Near the end of a kilometer-long palm tree lined beachfront dirt road lies Paradise Found. This rustic beach house, less than two hours from the San Jose International Airport, invites you to unwind Costa Rican style.
The two-story three bedroom home is steps away from the deserted sands of the Central Pacific Coast of Esterillos Este. The vibrant jungle estuary borders the backyard.
The downstairs boasts an open floorplan with fully equipped kitchen, eating area, lounge area and half bath. A large wraparound covered porch serves as the perfect place to gather and/or dine alfresco.
The three roomy upper bedrooms, all open onto the upper lanai where guests can slip from their bedroom to relax in a rocking chair or hammock and enjoy spectacular ocean views or be mesmerized by the surf as it rolls along the shore.
The bedrooms include: a queen suite with private bath and hot shower, a queen and full sized suite with private bath and hot shower, and a double bed suite with two double beds.
There is a separate cabina for two with a full-size bed and half bathroom. Special arrangements can be made to additionally rent this ‘owner’s unit’ with the main residence.
There is plenty of room to park your car on the property within the wooden gates for added peace of mind.
Wake up to the sounds of the surf and the calls of colorful birds. Enjoy spectacular sunrise and sunsets right from your front door. Walk the endless beach. Surf, boogie board, fish. Rediscover nature. All of this and more, away from the commercialized tourist stops in Costa Rica.
Reconnect with your family or friends as you eat your meals together inside or outside on the covered porch (you just might be treated to an incredible lightning storm) or just relax with a book by the pool. You may be lucky enough to view families of white faced monkeys leaping high overhead in the backyard. (Peeled bananas are a good enticement.)
After enjoying time in the pool or warm waters of the Pacific Ocean rinse off in one of two outdoor showers; one with an ocean view, the other with jungle views.
On Esterillos Este Beach there are several restaurants within walking distance: from under a mile to a little over a mile stroll along the sand. Both fine and casual dining are available. There are a few small markets in the villages of Esterillos Oeste and Bejuco, about a 10 minute drive. There are larger markets in Parrita, and Jaco located within a 20 minute drive on the paved highway.
Massages, canopy/ziplining, whitewater rafting Manuel Antonio National Park, Mangrove Monkey Tour, Sunset horseback riding, golf, fishing, hiking and more can all be found less than 45 minutes away.

My husband, my three children and I love the beach - from surfing, to relaxing with a good book. We live in the central coast of California and have enjoyed traveling all over the world. One of our favorite places is our simple home on the beach of this lovely stretch of Costa Rican sand!
Mary Carl purchased this house in 2005
We purchased our home on the beach after falling in love with Costa Rica. The weather, the people, the scenery, were all so beautiful...and this location on Este Esterillios felt like we had gone back to a purer, simpler time of life. Our family and friends from Germany to California have enjoyed spending many carefree hours here and we have been happy to share our 'rustic paradise' with people from all over the globe.
If you are looking to step back in time and reconnect with friends, family and nature, this is your place. The beach is generally secluded and we are off the beaten path of frenetic tourists. This is one of the few places you will be lucky enough to enjoy both breathtaking sunrises and stunning sunsets from the same brown sand beach!
We loved Paradise found! It was the perfect Costa Rican getaway house with all the necessary amenities from cookware to beach towels! No air conditioning, but ceiling fans in every room kept the house cool. Nice veranda out front to escape the hot sun and look out at the beach a few yards away. Lovely clean pool was refreshing and a great place to sip cocktails in the evening. Several restaurants close by including Los Pelicanos-our favorite! Short drive to Jaco for grocery stores, bank, gift shops etc. Great house for familiies and or group of friends. Mark, the caretaker and his sweet family live on the premises and are there to answer questions or give advice. We can not wait to go back!
Great place to stay. Pool is clean, lots of lizards hanging around the perimeter and a few friendly ones on our deck. Everything works great considering the harsh salt air. We even had a sloth in our backyard tree and in the next door neighbors tree. The manager's of the Pelican Bar & Restaurant booked us a catamaran sunset cruise with 8 drinks included, full wonderful meal. snorkeling and beautiful sunset all for $80/person. We also rented bikes from the same place. The beach is so beautiful but if you're looking for action, it's not here. You don't see more than 5 people on the beach at one time unless it's the weekend when I believe the locals come to cool off.
Paradise Found is a hidden gem of Costa Rica and I recommend it to anyone looking to go for the non-touristy route. The owners of the house are very good about communication and make sure you are all set to go. Mark, one of the caretakers, provided exceptional service and was ready on call to help us with any difficulties. Around the house is tons of wildlife and in the rainy season the monkeys come down and hangout in the backyard. The pool in the front yard is a real treat to have after a long swim in the warm ocean. Great place for those who love wildlife and the company of friendly creatures. The house is also located in a prime spot if one wants to go to Manuel Antonio for the day or other nearby points of interest. The people who own Hotel Pelicano down the street are very nice people and highly recommend stopping by. Overall, great experience.
Paradise Found was an absolute treat! Apart from a day hiking in the amazing rainforest, we spent the days lounging around, swimming in the pool, birdwatching, walking the endless beach, and just relaxing. A great place for those who like to photograph, from the geckos, brightly colored crabs and shimmering golden beetles, to the intricate seashells and breathtaking sunsets! There were plenty of restaurant options, but we chose to use the ample kitchen to make simple meals of beans, tortillas, and delicious fried plantains. The house was roomy and comfortable. I so didn't want to leave that when our last day came, I decided to stay up ALL night, swinging in the balcony hammock, listening to the sound of the waves, and soaking in the Pura Vida!
We could walk that beach forever! Every day a different experience, but always serene and beautiful. The house is snuggled in a lush setting, literally steps from the beach. The grounds are impeccably maintained and the pool and outdoor showers are a refreshing way to cool off after a warm beach swim or walk. Quaint restaurants are just a 10 -20 minute walk down the beach. The rooms were comfy and colorful, but the outdoor wrap around patio is where we lived when not on the beach or in the pool. The caretaker (and his delightful puppy) was friendly and he even cooked us a delicious meal when asked. This place is a gem!
We stayed at Paradise Found for four nights in early July, 2014. We had originally only planned to stay for three nights, but emailed Mary while we were in Costa Rica to ask if we could come a night early. She responded right away with, "no problem!" This was the perfect place to finish out our Costa Rica vacation. We'd spent five days driving to numerous destinations and participating in numerous activities. We switched gears and moved into relaxation mode at Paradise Found. Esterillos Este is a very, very quiet town. We spent at least two full days doing very little but napping in the hammocks, playing in the pool, and reading books. Paul lives on the property and is very nice and helpful. He also got up early to make sure that the pool was clean and ready to go for us each day (removing the beach crabs that liked to make their way to the pool in the middle of the night). We had a great stay and would recommend Paradise Found for families or other groups looking for a quiet place to kick back and relax.
There are great hikes and nature viewing in the area, including Tres Piscines, Rain, Maker and Manuel Antonio National Park to name a few. Great restaurants are very close, too: The Monterrey Del Mar Hotel (walking distance 1 km), The Alma, The Pelicano, Los Alamondres and Varga!
