Only minutes' walk from the beach, Old Nice, and the main train station, located in the heart of Nice's prestigious Musicians' Quarter, this one-bedroom studio is an oasis of calm, overlooking gardens with tall palms, and orange and lemon trees. On the third floor of Palais Sylvia, a beautiful art-deco building on Rue Giuglia with spacious, elegant corridors and served by an elevator, the apartment itself has elegant parquet flooring and is furnished and equipped to a very high standard. The bedroom/living room contains a very comfortable double bed, plus another large sofa. To entertain you there is a large flat-screen Sony TV plus many DVDs, a hi-fi for CDs or FM radio and many books in case you just want to curl up with a book. The separate eat-in kitchen is spacious, with a balcony, and is fully equipped including a washer/dryer and microwave. In the brilliant white bathroom with a pastel motif, you canshower or luxuriate in the bath and soak away the day's fatigue.

Besides the corner shop, Casino supermarket, launderette and bakery are all on Blvd. Gambetta, two minutes' walk away. Also try “Huit à Huit” (open from 8-8) on Rue Verdi. Trains: Nice's main station, the Gare Nice Ville is just a five-minute walk away. Trains to Monaco, Cannes, St. Tropez, Italy run every 30 minutes or so Beach: Depending on your pace, it will take 8 to 10 minutes to walk to the Promenade des Anglais and the beach. Just walk up Rue Giuglia which changes its name to Rue de Cronstadt after you cross Bvd. Victor Hugo and just keep going until you get to the Promenade. To reach the pedestrian zone (Zone Pietones) with its multitude of restaurants, turn left on Rue Rossini and when it ends, turn right to cross Bvd. Victor Hugo and carry straight on. It's about an eight minute walk. This also brings you to the edge of Old Nice which has enchanting, winding streets, its shops selling art, crafts and boutique fashions and also the great antiques (Mondays) and flower markets.

When you want to listen to news or music, there is the space-age Philips hi-fi on which you can get the English-language ex-pat FM radio or play your favourite CDs. Or if you wish to read, there is a beautiful hand-made Chinese bookshelf stocked with the latest thrillers etc. And to make sure that you enjoy all this in maximum comfort, one flick of the remote control will produce an air-conditioned environment.
