What a privilege to stay in such a beautiful, historic house - it really is as grand and impressive as it looks in the pictures. Drinks in the evening sun in the loggia were a special pleasure. We went to visit the Villa Rotonda in Vicenza, which is of course stunning - but La Serenella is very nearly as beautiful on the outside (and a lot nicer on the inside!) The main first floor has a series of grand reception rooms with original painted wooden ceilings (two of which are now the principal bedrooms) and downstairs there is a well-equipped kitchen with a traditional feel. The configuration of beds and bathrooms was a little tricky for our party of 9 adults and one teenager (including the single room only being accessible either through the triple room or through a shared bathroom!) but Giada was very accommodating with our requests to move beds around to make things easier. And anyway, in such a beautiful house we didn't mind the odd compromise. We had not realised from the pictures that the pool is above ground; we would have preferred to be able to sit round the pool at ground level and watch the fun, but it didn't matter too much. We agree restoring the tennis court would be an excellent addition, though in fact two of our party did manage a slightly eccentric knock-up on the court. We didn't get to the dai Butei pizzeria as it is only open in the evenings but it looked nice. We went twice to the Locanda del Nane near the church and very much enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Being within walking distance of the village was a great advantage - yet in the garden of the house you can feel you are in the country with views to the hills and vineyards. But by far the best thing was staying in such architectural splendour - an exceptional and memorable house. Thank you.
We just returned from our fabulous vacation in north Italy and our dreamy stay at La Serenella.
We were a family of ten and occupied all the rooms but still had a feeling of privacy. The first floor rooms are very spacious and luxurious and second floor rooms so comfortable and welcoming.
The grounds are serene and just what you would expect from an historic residence. Sitting on one of the benches or on the veranda with a cup of tea or preferably great local valpolicella is the dream of any romantic an. We could actually imagine the 18th century family living there.
We found all we needed in the local stores for everyday living and even did some shopping in the lovely boutiques nearby.
We all agreed that the jewel in the crown was the lovely Cardini family. We met Giada on our first arrival and though we were late she accepted us warmly. She showed us the surrounding area, and if you ask me, if you just follow her recommendations you are guaranteed a true Italian experience!!
We met Mrs. Cardini and Giada again on our trip to Verona. They both have "inside tips" to shopping and eating and drinking there!! If you can – just follow the and you will have a great vacation.
Our only regret is that we did not have more time.
We hope everyone who stays at La Serenella has a great experience as we did.
We thank the Cardini family for all their help answering all our questions and being so welcoming.
We were in la Serenella from 10th of August uptil 17th of August 2013. La Serenella is a beautiful villa with many original features. La Serenella is located in San Pietro in Cariano which is a very small village, half an hour's drive northwest of Verona. Also Lazise on Lake Garda is less than half an hour drive from La Serenella. We were three adults, three teenagers and a Golden Retriever and enjoyed the large villa with the very well-equipped kitchen including Italian ice making machine. The welcome by Eleonora and Giada was very cordial and we have received a detailed explanation of the villa and the surrounding area. The kids enjoyed the pool, internet access and 47 inch television. We spent two nights at the Arena in Verona and Giada, who adores dogs, took care of our golden retriever with great love. .
We have just returned from an amazing Italian holiday, the second week of which was spent here. What an experience! The photographs did not disappoint, in fact they need more to show it in its full glory. The approach to the villa is not what you would expect, through a private housing area, but the moment you enter through the electric gates and look up the sweeping driveway, you are immediately transported to another time, another place, far from normal life. I couldn't help but imagine all that has gone on throughout the villa's history as so much of its original character and authenticity has been retained. It was truly a week of pinching ourselves to check if we were really living there. We were met by two wonderful ladies with coffee and iced tea under the canopy and a very extensive tour of the villa and the surrounding town, showing us where to shop. Also, excellent advice on places to visit such as an amazing thermal lake set in beautiful grounds and also a beautiful beach/taverna at Punta San Vigilio (both incredible places that will live long in the memory.) The pool is lovely, set in beautiful gardens beside a disused tennis court. (This would be a real asset if it was restored!) The children had great fun in it and it was well maintained. Swimming there early in the morning as the church bells rang, the rooster crowed and the crickets took up their never ending chorus will stay with me for a long time. The 2 main bedrooms are palatial, very comfy beds, and the other 3 are more than adequate with a new shower on the top floor. Only having one stand up shower was a slight drawback for two families sharing but there are shower attachments in the two baths so it was fine. The kitchen retains all of the old charm and quirkiness of days gone by and is beautifully cool to work in but it could do with some slight modernisation in keeping with the old style. Providing coffee pods for the machine would be great as they're only available online. There is an excellent cooker, BBQ, fridge, washing machine and microwave and plenty of cups, glasses and plates. We had a wonderful meal on our last evening cooked for us by a chef and the owner had chosen some beautiful wines for us and a bottle of the local Limoncello to finish with. She could not have been more attentive and helpful and really worked hard to make sure that we had a wonderful stay. The location is fabulous as it is so handy to both Verona and Lake Garda with so much to do and see - a real find!
Stunning, amazing, absolutely fantastic – just some of the words to describe our stay at the La Serenella.
We stayed in the Villa for 5 nights before and after we got married in Torri Del Benaco, Lake Garda, and loved every minute of it, and so did the other 12 people who stayed with us at various points.
From the moment we arrived, Eleonora and her son Costa treated us like family, and produced a feast of cold meats, bread, wine, and huge chunks of the most gorgeous Italian Parmesan cheese.
The looked after us throughout our stay, were always at the other end of the phone if required, and provided us with all kinds of information and help, including booking us into a fantastic restaurant which was off the beaten track, and also arranging the taxi’s to get us there.
Costa also arranged a tour of the Montecariano vineyard, which is only 2 minutes walk from the Villa, and the tour itself, by the two brothers who own it, was an absolute delight. The highlight was the food and wine tasting session at the end, with the best Italian cold meats, cheeses etc… accompanied by the best wine you’ll ever taste – and that’s no lie!
But the highlight of their services was the private chef they arranged to cook our wedding dinner back at the Villa. They sectioned off the main dinning room, and when we were ready for dinner, opened the doors to the room, which looked as good as any 5 star restaurant, and the food, wine and service that followed was quite simply out of this world, and the beef was absolutely amazing.
The Villa itself was stunning and worth the trip alone, and could have been something straight out of ‘The Godfather’! The grounds were equally impressive, and a delight to stroll around, and the inside itself was spotless, full of character, and the chance of staying there is something not to miss.
The Villa is located in a lovely little town with a fantastic pizzeria, and supermarket 5 minutes away in the car. With Verona only a bus ride away, and Lake Garda 20 minutes by car, the location is ideal for all adults, and although a hire car is advisable, not essential if you want a relaxing holiday without too much travelling.
The whole experience was an absolute joy, and the generosity shown will never be forgotten, and we’re already looking forward to the day we return.
VERONA IT'S A MUST:
Verona, the largest city in the region after Venice.
With a rich Roman and Etruscan past, feudal families dominated Verona. In 1263 the Scaligeri family began their 124-year rule of Verona. In 1387 Verona fell to the Visconti of Milan, and a succession of outsiders—Venice (Venezia), France, and Austria—then ruled the city until the Veneto was united with Italy in 1866.
Verona is a vibrant trading center and one of the most prosperous in northern Italy. Its ancient center boasts many magnificent Roman ruins, second only to those of Rome itself, and fine palazzo built of rosso di Verona, the local pink-tinged limestone, by the city’s medieval rules.
As a setting for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Verona is still a magnet for lovers. Aesthetically pleasing, swathed in pale pink stone curling along the banks of the River Adige, streets paved with marble and lined with discreet restaurants and designer shops.

PALLADIO 2008: Five Hundred Years Later:
Five hundred years are an important turning point, especially if they fall on the last quarter of the second millennium, which showed that acceleration of history in which trends and fashions followed one another at increasing speed. To be still en vogue, or better, highly acclaimed, is an achievement only few have reached. Within the restricted elite of intellectuals, Palladio is the only architect: think of the post modern revival, but think most of all of the attention his works arouses in every new generation of designers. And his artistic conception reveals new aspects every time; the latest of which, in this time of environmental problems, the relationship between man and nature, between architecture and territory, thus mixing in modern terms the Renaissance concept of the useful and the pleasant. LA SERENELLA West Wing is an ideal location to start your tours to visit the Palladian Villas in the near Vicenza.
