Other than the view, this rental has nothing good to offer.We've been renting properties in the Caribbean for quite some time and this rental is definitely our worse one.
The property isn't well maintained or clean. The owner is the rudest person ever and there is no customer service at all. The listing and info provided showed A/C and weekly cleaning which is false.
We were not greeted upon arrival. Jenny, the owner, said she was too busy and she sent some neighbor to pick us up. She said she would drop by in a day or so...
During our first night, we've notice a bad smell near the bed. We realized a day later that there was a DEAD ?RAT laying beside the bed. The day before, my husband had removed another dead rat from the porch. We then called Jenny to let her know (I didn't wanted my 2 year old son to get in contact with any other dead rat), she simply told us to remove it ourselves! After letting her know that we wouldn't touch it, she then arrived and explained it was impossible that her cleaning lady didn't see that! Let me tell that this rat was there for quite a while! There was nothing left but bones and skin! 2 days later, when we got in bed, something touched my leg. It was a cockroach! We found several other ones during our stay. After those 2 episodes, we cleaned the whole house with bleach and treated with insecticide. Also, each time someone used the toilet, there was a bad smell coming from the wastewater tank. We even had to restrain the use of toilet before and during meals. After a week, we opened up the second propane tank to find out it was leaking badly. Thank God we noticed it! The owners came by only 2-3 days after being advised!
2 days before our arrival in Antigua, we were emailed that they overbooked the last 2 days of our stay and they would move us to "a nice nearby hotel". That never happened. During our first conversation with Jenny, she told us it was not her responsibility and we would have to pay and take care of the situation! After emailing Ian, she changed her mind and, only 3 days before we had to move, told us she found another house. After we moved out, we realized that we had forgotten my husband's medicated and expensive shampoo. When Jenny was called, she said in a very rude way that she had no time for this and we were expected to leave things behind for the next guests! I would never recommend this property to anyone. Antigua is just wonderful though. Just avoid this property but mostly it's owner.

The complaint is malicious and without merit. Marlene's main complaint is that she found a "dead rat" by the bed on their first night. Apart from the fact that the property had been booked solid previously and no one noticed such a creature shows it to be questionable at best, but what is NOT questionable, is that Marlene herself emailed my property manager one whole week later on January 28th to say,and i quote,.."everything is fine". No mention whatsoever of any rodent and evidence that this review is malicious and the real motivation is due to an overbooking of two days, for which suitable alternative accommodation was provided, but something that Marlene was not happy about The confusion stemmed from 19 of her 24 emails being headed up with the wrong date, including one containing their flight details ! ALL of these emails are available to clients on request ...
I should like to further add that Marlene was greeted on arrival, indeed she was picked up entirely free of charge from the airport ! Furthermore she mentions the absence of a/c but if she were to read the listing it was only available in the downstairs room, not the upstairs which she booked with a discount of 70 pounds - precisely because only two adults were using the house ! She further omitted to mention that we provided a cot free of charge and that her two year old ruined an entire set of bedsheets with purple market pen ( that she was not charged for) and how she can expect us to send a taxi chasing after her with he husbands medicated shampoo is beyond reasonable expectation !
Finally the personalisation of this review has rather upset me. I can assure you that it is patently a lie that i was rude to these guests at any time ! During the 4 years we have been on HR we have never received a negative feedback and indeed take pride in providing a personal service. We live in the same village and are not absentee landlords !
