Visiting vineyards, Chateaux and Wine tasting.:
Sanguinet is about 90 mins drive from the Medoc and one hour from the St Emilion/Bordeaux Superior wine producing areas. These are well worth a visit - almost every village name conjures up images of a wine bottle!! St Emilion is a very pretty hilltop village, well worth a visit, as is nearby St Macaire.
Elegant historic Bordeaux is now pedestrian free in the centre and it has also been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Le miroir on the river front reflects the magnificent buildings on the quayside. A shallow pool of water, it is possible to walk across it - and sometimes the water changes to a knee high mist. A great novelty for children of all ages.
You can taste and buy wine direct from the wine producers at the local markets during the main season.
Sports/Tuition and Hiring facilities in Sanguinet:
The local tennis club welcomes visitors throughout the year.
Cycles of all descriptions and sizes, including special tagalong bikes can be hired in the village.
At the lakeside, tuition and hire services at reasonable rates are available for windsurfing and sailing - on a daily or weekly basis.
Pedaloes can be hired, together with small canoes and other boats at the Plage Broustaricq.
Motorboat hire is available. If you wish to bring your own sailing/motor boat, a permit to use the lake must be purchased at the Mairie. You will be asked to provide an International boat driving permit if your engine is more than 9.9hp. This will also be required if you are hiring a motorboat with a more powerful engine. The lake is policed regularly, so using the lake without a permit or a valid licence is NOT advised!
A favourite holiday destination with the French:
This area will appeal to all ages, whether you are searching for lots of activity or just want to laze in the sunshine. An ideal location with the ocean beaches and the sun warmed freshwater lake just 15 mins apart. Surf, body board, fish, sail, wind surf, kite surf, water ski - every conceivable type of water activity is on the doorstep. Visit the other surfing beaches at Mimizan Plage, Hossegor etc. Cycle on the special tracks or ride through the pine scented forests, bird watch at Le Teich, taste oysters in Arcachon, and the wine in St Emilion and the Medoc. Sample the shopping and architecture in historic Bordeaux (magnificent when floodlit) or San Sebastien, just over the border in Spain. Picturesque St Jean de Luz has Hemingway associations, whilst pretty St Jean Pied du Port is on the pilgrimage route to St Jacques de Compostella. Spend a day in elegant Biarritz with reminders of the 1930s jet set. Nearest airports are Bordeaux (1hr) Biarritz (1.5hrs) and Bergerac (2.5hrs)
