Merlindale Holiday Apartment is part of a Victorian Country House set in 16 acres of beautiful parkland by the River Tweed. It has its own entrance and parking space and is very quiet and peaceful in the middle of stunning countryside. It has just been upgraded and refurbished to a very high standard and has been awarded a 5 star classification grade from the Scottish Tourist Board. It sleeps 4 very comfortably and consists of, one double bedroom with king size bed, one twin room, large lounge with log burning stove and dining area, well equipped kitchen with dining area and separate utility room and two bathrooms. The hall is large and has a table tennis table available for use of guests. All linen is provided together with central heating, hot water, logs and toiletries (Molton Brown) and a welcome pack of food containing freshly baked bread, butter, tea, coffee, milk, jams, cereals, free range eggs and Border biscuits.

Reviews.: We have been open since the 2007 season but the guests we have had have ranged from couples to families. The quality of the accommodation has been praised, the location which is just beautiful has been admired, the grounds and privacy have also been acclaimed.

Excellent and cosy place with great hosts

Its a great place to stay in. tucked away in the quite and scenic route to Edinburgh.
We reached there during Christmas time in the peak of the snow period, but the stay was amazing. Denise had taken care of all the details. The cottage is very well maintained.

It is relative close to Edinburgh and most other tourist places.

We would definitely be returning int he summer to experience the sunnier side of Scotland

Just returned from a fantastic stay at Merlindale Holiday Apartment. Great location and facilities to suit both of us and the children.

Everything you could want for was provided. The food welcome pack was greatly appreciated.

Loved everything about the apartment including the log burning fire.

Owner's Response: As the owners of the apartment we are so pleased that our visitors enjoyed their stay. We do try to make sure that the apartment is welcoming and warm, very important for Scotland! We also try to provide a few breakfasts with the welcome pack and a drink and biscuits on arrival. We find that most visitors find plenty to do with all the attractions close by and some just come for a quiet rest in beautiful countryside. Everyone seems to sleep well and all are welcome.

My husband and I had a five night break and had a very peaceful and relaxing break. The accommodation is first class, comfortable and cozy. Very high standard throughout with everything catered for with lots of detail for a very comfortable relaxing stay. It is everything needed for the perfect hoiliday in such beautiful surroundings. We were given a very warm welcome by the owners who gave a very detailed guide of the property. The comprehensive wecolme pack was very welcome and of a very high standard as were all furnishings and decoration. We highly recommend this accommodation.

A perfect spot for s Scottish holiday

We stayed for 4 nights in July 2011 with our 8 month-old son and couldn't recommend Merlindale highly enough. The house is set in a stunning location – quiet, picturesque but with easy access to local towns and attractions. The apartment is spotlessly clean, well-equipped and comfortable with friendly and helpful hosts. The freshly baked home-made bread, cereals, jams, fresh coffee and other groceries were waiting for us on arrival which made the first breakfast much easier. You couldn't ask for anything more really.

I went to Merlindale in June 2009 with my husband. It was so good that we went back in October with our neighbours!
The apartment is very clean, beautifully appointed and spacious. Our table tennis improved. As you can set the table in the hall, you do not have to go outside!
Denise is a lovely hostess. She specialises in those little touches in making a difference from what is a very good apartment to what is an excellent one.
Yes, it is a little remote but I was more than willing to be the designated driver to the local pub/bistro in Broughton.The nearby gardens at Dawyck make a good day out.

Owner's Response: All visitors are welcomed to our holiday apartment, it is suitable for families, couples or two couples and all age groups. The large grounds by the River Tweed are excellent for children to let off steam and for adults who like fishing or walking or who like playing football with their children.(There is a large flat lawn.) The hall of the apartment has a full size table tennis table.
The apartment is situated one mile from the A701 leading to Edinburgh from the M74 so it is very convenient for anyone heading to Scotland by this route.

Wonderful play to stay in lovely area

We have stayed here twice before and have booked a two week holiday for summer 2010.
The apartment is of a very high quality and is very cosy with a lovely living room with great wood burning stove.
Excellent walking area all around - from short strolls to more strenuous hill walking.
Peebles is a lovely town and we would recommend afternoon tea in the Tontine Hotel - an experience not to be missed!
Edinburgh and Glasgow in close proximity and Roman forts alogn Hadrians wall can be visited in a day.
All in all always a relaxing holiday in a wonderful place in a lovely area - regardless of the weather!

Owner's Response: The apartment is situated on the ground floor and has been constructed and planned as a holiday home. The area has been organised and furnished with comfortable sofas around a log burning stove with all the amenities needed to be home from home. In this respect there are dishwasher tablets provided, tissues in the bedrooms, kitchen roll, salt and pepper grinders, Fairy Liquid and Dettol Spray in the Kitchen cupboards,kitchen foil, washing up sponges, tea towels, slippers, specially made soaps and Molton Brown toiletries. There is also a welcome pack of provisions.
In the lounge a large flat screen tv and dvd player is available, as well as games to play, dvds to watch and table tennis in the hall.
A few minutes drive takes you to Dawyck Botanic Garden, Biggar, Stobo Castle Health Spa and Peebles. A half an hour's drive takes you to St.Mary's Loch through scenery you would expect to find in the Highlands, to New Lanark's World Heritage Village, Rosslyn Chapel with its extraordinary carvings and Traquair House, which is still lived in by its original family. Another 10 minutes and you can be in Edinburgh, Melrose or Walter Scot's House.
Or you can park the car and relax in the peace and quiet and read a book by the log burning stove or take a walk from the door. Our aim is to give you the holiday you want.

Merlindale Holiday Apartment is situated in the scenic countryside of the Borders by the banks of the River Tweed. The apartment is part of a traditional Victorian country house in sixteen acres of grounds,it is self-contained with a separate entrance and plenty of parking space. It is ideal for a romantic hideaway for a couple yet can take 4 guests comfortably if required. The surrounding area is quiet and peaceful yet only 40 minutes from Edinburgh by car, giving access to all the capital can offer. The nearest village is 2 miles away and Peebles is about 9 miles, it takes approximately 30 minutes from the M74 at Moffat. There are many attractions in the area to suit all tastes; country houses, gardens, castles, lochs and mountain bike trails. Walking, fishing, cycling can all be done from the door of the apartment. Stobo Castle Health Spa is 3 miles away which operates non-residential beauty days.

Other Activities: Sight- seeing - castles, historic houses, gardens, lochs.

Golf: There are many golf courses close by and the Borders do a special offer which allows you to play at a different course each day. We are also within easy reach of St Andrews for a special day out.

Cycling- we are within easy reach of Glentress for the cycling trails of the Borders.
