can be accessed by the back door or fence windows is a great place to relax or have a BBQ. A gate to the steps and the rest of the garden means toddlers can play without you worrying about them walking up the steps.

Other things for Kids

There are games and books for children to use. The house is equipped with a high chair, cot, blender, microwave and other things that parents with babies and toddlers may need. the local area has hundreds of things for children to do from longleaf Safari Park to Old Castles - it would be difficult to get bored even in the rain.

Guestbook comments from the owner
We left in such a hurry this morning to get to school in Blandford we clean forgot to write in your book! What I'd like to have said is that despite not being on holiday exactly we had a lovely relaxing time in your cosy, comfortable cottage. You'd thought of everything and the beds were exceptionally comfortable which was such a bonus.

Thank you so much. I hope it's a success for you, it certainly deserves to be. In fact had you not been booked this month we would happily have taken it for a further couple of weeks.

AN ABSOLUTE GEM

  • 5 of 5
This is truly a holiday cottage to treasure. Not even sure why I am writing this as we want to keep it all to ourselves! The cottage itself is charming with so much exposed stonework and beams. It has been renovated and fitted out to a truly 5 start standard with nothing left to chance. If you get the good weather we did, the cottage garden is delightful with enough sun for anyone (although you'll have to move round a bit to get it all day!). Parking is a bit of a hassle but there is always room 100 yards down the road and certainly does not detract from the experience. It is also handy for the town centre with its many coffee shops, bakers and fine views. It is also only an hour's drive maximum to most sites in Dorest.

BEAUTIFUL BOUTIQUE-STYLE COTTAGE

  • 5 of 5
A truly gorgeous cottage in a very convenient, central location just a minute from the shops, pubs and restaurants.

Apart from the stylish yet comfortable, welcoming decor, the best thing was that everything we could have needed was already there. So we simply packed our clothes and a pint of milk and that was it!

We felt as though we were a million miles away from our busy London lives, and the entire family completely relaxed. Will definitely be going back...

WONDERFUL WINTER WEEKEND!

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful winter weekend at Barbers Cottage. The cottage itself was beautiful, it was well decorated, spotlessly clean, had everything we could have needed and was cosy. As soon as we arrived we relaxed. We would not hesistate in recommending Barbers Cottage to friends and family and hope to visit again soon with our children who would love the trampoline in the garden!

Shaftesbury was also a delightful town, very pretty, lots of shops and places to eat and of course the famous Gold Hill. We had delicious pies at the cafe overlooking the top of the hill. We also drove into nearby countryside and had a fantastic walk and lunch.

Thank you for making it such a lovely break.

SUPERB COSY COTTAGE

  • 5 of 5
A perfect place to stay, so close to the town centre of beautiful Shaftesbury with great shops and cafes. The cottage had everything we needed, it was lovely, a real home from home (especially comfy bed!). Despite the rather poor weather we enjoyed exploring the beautiful Dorset towns and countryside (Shaftesbury, Sherborne, Blandford Forum and Bridport to name a few) and its not too far to the coast. This is an area we had not stayed in before and will be returning sometime to do a bit more walking in the area.
Many thanks

MIDWEEK BREAK

  • 5 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage. The town of Shaftesbury is a gem, with excellent shops and the thursday market was a treat. The fresh fish stall was very impressive and the cheeses and home made pate from the Deli were superb. What a lovely cottage garden to sit in and enjoy it all.
This is the view of a couple in their sixties who found the central site of the cottage very handy for the town.

RELAXING SPRING BREAK

  • 5 of 5
We took our 2 children (aged 4 and 7) to Barbers Cottage for three nights in late March and would happily have stayed a week. The cottage was immaculate and thoughtfully kitted out with everything you need for a home away from home. Touches like fridge basics, tea and coffee, salt, pepper and oil plus loo roll, tea towels, towels etc meant we didn't need to bring the kitchen sink.. The big double bed was so comfy and the kids enjoyed the twin room overlooking the garden. They were kept amused exploring the garden, leaping on the trampoline and working their way through the cupboard of kids toys. We enjoyed the spring flowers, sipping morning coffee in the sun and relaxing by the fire in the evening.
The area more than kept us busy and the basket of leaflets gave loads of choice. We mooched in pretty Shaftesbury which is literally on the doorstep, tried out Amore the Italian where the kids were made welcome even mid evening (its in a converted chapel - the cottage guide notes have the address) and saved the nearby Indian take away for next time. Loads to do nearby as in the notes and we ventured further afield to Old Wardour Castle (beautiful on a small lake) and the kids enjoyed running up and down the steps in and out of little rooms and down to Lulworth Cove. Nearby Durdle Door offers a lovely walk and views. The Bovington Camp Tank Museum is pretty thorough on the history of the tank (suitable for small boys and tank enthusiasts!)
Thanks - we will be back!
