About Ianthe Stark

My fiance Ianthe and I live in the UK, about 30 miles from London. We both commute into the city for work; Ianthe as a company director of a recruitment business and myself as a publishing manager for a legal services provider. We met in 1995 when we were both working for our local newspaper and have been a couple for fourteen years. Aside from winter sports, we have a number of other interests that keep us busy when not in Tremblant. Ianthe keeps a number of chickens in our garden and I keep bees. Sadly customs rules do not allow us to import either eggs or honey into Canada, so you'll have to take our word for it that both taste great!

Ianthe and I were looking for a viable alternative to European skiing which we were finding increasingly expensive and impersonal. We jumped at the chance of trying something a lttle bit different when we were offered a couple of cheap flights to Montreal. I had always wanted to visit the city and we learned of a ski resort not more than 90 minutes' drive from the airport; Tremblant. We read the reviews and it seemed perfect. That was in the winter of 2001/2 and since then we have never felt the need to go anywhere else for our vacations winter or summer.

Ianthe Stark purchased this condo in 2006

Why Ianthe Stark chose Mont Tremblant

The resort accommodation can be broken down into four property types; hotel rooms and condos in the pedestrian village, ski in/out condos in the resort location, and properties in the resort region that require a shuttle bus to get to the resort. Accommodation in the pedestrian village is the most convenient for accessing bars and restaurants, however is extremely noisy when the resort is busy - at weekends you go to bed with the last of the revellers and rise with the keenest skiers 'first-tracking' at 7.30am. The ski in/out condo accommodation in the resort is a happy medium. Slopeside access is hugely convenient and you can escape the bustle of the village with a 5-10 minute walk when you're ready to call it a night. The condos in the resort region are similarly relaxing, but one is reliant on shuttle transport, which does compromise things slightly.

Having stayed at the Westin in the village for several years, we knew that the ski-in/out condos delivered the perfect solution for us when we were ready to purchase our own condo.

Of all the condo developments, Le Plateau is the most private and family friendly. You are in the heart of nature and we often see families of caribou feeding on our lawn. Of course nothing beats putting on your ski boots in the comfort of your own porch and walking 50ft to the slopes! A close second is being able to ski back home for lunch, which produces a big saving, particularly if you are feeding a family.

The thing that struck when we first walked through the door of this unit was its sheer space and tranquility. We knew instantly that this was the property for us. Although it's a two-bed unit, the volume of space available is greater than that of many three-bed units. The cathedral ceiling of the living area delivers great drama and you will not believe that you are in a condo.

The main bedroom is on the second floor and distant from the second, so children can play in peace and adults can take a well earned rest.

What makes this condo unique

The condo is a happy medium of the vast choice of accommodation available in the resort and carries no compromises.

Aside from the obvious benefits of the ski-in/out in the winter, Le Plateau has a number of other facilities available exclusively to guests.

Swimming pool and club house. There is a large two-season supervised swimming pool which is served by a spacious club house, that has toilet facilities and a games room. In the winter months, the lake next to the swimming pool becomes a skating rink and there are often impromtu games of ice hockey between guests. Sadly we skate (and ski) like Brits and so do not often take up the challenge of our neighbours.

Walking trails and childrens' play area. Summer guests do not need to leave the tranquil surroundings of Le Plateau at all if they wish. Whilst you relax on the porch and read to the backdrop of the waterfall behind the condo, your children will be safely entertained in the play area, pool or nature walks.

Inside the condo, everything is finished to the high standards that you can expect to find throughout the resort. Home comforts are everywhere; a large and fully appointed kitchen, washer drier, selection of family games, flat screen TV and blu-ray player, large collection of DVDs, large porch with BBQ. Our favourite however is the large fireplace, which is just the thing for sitting in front of with a glass of wine at the end of the day whilst you share the stories of your heroic deeds on the slopes!

We have owned the condo for over six years now and we have never once regretted our decision to make a home in Le Plateau. In fact our only regret is only being able to visit for four weeks each year. Please come and share our experience.

Property was clean and desc. accurate

Property is well maintained and contains everything we needed for our stay. The location was very good and within walking distance to restaurants and attractions at base of Mont Tremblant. The ski in/ski out is very convenient. I would recommend this property to friends or relatives.

Owner's Response: We're delighted you and your family enjoyed your Spring Break with us! The ski-in/ ski-out is so useful for accessing the mountain, popping back for meals and for losing layers when the temperatures rise! The short walk to the resort means that you're away from the noise but close enough to the atmosphere and we're pleased you could make the most of all the entertainment. Have a great Easter!

We are a family of 5 with 3 young adult children. We decided to skip the traditional Christmas and go away for the week. The mountainside condo was perfect. Great size, great location, great amenities. Even a crock pot and fondue pots!! Stay in or go out, ski, hike, or sit by the fire and read, all options available. Our hosts even put up a Christmas tree for the holiday feel. We couldn't be more thrilled with our trip or our choice.

Wonderful Tremblant condo

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful home away for our family to enjoy the many treasures of the Laurentians. The condo is in a perfect location: walking distance from the village and restaurants yet quiet and secluded from other guests. It is well laid out and spacious for our family and we all savoured the evenings sitting on the patio. Excellent service and ease and I would highly recommend it for a family or group of friends.

Owner's Response: We're so pleased that you and your family had such a great holiday! Thank you for sharing your experience. We love having meals and relaxing out on the balcony listening to the waterfall and being surrounded by trees, feeling totally secluded. The village always has lots of great activities and al fresco music at this time of year so our location is perfect; being able to dip in and out of the hustle and bustle of the village and then easily get home for a barbecue - or a snooze - on the balcony. We hope you had a safe journey home.

Excellent slopeside condo, Tremblant beautiful

  • 5 of 5

Wanted to drop a note to say the condo was great last week. Just the right size for our group of 5 (my wife and I and our 3 adult/college kids). Location was great with the ski in ski out although it was tricky the first day to figure out how to get back to the condo! But of course we did and then it was great. Skiing was excellent and we learned quickly to hit the North side and the Edge to avoid the bigger tourist crowds. Learned the tricks from the locals! Tremblant is an excellent ski area and very interesting experience with the village, shops, and restaurants. All in all very good and we will consider it again in the future. May think about warmer weather sometime and checking out the nearby golf courses too.

Family of Four Stayed for A Week in March

  • 4 of 5

The condo was a perfect size for our family of four. Parents got to sleep upstairs and our boys (ages 6 and 9) had a room to themselves downstairs. We even had friends over for dinner who were staying in a hotel in the village and there was plenty of room for everyone to hang out. The condo was warm and cozy though we were bummed that the fire place was out of commission (as we understand was the case throughout Mt Tremblant). It was quiet at night and we would see deer cross the ski run behind the condo.

The kitchen set up was great and had everything we needed. Ianthe recommended a grocery to stop at on the way into town which was wonderful. We loaded up on food there and also bought wine and beer so we were stocked and didn't need to rely on the very small market in the village. We enjoyed using the grill on the deck which was not snowed in.

Unfortunately the dryer was not working when we were there. Once alerted the property manager and he determined it could not be fixed, he picked up a bag of dirty laundry from us each day and returned it cleaned and folded each evening. This was a life saver b/c we packed expecting being able to launder clothes.

The DVD players were not working when we arrived which was a bummer b/c our kids planned to watch movies. My husband fiddled a great deal and the property manager did as well. In the end, he had to bring in a replacement.

A caution on using the shuttle in March to get to the village. While the shuttle came quickly when we called for a pick up in the morning, which was great and only steps from the condo, the shuttle stopped running at 5 pm which left my son and I stuck in the village one evening when we lingered post-skiing. Luckily we were able to reach my husband and he picked us up in our car. We were happy to make the hearty walk to and from the village -- just not in ski boots. Our friends took a taxi from their hotel to the condo so that is another option.

Re ski in/ski out: our younger son (age 6) struggled on the ski out and after that we didn't attempt the ski in with him. Though he is capable of skiing blues, these were very narrow and icy. (He took off his skis and slid down.) From that day on, a grown up went with him on the shuttle.

Our friends enjoyed staying in a hotel in the village and walking out their door to the base of the slopes, but we prefered to have the space of the condo and not have to eat in a restaurant every night.
