SPORTING ACTIVITIES :
TENNIS - private tennis court nearby free of charge for guests to use. GOLF - three excellent golf courses nearby - LE CREUSOT, 18 hole championship standard - CHALON 18 hole, AUTUN, 9 hole. Lots of paths have been created along the canal and former railway lines for keen CYCLISTS, ROLLER BLADERS and WALKERS. En La Marre has details of other cycling and walking routes among the vineyards and hills. WATERSPORTS (sailing school , pedalo, boat, windsurf boards and mountain bike rental) are available on the lake at AUTUN by the golf range; TORCY (Le Creusot) has windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking and rowing, and the LAC DES SETTONS (Morvan Nat. Park) has all watersports, also swimming with beach facilities. FISHING is very popular and available in the many lakes, rivers and canals. Permits are required and weekly ones can be bought in the 'tabacs'. There are two equestrian centres nearby for HORSERIDERS and for a special occasion, BALLOONING over the vineyards is available in Beaune.
CULTURAL ACTIVITIES:
For Culture vultures Burgundy has much to offer, apart from its roman history. AUTUN, CHALON-SUR-SAONE, BEAUNE and DIJON all have theatres and cinemas and many cultural events take place all season. There are numerous art and sculpture exhibitions throughout the region, especially in TOURNUS, CLUNY, BEAUNE and DIJON. For MUSIC lovers there is a wide range of events taking place to suit all tastes, from jazz and blues to folk and classical and the summer months are busy with musical concerts in the surrounding towns and villages. July - COTE CHALONNAISE: open door at private wine growers and co-operatives for tastings of local wines and cheeses;
August - 'LA RONDE COUCHOISE' : weekend of open door at cellars in the Couchois, tasting local wines and produce;
August - NOLAY: 'Du Cep en Verre': weekend festival of wine and folk music;
August - SAULIEU: Charolais Festival - lots of charolais meat and other local produce to sample;
