I grew up in the Philadelphia area and graduated from Temple University majoring in Architecture. I currently live on Long Beach Island, New Jersey. We currently have 4 rental properties from Florida to New Jersey.
Ed purchased this house in 2006
My daughter graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design with a masters in Architecture. She was the inspiration for the purchase of this house and lived here while attending college.
Paula Deen lived here during the mid 1990's and started here business as the bag lady. Working in her kitchen and sending Bobby and Jamie out on their bikes to serve bag lunches to the local businesses in downtown Savannah.
The Paula Deen house has been the Best Place to stay. The house has everything we needed. We utilized every part of this house with our 7 people and the back yard was a unanimous favorite.
The house is close to everything.
We were surprised by the trolley stopping in front of the house. That made everyone more excited that we were staying here.
On one of our adventures we stumbled across the gift shop for Paula's store and discovered that she was doing a book signing and we were able to meet with Paula and her family!
We shared with them where were staying and they were all excited. Jamie even said he might come over and knock on the door, that he hasn't been there in 20+ years.
We enjoyed the Lady and Sons for dinner the next night. Then Saturday for lunch, we saw Paula and family at Chick Fila.
This has been the "Best Vacation Ever".
Nice home and good location. It worked perfectly for our family. The owner instantly replied to a question we had. It was also well stocked.
First of all, the residential neighborhood was very inviting and comfortable. The house was very inviting from the moment we entered. I came with a grocery list of items we have always had to provide, such as toilet tissue, bathroom spray, sugar, laundry soap, extra towels. Not at this location! Everything has been provided! We were very pleasantly surprised. The house was set up perfectly for when we needed some down time to relax as well. So happy to see televisions in the bedrooms too. We would stay again!
Very, very disappointed. We arrived to find the home in need of cleaning. It did not appear to have been cleaned, other than clean sheets, since the previous party's stay. The house was very dusty and dirty and many minor repairs need to be done. Was very disappointed as we had booked this a year in advance and had watched all of the reviews. Cleanliness was of the utmost importance to me and my party of 6. When I contacted the owner, along with pictures, of the status of the property, he did send the cleaning service supervisor out the next day. They agreed to come the following Monday to clean the property for our Wednesday morning departure. Didn't seem worth it to waste a day with the cleaning service for one more day's stay. I would be very skeptical about renting this property again. However, it was in a good location and a quiet neighborhood.
6 females stayed here for a low key bachelorette weekend trip. We had a great time! The location is convenient to downtown and grocery stores. We drove to the beach every morning without a problem. The house is simple but functional. The backyard is fantastic! We did see a few bugs- might just be that time of year.
The Paula Deen House is fantastic!! 6 adults had a great stay in Savannah and are already planning a followup trip. The house was clean, comfortable and inviting. Being close to the downtown area was fine for us because our reason for choosing Savannah was the sightseeing venues. I recommend the property to anyone visiting Savannah.
Located within 7 minutes of the Historic District and River Street and a short drive to Tybee Island the house is is in a quiet neighborhood with free parking for 4 cars.
