Photos and Description of the Tavistock vacation chateau / country house rental
Stunning former railway station in the Dartmoor countryside

Overview:

The Old Station offers 3 neighbouring holiday cottages that have been converted from a former railway station. They can be hired together to offer a truly unique holiday experience, in a historic location, surrounded by the countryside of Dartmoor yet with all the facilities of the local town on your doorstep.

Within these three spacious and tastefully furnished houses a stunning mix of high end contemporary and antique furnishings, Victorian architecture and unique art-work feature. With plentiful sofas, comfortable beds, fine linen and fabulous en-suites, you will find relaxation easy. The houses are wired with all the technology today’s traveller expects; broadband connection, flat LCD TVs, DVD players and much more.

The well-equipped self-contained houses appeal to couples, friends, families, groups, independent travelers and train enthusiasts alike! Stay in classically stylish accommodation in a quirky venue. Admire the period features including the original platform canopy with ornate ironwork. Relax in the sumptuous slipper baths. Marvel at the views of Dartmoor from the garden. Whet your appetite at enticing Michelin starred restaurants and organic cafés. Make time for a short drive to the tranquillity of the beaches, plentiful bays and drama of the surf in neighbouring Cornwall.

Interior and Grounds:

Cook up a feast on the family size bbq on the old station platform and take refuge from the summer sun or winter rain under the glazed canopy. Sip on sundowners in the garden whilst admiring the panoramic views of Dartmoor. The station is divided in to three separate cottages making it ideal for larger groups that still require their privacy.

The Porter's Office - Sleeps 4

The Porter's Office holiday cottage has two en-suites. It sleeps up to four people in one double room and one twin-bedded room and is decorated in a fresh modern cottage style. The modern country kitchen breakfast room has a wooden beamed ceiling and natural stone floor, with access onto the private dining space offered by the old platform. The light and airy lounge has a vaulted ceiling and gallery landing which offers stunning views from a dormer window. Complimentary warm coloured furnishings help create a calming and serene lounge.

The downstairs double bedroom was formerly the Ladies Waiting Room and still retains the original fireplace that has been restored. It has a modern wet room en-suite with a cast iron slipper bath while the upstairs double bedroom has a shower en-suite.

The Refreshment Hall - Sleeps 6

The Refreshment Hall holiday cottage has a family bathroom and one en-suite. It sleeps up to six people in three double bedrooms and is decorated in a contemporary French style.

The entrance porch features the original bread oven and the area now serves as a laptop workstation. The period desk and chair set the theme for the rest of the exquisitely designed accommodation. The lounge has vaulted ceilings and a twisting staircase leading to a balustrade landing. Sumptuous furnishings, an imposing French crown chandelier and the original cast iron fireplace provide a room to relax in. The semi open plan contemporary kitchen is located at the front of the house with a door that leads onto the platform and the private dining space.

The double bedroom has period French furnishings such as an armoire and Louis XVI bed, creating stylish splendour. An en-suite bathroom features a slipper bath and low level lighting. A spacious landing and seating area provides an additional space in which to read or just admire the Station’s grounds. The landing leads onto another two French themed double bedrooms and a white contemporary main bathroom, designed to be pampered in.

The Ticketing Hall - Sleeps 4 + 1 Cot

The Ticketing Hall has one family bathroom and a shower room en-suite. It sleeps up to four people, in one double bedroom and one twin room, plus a young child (in a cot) and is decorated in a traditional Victorian style.

The spacious entrance hall is laid with beautiful Victorian tiles. The original panelling and ticket windows remain and now form a wall between the lounge and kitchen diner. The lounge retains the original close boarded vaulted ceiling, a sky light streams sunlight into the room and additional lighting is provided by a chandelier. The original Victorian cast iron fireplace and over mantel takes pride of place. Leather sofas and Victorian furniture help recreate a Victorian feel, reminiscent of the Station’s past. The traditional kitchen/breakfast room has double doors opening onto the platform and the private outdoor area.

A ground floor bathroom offers a decadent cast iron double ended bath, a separate Mira 'Fino' shower, low level lighting and scented candles for the ultimate in relaxation. The two cosy bedrooms on the first floor have vaulted ceilings. The front bedroom has an allocated cot space, for a young child. A cot, highchair and stair gate can be supplied upon request.
