Marcia is just 10 minutes by car from Bayeux. It is surrounded by lush green farmland, and is cosy and warm at any time of the year. It is a comfortable family home, well equipped for our own usage, with pictures, ornaments, and photographs. It is not a normal let. offers. The cottage gives total home-from-home comfort to careful visitors, with sympathy and respect for owners' property. Originally two cottages, it has skilfully been made into one, re-roofed in 1995 under slate, and receives every care and attention. The rooms are all of a good size, and ideal for families or for 2-3 couples wishing to enjoy joint holiday. The garden has furniture, barbecue, and plenty of space for family cricket. There is an orchard of cider apple trees. Owners are on site during warmer months, for any assistance that is requested, but totally discreet otherwise. We are a bilingual couple, able to assist with such things as house purchase, or acquiring longer-term rental in the area.
We are a retired couple who have been living in/visiting Normandy for many years. Jean is a French native having been born in St Lo and we met in Derbyshire in 1988. Jean has a brother and sister in Normandy. Our permanent home is in Derbyshire but we spend probably half of our time near to Bayeux. I am a retired Secondary school Head of Department and Mother to 6 boys, a family which includes 2 sets of twins and I am extremely proud of them. Jean is a widower, a retired University Lecturer, and linguist. Jean has 3 children, all successful business people. We are keen caravanners. I love my gardening, DIY, sewing and when I have time knitting too. Jean is at present learning Spanish, as we enjoy winter holidays in Spain and the Canaries. We look forward to further future travel.
Dawn Petts purchased this cottage in 1991
Jean already knew the area as he was born there. He also has a family home there not far from Port en Bessin, so soon after we met we purchased the cottage. When we purchased, the main bedroom was approached by a ladder and it had one basic bathroom downstairs. My eldest son knocked a hole in the wall upstairs, allowing us to access the main bedroom from the main stairs. We love the area because it is so green and lush. I enjoy it at any time of the year. The cottage is very much a family home and place where my 3 youngest children spent most of their school holiday time. A lot of changes have been made. At present I am working on the downstairs bathroom and next year I hope to start re modernising the kitchen. All our maintenance work is done during winter months, with family/friends.
The cottage is 10 minutes from centre of enormous historical and cultural interest. As well as this the area has wonderful beaches to offer for a really great summer family holiday. No where else can you see the Bayeux tapestry with such ease, explore the history of Bayeux and Caen, wander the streets of Bayeux, sample the many coffee shops and boutiques, or travel to see Mont St Michel, Arromanche, the American cemetery, the other landing beaches, Deauville and Trouville. Just a few examples of how interesting your holiday could be. The cottage is so very home from home and so very comfortable, with every convenience so you may just prefer to do very little. Certainly the garden at the cottage is just wonderful in the summer months. Great space for children. Hi-chair/cot available.
Thank you for a very pleasant stay in Normandy. Everything was spotless and ready for us to enjoy on our arrival.
We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found your cottage was as we had planned … absolutely perfect for the places we planned to visit.
Whichever direction we headed off for our daily visits, we never had to travel more than 45-50 mins to reach one of our chosen WW2 sites.
The convenience of Bayeux, only 10-15 mins drive was excellent. There were different large supermarkets to choose from, as well as other smaller shops.
The Normandie War Museum and Bayeux War Cemetery are on the entry road to Bayeux from the cottage.
My daughters spent many happy hours playing in the gardens on the occasions that we stayed in and relaxed. They loved going out and playing badminton in the open space opposite the kitchen door.
Everyone enjoyed strolls around the Orchard and extensive gardens.
Sitting in the gardens and listening to the mix of wildlife and the feint sound of the bells ringing at the Abbey further along the lane, whilst sipping a cold drink was such a relaxing change from the hustle and bustle of regular life.
As well as thoroughly enjoying our visits to the historic sites we had planned, we were also very taken with Normandy in general and will definitely return in the future to continue this adventure.
Thank you once again and best wishes to you and your guests yet to come.
The Booth Family
Being seasoned travellers to France, over many years, usually in our caravan, we came over for the 70th Anniversary of D-Day. The last time we rented a property, to say that we where disappointed, is putting it mildly, however, ' Marcia ' was absolutely superb. It is a beautiful, family home, warm, welcoming and finished to an extremely high standard. The main bedroom with the inclusive en-suite is fantastic, in fact the whole of the cottage is superb. The location is ideal, set out in a beautiful part of the Normandy countryside, peaceful and relaxing and yet only a ten minute car drive to the City of Bayeux, and for any World War II Military buffs like myself, the central location for the D-Day Beaches and Memorials is perfect.Having met the English owners on our arrival, you could not find a more friendly, helpful couple. It is obviously a family home, and has that " family home " feeling about it. It is a credit to Jean & Dawn, the owners, who have spent hours bring it upto to the standard it is at. I can not praise the cottage high enough, it is infact, as far as our family is concerned, " just perfect " we were sad to leave at the end of our stay.
