Idyllic

Review Submitted: June 29, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
I don't usually write reviews, ie Amazon, etc but recently my wife and I met up with my London based daughter for a week in France and did we strike gold.
If you want a clean, well appointed apartment with UK television and a most comfortable bed, tick the box.
If you have kids there are acres of space for them to run around and I mean acres plus a small stream and waterfall to one side of the gites which flows into the little River Maulne at the entrance to the property which I believe you can fish in. Although I wasn't in it there is a decent sized heated pool surrounded by whispering grass which is a real oasis of tranquility about 70 metres from the gites.
I had no inclination to stray from this retreat but had to yield to family requests to "do" a chateau and go to the shops a couple of miles away in the local small town which had all that was required, ie supermarket, baker, butcher.
Having read what I've written I've asked my other half if I've over-egged it and we've agreed that there are possibly as nice gites and a nice a pool but NOT as nice a situation.

Final thoughts -

blue skies and white clouds (although rain one day)

fields of meadow grass and mature trees conjuring up thoughts of John Constable paintings

and last but not least - far from the madding crowd!!
Owner's Response: Thank you for such an informative and positive review, we hope to see you again soon. Corinna and Mark

Millhouse - 27 June 2009

Vic t Derby/UK
Review Submitted: July 5, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We have hust returned from a lovely weeks holiday at the Millhouse. The setting is lovely, quiet, safe and the gardens are beautiful, providing a really peaceful and relaxing ambience.

We had expected to spend much of the week visiting places and eating out, but in fact we spent the majority of our time at Moulin de Maulne as it was so lovely. It is an ideal place for a family holiday or as a couple. We had several BBQs (the local butcher in town has a good selection of meat) and filled our days in the lovely heated pool and playing Badminton, table tennis and going out into the surrounding countryside on bikes and walking. There were also board games and books in the git, but we just didn't get time to use these!

There was plenty of space for three couples in the Millhouse (and my niece who is eight months old). Mark and Corinna were very helpful and provided a high chair, travel cot and baby bath, which were very useful. They were also very happy tp provide information before we arrived and whilst we were there.

We felt very welcome and the standard of accomodation is very high. I would not hesistate to recommend a stay here to friends or family.

The Millhouse at Moulin de Maulne

M and S. Sevenoaks, UK
Review Submitted: June 2, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
The on-site owners, Mark and Corinna, made us feel very welcome to their property and hosted a BBQ on the Sunday, which was a lovely relaxed way to start the week. There was a welcome pack of milk and butter, cheese, ham and some bread and wine waiting in the gite too, which would be very handy for late arrivers.

The house was well maintained, the kitchen small but to the purpose and included a dishwasher - a must for a holiday house, and the beds were fantastic. The large lounge diner had plenty of seating and a TV with DVD player and SKY.

The outside area is peaceful and the flowerbeds were alive with butterflies! The children really enjoyed the pool and as it was heated even the adults went in. The table tennis and badminton sets would be popular with older children.

There were loads of things to do nearby. We chose Villandry, where the children (age 6 and 2) had a fantastic time in the gardens; Chenonceau and Azay le Rideau to satisfy the craving for chateaux; The Mushroom museum near Saumur to fill the rainy afternoon and the Vienne-side town of Chinon to potter and buy some wine. Mark's suggestion to visit the market at Langeais on the Sunday morning was a very good way to stock up on local produce for the week ahead.

All in all, we had a great week at Le Moulin de Maulne and would recommend it to others.
Owner's Response: Thank you for a great review, it was a pleasure to have you here at Moulin de Maulne. Best wishes Corinna and Mark

Lulu's Loire

Lulu is lovely Birmingham
Review Submitted: November 16, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Sue, Alice and Andrew. Our second visit to Moulin de Maulne lived up to expectations; the welcome pack, warm freindly welcome and comfortable beds greeted us on our arrival. Lovely peacful gardens and a great pool enabled us to spend complete days at the Gite without getting bored or feeling crowded by others. While the Gite gives a sense of tranquility and isolation it is within a short drive of all you need in the Loire: Super U, Chateaux and Vinyards.

24th to 31st May 2008

Stuart104 Near Coventry, England
Review Submitted: June 23, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
Had a great holiday. Gîte offered everything we needed - comfy beds with crisp white sheets, plenty of space, UK (Scottish!) TV for the kids & sofas (which French owners often seem to forget to provide). Each Gîte also has its own private outside table and chairs.

Travel time is about 5 hours drive from Calais - mostly Autoroute and very little traffic.

Gîtes were very clean on arrival and a "starter pack" of wine, bread, pate & cheese was provided.

Scottish owners who live on site are very sociable and helpful. They held a communal barbeque on the Sunday night.

Location was fabulous; the owner has a passion for the gardens - loved the pool, barbeque area and space for the kids (all of us) to play badminton and table-tennis outside. There are also several bikes available.

Chateau and town at Azay-Le-Rideau made a good afternoon out - 2 hours with kids, or longer if you want to take in the culture…

Markets at Baugé and Noyant had good cheese, vegetable and meat stalls (not the usual French market fare of African handbags).

Vulcano restaurant at Le Lude was very friendly with good "menu enfants". Food was really good value (€16 each for 2 courses and wine), but don't expect cordon bleu.
Enjoyed a warm welcome at various vineyards whilst wine hunting around Bourgeuil and Chinon.

When it rained it was wet, but when the sun shone, it really really shone - wear your hat!
